Default The future!

So yeah, this has been bugging me.
Remeber episode 20. Ando and Hiro travel 5 years into the future. Well, its the future where Peter doesnt save claire, So Sylar gets Claires power and Peter explodes NYC. Well, when Ando and Hiro talk to the future heroes the future heroes learn that Peter got the message and Claire is still alive. One trip later it is revealed that Mr. Bennet is talking to Claire in the future.

First of all. Why cant future Peter remember that he saved Claire.
Second (and most important) the future that Hiro and Ando went too would have been the same future that happened at the end of Heroes (NYC not exploding).
Third of all. The future Peter is still alive even thought it was him that exploded. Maybe in Generations we will see and return of Peter.

Discuss.

It was a "What if" episode that has no bearing on any other canon event. Besides, Peter can heal, so even if he exploded, he would survive.

True, but he has to heal from somehting. If he explode like that then he woudl ever be dead dead or he would take at least a million years to heal back. Its still one of the best episodes though. Everyone dies.

What Ikin said. Yes, the writers will probably incorporate some aspects of "5 Years Gone' into future storylines, but the future as you saw it in that episode is no more.

Cool Re: The future!

This is why most writers need to stay away from time travel at all cost.

There are three timelines to consider:
1) our current timeline in the present
2) the original timeline 5 years in the future, the bad one the led directly to FHiro
3) the altered timeline 5 years in the future, the one Ando visited.

We know that timelines 2 and 3 cannot be the same because FHiro was obsessed with changing the past (our present) and concluded that if Peter had been able to save Claire then his world would not have turned out like it had.
When PHiro and Ando (there is no FAndo, remember?) visit the future Claire had already been saved, which is why she is there....albeit in disguise, probably after HRG had helped her go into hiding.

Although FHiro was convinced that saving Claire from Sylar would prevent the Dystopian Future, there was really only one event that precipitated it--the explosion in the heart of NYC. This is why Claire didn't exist in the original Dark Future but does exist in the partially-altered Dark Future.
In that timeline, Peter exploded in the city; since Theodore was never hurt as a result of exploding neither was Peter. FSylar never killed Theodore and thus didn't have his power, but I suspect FNathan told everyone that Sylar did it--he certainly couldn't blame his own brother, could he? Unfortunately for FNathan, Sylar managed to obtain Candice's power, enabling him to "sneak up" on FNathan, kill him, and take his power--and political office. At this point, FSylar puts everyone on the path taking them into the Dystopian Future: mass roundups of supers, quasi-martial law, an extreme version of Homeland Security with a telepathic commander, etc.

Thanks to FHiro's efforts, PPeter and PHiro managed to save Claire; thanks to Nathan (there is no FNathan, remember?) there is no explosion in NYC. This means the Dark Future no longer exists. FHiro has inadvertently--or purposely--willed himself out of existence!

Sylar didn't explode because it was more fun to taunt Peter into exploding. Of course, then Hiro stabbed him while his attention was distracted. After that, he had to conserve his energy to drag himself into the sewer, so he couldn't stop long enough to explode.

I think taunting Peter is out of his system now and the game of blowing up NYC doesn't interest him anymore. Sylar will move on to projects of a more personal interest....

As I just explained in another thread, as Ted in the Bennett household when he was radiating, everything around him was burning, but he actually wasn't. He was just radiating it. Therefore, when Peter can't control his powers causing a massive explosion, it was radiate out from him and won't be blowing him into a squillion pieces. As we know, in the future as depicted in episode 20, Peter exploded and blew up New York so he'd have just been standing there on his lonesome after a few minutes in the middle of a decimated city thinking, "Wtf just happened here like?"
