The trip had been boring. It was a relatively short flight to Philadelphia. Once the plane landed, John led Shawn directly to his car. They stopped at a drive in for some food, then made their way to HELIX Headquarters.
Once they were about thirty minutes away, John looked at his passenger. "Sorry about this, but it's protocol." He said, reaching for a blindfold.
John led Shawn from behind, through a wooded area. After a half an hour they came to a clearing in a valley. Ahead of them, a building the looked rather like a hotel, stood. John walked Shawn into the building, then removed his blindfold.
They were in what could be called a lobby. It looked as if someone had meshed a hospital together with a hotel. John instructed Shawn to wait here for a moment while John took care of some "business."
John had walked down the hallway until he came to a room that the workers here affectionately called 'The Arena.' He ordered some of the workers to set up various obstacles and materials for Shawn to test his abilities. It was rumored that the head of HELIX was going to be here to see the test himself. John wanted everything to be perfect.
This test was going to test Shawn's powers and exactly how he used them in stressful situations.
John walked back into the waiting room and beckoned for Shawn to follow him.
Shawn followed John down a hallway and into a large, open room with what looked like an obstacle course in the middle. "So where do you want me to start?"
"Well, this isn't your average test. It will test your reflexes and power of will as well."
John gave a sly smile, then quickly turned in the opposite direction and walked out the door.
As soon as he left, the commotion started. (Well, here you can have some fun... obstacles and swords and everything coming at you from everywhere. Enjoy....)
Shawn nonchantly ambled into the obstacle course. The first thing he came to was a concrete wall. Shawn simply put his hand on it, waited a few moments, then walked on. He ducked as the next obstacle came up, a swinging pendulum. Shawn turned right, and found himself facing a series of tests that reminded him of a playground. He effortlessly got through this. Then, he came to the edge of a pool filled with a odd, milky-white substance. Shawn kneeled by it and put his hand in it. He let out a scream of pain. "What the hell is this?"
A voice came over the intercom. "It's a highly corrosive base, Ph 13."
Shawn hesitantly dipped a glowing hand into the pool. Instantly, a change took place. Swirls began appearing on the surface, and the milky liquid turned clear. Shawn then jumped in and quickly swam across.
As Shawn lifted himself out and dried himself with a towel lying on the ground, a whistle pierced the air, and Shawn groaned. He looked down and saw a small dagger sticking out of his side. He pulled it out, and saw that the end was blunt and blackened. Surprised, Shawn looked down at his injury and saw his yellowish liquid covering it. Cool.
After this ordeal, the rest was easy in comparison. Shawn completed the maze a little tired, but mostly relaxed. Several uniformed agents came at him, congratulating him and such. Shawn waved them away as he sat down on a bench and absentmindly picked up his phone, which he had laid then earlier. Noticing he had a message, Shawn pressed the 'accept' option and listened to it. His face fell.
