What could have been...

San Diego - February 8th
Bridge top, 7pm
Riley Walker and Chris Campbell

Chris caught another pulse from Riley in mid air throwing it away and at Josh who flew through the air towards him. As Josh's magnetic field was thrown out of balance by the blast he veered off towards the river below while Chris and Riley continued to fight. She ran at Chris now, determined to stop her friend, to save him...

Meanwhile Jack, unseen by the 2 picked up one of the weapons discarded by the injured and dying CIA agents. He leveled it at Chris waiting for a clear shot.

As Chris and Riley through electricity and punches, as Riley tried to restrain her friend the gunshot was heard. The bullet lodged deep into Chris's shoulder and he stumped back. Riley? Why was he even fighting this? It wasn't worth losing her, his life maybe but Riley? He couldn't hurt her and look what he'd done!

He stumbled back and Riley caught him just before he could tumble over the bridge rail. She held him and desperately tried to stop the bleeding as Chris slipped into unconsciousness.


February 9th. 10pm
San Diego General Hospital

Chris slowly opened his eyes. The world seemed dull, his senses dimmed. He didn't know yet but it was due to the pain killers. What he also didn't realize was why he had been given such a large dose. he reached for the bedside and lifted himself up. The report was just now starting on the TV.

He could barely see Liz sitting by his bedside, her head resting asleep on his bed while she sat uncomfortably in a chair. He remembered... pieces. As he reached down to brush a hair from Liz's face the features became clearer. Riley.. he whispered. And suddenly it all came back to him. The memories made all the more powerful by the news report on the television.

At approximately 6pm last night 2 people battled over the streets of San Diego. Authorities are keeping the identities of not only these people but all those directly involved secret but our sources have told us that what little information they have access too indicates some kind of supernatural powers.

The footage we are showing you now is of a man apparently moving metal and throwing lightening bolts with his mind. The President has not made official comment on this revelation thus far but it is known that the UN met some time this evening to discuss these events.

It was out. Chris could hardly believe it. The world knew about them. He looked out the window at the full moon shining onto his bed. What would tomorrow hold for him, for Riley, for the world....

Hayley Braxton

There was no getting sleep after the news report Hayley had heard the night before. The words echoed in her head like an annoying jingle from TV...

At approximately 6pm last night 2 people battled over the streets of San Diego. Authorities are keeping the identities of not only these people but all those directly involved secret but our sources have told us that what little information they have access too indicates some kind of supernatural powers.

The footage we are showing you now is of a man apparently moving metal and throwing lightening bolts with his mind. The President has not made official comment on this revelation thus far but it is known that the UN met some time this evening to discuss these events.

What this would do to not only her, but many others.... Hayley glanced to the side where a newspaper sat in its case. It was on the front page too. Hayley was a metahuman, one who could absorb electricity. She knew hers was less likely to be found out, but it still worried her. What if powers could be detected in them? People always found ways to do things like this...

Hayley was ripped from her train of thought by a guy standing next to her, "Would ya move kid?" He snapped. Hayley shuffled silently past him and continued her walk. She was in a far too worried state to snap back the remark in her head, "You could walk past me, but oh yeah, you wouldn't fit between me and the building. Put down the donuts." She stuffed her hands in her pockets and continued on her way down the San Diego streets. She wanted to see where the fight took place. The man's power was similar to her own. Hayley wanted to see what he could do.

Ramsey dropped the paint brush. His eyes widened as he looked up at the glowing TV screen. Slouching over on his stool, he ran his red-paint covered hands through his gelled up hair and gave a long sigh.

“Crap, crap, crap,” he said, standing up to gather his things. Slipping on his coat, and grabbing his keys, he walked over to his loft elevator and pushed the down button. After the longest 2 seconds of his life, the bells “dinged” open and he stepped inside. As the elevator went down 5 levels, he slipped on his shades and attempted to peel the paint off of his hands. The doors opened, and he stepped out into the cool lobby.

