Tim Kring Reveals that Volume 3 to Begin the Middle of Season 2!
This is a surprise. In an interview at the 2007 Comic Con, Tim Kring revealed some details about the upcoming Season 2, and how it relates to the show’s “volumes”, namely that Volumes 2 and 3 will not follow the pattern set by Volume 1, which took the entire season 1 to conclude. Instead, Volume [...]

That's the way to maximize your profit margin, Tim!
He's right, though. So many shows have found themselves completely limited by their story by season 4. By trying to stay with only one set of characters and one plotline, there are only so many places to go.

They also run the risk of people losing interest as their favorite characters leave the show. They will always have to keep on the ball with bold new ideas. And even Rod Sterling ran out of ideas for the Twilight Zone eventually.

i think its kinda cool though. This season was great and all, but it did feel like they were stretching for 23 episodes. there was a lot that could have been left out and still gotten to the same ending point.

Yah, I was a little disappointed by the 3-episode finale. I thought they were saving up the budget for the final finish, but beh, there wasn't anything in the finale they couldn't and hadn't already done in previous eps.

I like the idea. There's nothing to be ashamed of in a shorter story arc if the story calls for it. I agree last seasons main storyline could've actually been resolved sooner than it was.
Also, if Generations deals a lot with familial histories, to be honest I'm glad that won't take all season. Its an intriguing story which I'm certainly looking forward to getting the answers to of course, but not at the expense of my favorite characters for too long. For example I think, while a lot of fans are certainly interested in the history of the Petrelli family, ultimately they're tuning into Heroes for Peter and Nathan.

Kring really wants to this Heroes momentum going so with him making the move to put two volumes in one season is a good idea. it'll keep things interesting.
and he's really afraid of Heroes becoming a LOST and i really hope that Heroes doesn't go down that path :S

I think this is a good choice, because I don't think they would be able to make a full season based on the "Generations" concept. They'll need to get back to just focusing on the present characters at the middle of next season, which is exactly what they're doing.
