So I was thinking about our RP here and others elsewhere on the internetz, and I've come to an interesting conclusion:
Gah, I hate other RP sites.
For instance, if you search for a Star Wars RP, you'll find that your character must manually be approved before you can post. Now, if this was done timely, it might not be much of a problem. But couple that with the ridiculous scaling system and character creation specifics, it can get pretty hectic.
However, here, you create and go pretty much, which is nice. It does however slowly begin to create a stalemate on specific characters. Very rarely do we see characters used for long periods of time or outside one thread. We usually RP like we use toilet paper rolls, "Use til it's over, and replace with a new one". I mean, it's very fun here, don't get me wrong. However I was thinking that we might consider implementing a sort of scaling or leveling system to reward veteran RP'ers while creating something fresh.
That's just hell, especially when you get the "Okay well divide by your dodge rating but multiply by your haste rating, oh you're in water, divide by two, now minus by 3 because you're tired and add 2 because, you look cute. Okay you got a 7 you died."
The ristupulous amount of equating you do to solve these things is to much. So I want to go very basic.
Granted this will take a lot of time to implement successfully but I though it'd be nice to really help shape characters beyond their personality and what power they have.
I thought we could have some kind of system where a veteran RP'er gets a point, or maybe two, for every year here. They can spend these points on another power (with approval from mods and a power that doesn't violate the rules).
The year time period is so long, so as to limit the quick advantages of new users, and to award already veteraned users. Though these points might also be integrated in other ways instead.
If we wanted to get just slightly more complicated, we would classify characters into characters who are better at conversation and charming their ways out of harm, or the obvious fighting stats, or how good they are with cars/computers/medicine/ect. . . .
Basically I want to be able to diversify the characters more, but minus the crazy equations of standard RPGs of different flavors. Opinions?

Re: A scaling system of sorts
The only thing I see coming from that, is maybe a rank, assigned by the mods, of how well they RP. Each month, they update the "rankings" by how they see the storylines going. Maybe to help improve your character idea karambit, they could ranking characters too. That way people could try to become a better RPer and have longer characters.
Ex: (In Sig) Overall RP Ranking - 4th
Andy Wood Ranking - 5th
I think the concept is a little too convoluted. And any sort of scaling or ranking system would be hard to keep track of. I'm all for making adjustments if they're necessary, but I just don't see the point to this. Sorry, Kilfer.
I just see us making like, 3-5 different characters before we generally play many of them out. So I was hoping to see someway of getting some kind of general "evolving over time" concept.

You obviously haven't been looking deep enough. There are plenty of characters that have been around through multiple storylines. They are the ones that most people consider to be the "faces" of this RPG.
Examples (Past and Present):
Riley Walker
Kelly Borne
Jack Raiden
Andy Wood
Shawn Pent
Chris Cambell (sp?)
Jeremy Clarke
Nick Harper
And those are just ones I know of. . .
Yes, people tend to throw away characters, but unless you find someone you really click with, it's boring and tiresome to RP with them. I do agree though that we need to start encouraging people to put more effort in to their characters.