People were everywhere staring up at the TV’s. There was murmuring heard about the sightings as more and more people began to join in. A young lady walked up to him and gave a polite “Hello.” Freaking out, he nervously smiled back, and continued walking towards the glass doors. He felt so vulnerable, as if everyone could him slowly fading to walk through a wall. He huddled up inside his coat and walked outside, to look at the cars parked outside the bridge where the scene had happened. Shaking his head, he ran down the street towards the crowd, hoping there was any chance this would all pass over.

Imua entered the building. People were scrambling around trying to get a better look at the television. He looked over at Brooke. They had just left the scene and were in a nearby apartment complex. News reports were playing the same images of Chris and Riley on the TV in the office.
"God, this can't be good." He said to Brooke.
They walked past the security guard who was staring at the screen with his mouth open. Using a knife, Imua opened one of the rooms and threw the bag he was carrying on the ground and grabbed some clothes out of it.
"We need to make sure that Chris and Riley's identity aren't leaked or exposed to the public." He said as he changed his shirt.
He could tell by Brooke's face that she thought he was crazy. Honestly, he sort of thought that too. Without Luke or Boss, they had no way of knowing where to begin.
Imua walked into the bathroom and turned on the water. He looked at his face in the mirror. There was a cut near his temple and a few bruises of his cheeks. Other than that, he was pretty lucky to get out of there alive.

OOC: this AU seems like it has a lot of potential, so i decided to bump it!

Casey Knight

Casey didn't know what in life she wanted, and living with her ability just seemed to get harder and harder to deal with. She was walking on the San Diego bridge near the center she sat near an 'I' beam, the water looked so calm, tiny ripples skimmed the surface, there was calm there, not to many voices bothering her there, it was her place she often went for some peace however that night the peace was suddenly broken but screeching tires people came out of the cars and then gun shots.
Casey saw lighting and metal being throw every where a piece whizzed by her, she was panicking now, she started to run she heard someone say "stop her" before something hit her.

Later she found herself in some cell, her purse wasn't with her, they took her clothes and she was in a smock like garb.

A person that was outside noticed she was awake and radioed someone else.

A man and woman came in and the person that was watching left.

"Why am I here?" Casey asked as she went up to the bars looking at the two.

The man and woman looked at each other and unlocked her cell the women walked in "Can you tell us why you were on the bridge last night?"

"Last night?" had she been out 'that' long? what the h*ll did they hit her with? she thought to herself then looked at the women. "I was sitting there enjoying the view" she said with a matter of face tone to her voice, she wasn't lying at all but she knew they wouldn't understand nor did she want to tell them more.

"So you just happen to be there when those two . . . the woman clearly wanted to call them something

"Suspects?" Casey filled in her sentence.

The woman walked around the small frame female before her sizing her up from her posture to they way she looked and talked. "Tell me something, if you were there for the view, why did you run?"

"You'd run too if you had huge pieces of 'I' beam coming at you" Casey didn't bat a lash at the woman or the man, she didn't want to hear them.

"So you just happen to be there when all this went down and you ran, you didn't stop when asked too, is that correct?" the women was intense, coming closer to Casey with each step.

"Look I am telling you nothing more ... she took several steps back until she was able to sit on the so called bed "I have a right to speak with a lawyer" she said to them.

The woman stood up rather straight tring hard to make herself look bigger then she was "A lawyer? Ok then" she said leaveing he cell and closing the door behind her "It will be awhile, think about it" she added as the two left and she could hear the guy comment "That went well, not"

Casey rubbed her temples her head was starting to hurt.

Brooke Mars.

The brunette followed Imua as he entered the building.
They were shocked that someone had footage of Chris using his powers, and the media had gotten hold of the video.
The secret was out, right after the man who was in charge of protecting it died. Everything was spiralling out of control.

Brook watched as the man opened the door with a knife.
He really knew his way around ,but she had picked up some skills when she was in the agency as well.
"We need to make sure that Chris and Riley's identity aren't leaked or exposed to the public."

