Default how many heroes are there?

we all know the seven main characters with superpowers, but I read on HeroesUnite that there's also another hero who can emit radiation from his/her fingertips. there's a painting made by Tim Sale that shows the person's power here

can anyone confirm that there is indeed another hero?

From what I gather there will most definitely be more heroes than just "our" heroes. Probably some of them will become villains, too. I get the feeling they're going the "mutant" route -- people born with superpowers. so it makes sense there would be a lot of them out there, some good, some bad, etc.

Good point about the mutant angle Sam. I agree. From what I've read this seems to be where they're going so there will be superpowered villains and whatnot.

I've been a Marvel Comics fan for way too many years to admit to. I find it interesting that you suggest that the Heroes producers are going the mutant route. Other than the fact that they are not going to form a team like the X-Men, does it seem to you that the mutant route that they pursue will be very different from the Marvel philosophy?

There's so many different angles the writers can explore with this particular plot line. I'm really excited to see which way they go!

Thus far (and having watched all three of the preview clips provided by NBC), I have just two guesses as to the progression of the series.

If the heroes (both "our" heroes and any other similarly gifted people we might encounter) do have inborn genetic mutations which are the cause of their superpowers, a la X-Men, one obvious route is for the solar eclipse to have "awakened" these powers within them simultaneously instead of merely having them naturally awaken in adolescence, as was usual in the X-Men series. This would presumably borrow a page from Bruce Banner's gamma radiation. I think that the strong presence of the solar eclipse in the preview clips (especially the fact that the single mother looks at it through her child's toy) speaks to this and reinforces this theory.

My other guess is far more "out there" and has to do, in part, with a picture posted somewhere on these forums. I believe someone mentioned a possible person who could shoot radiation from his fingertips? The corresponding picture was a drawing of a hand gripping a beaker of some substance that was fizzing and bubbling, presumably through the use of such a power. I wonder if that might correspond to a clip I saw in which a man was lying on the ground, having cut off his hand? Again, this is a wild guess which probably has little merit, but I wonder if it's possible that that man did indeed have that superpower, and was unable to control it, thus damaging things around him--sort of like the "Midas touch" which could not be relaxed or negated. He might have had to cut off his hand to stop it...then again, that could be totally incorrect, and the mere splash of red in the background of the picture could have had me linking the two phenomena. It would be cool if they did it, though.

One question, too...in the previews on TV, the Japanese man does not stop time, but teleports. This is supposed to be the realm of the man who was in prison. Is this a mistake, something that was changed after the fact, or a point of real use in the story?

All of these things relate to plot points that are revealed in the pilot, so I don't want to go into detail, but I think it's safe to say that we don't have all the information right now.

I have always been under the impression that the prisoner was able to walk through walls. Whether the Japanese man is able to teleport himself in addition to controlling time or instead of, I don't really know.

Wow I never even considered the whole eclipse thing. I thought that was just a visual gag in the previews! Curious, curious...

I agree with you on that. Whether it "awakens" the powers or maybe causes them somehow, it looks like it'll be a major plot point. At first I was thinking like Night of the Comet, where something alien "changes" people, but I've also thought it could be the writers are using the sun's corona as the means of "awakening" our Heroes' powers.

I like this idea! It'll be interesting to see what kind of "good" powers and "bad" powers they come up with.

But are we sure he teleports? The impression I got was that he could stop time or slow it so much that he would seem to teleport, showing up somewhere out of nowhere. But that's just my impression, again.

This will indeed be a tough start for Heroes with the likes of X-Men and Smallville; it will definitely have to prove itself.
