Is everyone’s favorite Heroes villain (and future good guy?) really in negotiations to play Spock in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek 11 movie? That was the report last year, when Zachary mentioned his enthusiasm to pursue the role to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. Says Quinto about the search for Spock: “I missed the Superman Returns boat … so I’m angling for Star Trek. People are constantly telling me I bear some resemblance to Leonard Nimoy.” Um, okay. So not exactly anything approaching concrete, just an actor saying they’d like to do this or that role. Actors do that all the time.
CHUD, meanwhile, seems to think Quinto already has the role, or maybe they’re just goofing around when they said this:
If I were J.J. Abrams, right before introducing Zachary Quinto as The New Spock* to the hemorrhoidal Hall H masses at Comic Con, I’d let slip the title of 1-18-08 aka Cloverfield aka Die, Handheld, Die, because, while the mystery surrounding the project is kind of fun, the sheer inscrutability of everything surrounding it is eventually going to drive the geek faithful mad.
The fact that they just sort of threw out Quinto’s name willy nilly sort of makes me think they’re goofing around, using that Pittsburgh Post Gazette article as their “source”.
In any case, this Quinto as Spock news comes to you courtesy of Cinematical, which has dug deep into this rumor.
Whatever the truth is, we’ll know for sure this July, when J.J. Abrams shows up at Comic Con in San Diego to announce the OFFICIAL cast list for Star Trek 11. It would certainly make Heroes fans’ day if Zachary Quinto was on that list.