Three months ago, Brooke would've objected strongly, thinking that it wasn't their war to fight, but things have changed overtime, and she understood that it was the right thing to do, no matter how crazy it seems.
The woman just smiled and nodded, changing her clothes in to a top and jeans when Imua was in the bathroom.

She had noticed the cuts on his face, so she pulled a first aid kit and applied some medicine on tissue paper. Brooke walked into the bathroom, and put the medicine on his bruises.
''Stay still, this'll help it heal faster. '' she said with a smile.
''So.. what are we going to do?'' she asked . She knew that had to do something, but she didn't know what.

Riley Walker

He's going to die. Everything is going to end, right here, right now. I have to watch my best friend die, because I trusted someone I shouldn't have. Maybe I was wrong, maybe he'll never change... Her thoughts were grim, and somewhat gruesome as her nightmares carried her through a vortex of troubling possibilities. Riley Walker could only constantly relive that moment on the bridge, watching a bullet slam right into Chris' chest. The blood had been everywhere... seeming to stain her hands red for an eternity. It felt like she was watching her own life on a screen somewhere far away, as the medics arrived and placed Chris into the ambulance... and out of her arms.

He was almost safe now, almost clear of danger. Riley just had to wait for him to wake up. She had fallen asleep though, no matter how much she fought it. Now in the midst of her dreams Jack was a bitter part of them. She really thought they were friends... The now twenty year old slowly woke up, trying to move her stiff neck. She could hear a newscast in the background. Her eyes slowly traveled to the tiny TV screen. Sh!t... they know... everyone knows. Riley could not think of what to do. She was on tape, using her electrokinesis. Chris was as well, a good fifteen minutes of their fight was on nation wide television. Great... just great. Now we're going to... oh god I don't even know what will happen.

In all of her clouded thoughts Riley had not even realized Chris had said her name, or even awakened. She stood up slowly, stretching out the stiff muscles. When she turned back towards the chair she realized he was sitting up, his eyes open. Now Riley just wondered if this was the real Chris, her Chris.
"Chris...? Are you okay?"
What else was there to say? Sorry my ex-friend shot you? Riley just hoped her best friend was back... Not the different personality Trinity, a sadness over Liz, and that weird blonde chick had created.

Imua sat still as Brooke applied medicine onto his wounds. Her question was going through his mind. He wasn't sure exactly what to do either. Everything seemed to be coming in so fast. The disappearance of Caz and Nick. The fact that Gray was also no where to be found after getting sent to a hospital. Everything was coming full circle. He was just glad that there were some people still around from the past, but now their faces were plastered all over the TV. It was getting a little too much for Imua to process into his head. Never had so many people he cared about been in so much danger. He could feel emotions churning inside of him. He tried hard to push them deeper.
"We need to find them. Make sure they're okay." Was all he could say.

As she aided his wounds, Brooke could sense the frustration in the man's eyes.
She felt for him, it wasn't easy after everything that he'd gone through, and now his friends are exposed to the whole world. They needed to be out of the public's sight.

Throwing the tissue to the bin, Brooke went back to her bag and took out her cell. It was one of those high-tech mobiles that was issued by the CIA , which included a GPS system.
''Well, I know where they are,'' she started s she pressed some buttons on the phone.
''Chris was injured badly, and there was only one hospital near the area where he was shot. '' she told Imua.
''If we're lucky, he...or even both of them might still be there. '' she said. She never personally knew these people, but she trusted Imua's judgement .

Chris's hand reached out to touch Riley's. He squeezed her hand softly, his shoulder aching as he did. Hey kiddo. Where've I been? The rage was gone. The hatred, the sadness was still there. But it was a dull memory now. He felt ... himself. I caused a little bit of a mess didn't I?

Inside he was starting too panic. There he was on camera destroying half a city. Letting the full power of his ability loose on innocent people. This wasn't going to jsut go away. They had to run.
