Re: What do you think of the current music industry?
I feel that they were doing pretty well. Like I was telling my friend, with artists like Sara Bareilles, Colbie Caillat, Jason Mraz, Weezer and others with new albums, it's like a breath of fresh air from all the rap that's been thrown around the past few years. And if they kep coming out with more singers like that, I wouldn't mind returning to my pop roots. Even some of the punk-rock area is coming too fake and monotone for me.
EDIT:
and I think that labels should tell their artists what they should put on their albums...but only if the artist got some guts.
Take Sara Breilles. Her label told her to "write them a love song" for the album. So she went back and wrote "Love Song" which is really about them tellling her to write a love song. Big hit.
Weezer was told tht they needed a lead single by their label after previewing the album. Out came "Pork and Beans" about not conforming to other's standards. Big hit.

Re: What do you think of the current music industry?
I only hear one or two new songs a month (sometimes months) that I think are really good enough to actually go out and buy. Mostly, all I hear on the radio are junky (here today, gone tomorrow) hip-hop/rap and mindless pop songs that have no staying power.
Re: What do you think of the current music industry?
Ditto. Hip-hop has lost all originality, rap has lost its edge, punk-pop tries to rock out while keeping it light and fails, and pop... well, example #1: The Jonas Brothers *shudders*. You really can't find much these days except for a few older artists that still have their own personal style, and underground stuff. Oh well, soon we'll be able to look back on this decade like we did for fashion in the '80s. And pretend it never existed.

Re: What do you think of the current music industry?
I think the industry has become a pack of sniveling whiners. Internet pirating is costing us so much money we barely make anything when we produce an album. Total Bunk!!!
Two weeks ago half of Brooks and Dunn (don't remember which) purchased the most expensive house ever sold in Tennesee. When these people start showing up to premieres in a '69 beetle in a rented tux, I am not going to have any sympathy for them. Next time I see U2 flying coach, I will consider feeling sorry for these people.
The only people that deserve to talk about lack of monetary support are the local or regional artists that are just starting out. Once you achieve the multimillion dollar record deal, you don't have the right to whine about cash.
