History: Marcus grew up in the bay area of California, the son of David Thorne and Alyssa Balisong. When he was 11, his mother and father divorced over a long-time extramarital affair on his father's part. He never really forgave his father for it and he turned inward. His mother and he moved east. He was a voracious reader in high school, and a straight-A student; perhaps stereotypically, he was not all that popular. He was accepted into Princeton and was going down the pre-med track. He used his move to college to reinvent himself, trying to be more outgoing and realized that he really liked being around other people. He was listless; though he kept with his pre-med coursework he also took up an English minor and dabbled in as much other stuff as his major requirements would allow. Nothing really felt right to him. He and some friends threw together a garage band and started practicing. He was pretty decent on the guitar and could carry a good tune, even writing some original lyrics. The band got some local gigs but tore itself apart due to personality conflicts and egos, his own included. Everything came tumbling apart during his second year at Princeton, the final straw so to speak: there was an accident and a number of his friends were badly hurt in the process. He had to leave. He called his mother and told her he was dropping out to become a musician. She started crying and he hung up. He couldn't explain and this was his life. He grabbed his guitar and his backpack and threw what he could fit into the trunk of his '65 Mustang Fastback before leaving the dorms. He was going to experience America. He would get something to truly write about, something to give meaning to his music. He headed West back to his roots.
Age: 44
Allegiance: Neutral
Cybercast: Simon Baker
Ability: Time Manipulation (no time travel)
History: Born the son of Eric and Margaret Thorne (1965), he was a fairly average child. He liked the outdoors, he liked baseball. In fact, he had settled on baseball as his career choice at the age of 12, like many other boys. This all changed at the age of 14, he failed to look both ways when crossing a street and a car was headed right at him. Time seemed to slow to a crawl and he was able to get out of the way of the car before things returned to normal. His initial inclination was to dismiss this as a trick of the mind because he’d almost been killed, but he began to notice other temporal oddities in the days and months to come. He became more interested in science and really applied himself at school, graduating early (1982).
After high school, he went to UCLA to study biomechanical engineering (BA 1985) and then went through their bioengineering program in record time (PhD 1988). Before graduating, he met his future wife, Alyssa Balisong. Alyssa and David moved to the bay area when David took on a position doing drug development. His relationship with Alyssa escalated rapidly and they got married in the same year that he finished grad school and moved to the San Francisco area. Their son, Marcus was born just a bit more than a year after that (1989). David’s abilities grew while he was at college and in the years after, allowing him to speed up or slow down his own passage through time relative to the rest of the world, to the point of seeming to step outside of time, effectively stopping it.
His relationship with Alyssa came to an end in 2001. Alyssa became convinced that David was having an affair with a younger woman. She confronted him over this and though he denied any wrongdoing, she was adamant. In the end he gave up fighting for her and she received her divorce. The following year, David opened his own biotech company, Thorne Solutions, which has been doing well. Two years following the divorce, David had a relationship with a woman having the same name as the person Alyssa had once accused him of carrying on with, though it was short-lived.
Age: Appears around 20 (been around since before WWII at least)
Allegiance: Neutral/Villain
Ability: Energy Vampirism
Cybercast: Emma Roberts
History: The way she tells it, she grew up an only child in Alexandria, VA. Both of her parents spoiled her a great deal. Tragically, both of them died in a car accident when she was 18, leaving her a small inheritance which she squanders. She tossed college out the window at the time, saying she just wasn't ready for it. Based on revelations from talking with Jeremy and Totec, it is now clear that this is a fabrication for her current persona. The truth is something else altogether and may involve her having been born prior to WW II.
Age: 62
Allegiance: Neutral
Ability: Telepathy
Cybercast: Patrick Bauchau
History: Patrick came of age in the 60s and became a doctor. He ended up working for the government and military on assorted projects over time, including the project that came after MK-ULTRA and some involvement in the Stargate Project, which has nothing to do with large rings allowing people to travel between planets. His work in these and subsequent projects have all focused on the mind: controlling it chemically, psychologically, and through special abilities (though that part is unshared with the government). He was a believer, because he knew that things like this could really be done, because he, like those he sought after, was special. He is currently director for a project named Tabula Rasa.
History: London Jamison was born in upstate New York (1984), the younger sister of Adrian. She grew up in her brother's shadow. He was incredibly bright, pulling As in high school and college. She was more of a B-student. While her brother went into finance and did very well for himself, she got a degree in English and managed to publish one short story after graduating. Anything her brother touched seemed to turn to gold, the Midas touch, while she wrecked most things she came in to contact with, couldn't get a good job, couldn't get a good boyfriend, couldn't get the love of her parents, not like Adrian. She's held a string of bartending and waitressing jobs and has done a little bit of volunteering for animal shelters, Habitat for Humanity, and the like. She'd given up on trying to make her parents happy and instead finally learned that she is responsible only for making herself happy, doing what makes her happy. This realization was like a weight being lifted from her shoulders. She travelled the country some, stopping to work as money became short. It was during these travels that she ran in to a spot of trouble and was extricated by Julian Decker, which led to her introduction to a rag-tag band of do-gooders. That was six months back. She's been trying to give back more since then, though her efforts are often clumsy.
