OK, this is my attempt at damage control. I've read your guys' suggestions on how to deal with the bomb happening in the sky instead of on the ground. I considered making it so that Candice used an illusion, but I didn't see any possible reason why she would do that. I also thought about just acting like nothing changed, but that wouldn't work either because the fact of the matter is that something did change.
So the conclusion I came up with is to adjust your storylines a little bit. Since most of the storyline is still intact even though the location of the bomb changed (note that in my main storyline, I never actually said that the explosion killed the .07% of the world's population like Linderman said), all we really have to do is play off any part of the story where the explosion being on the ground played a role. What this means is that we should still have our characters go to New York and organize as heroes and villains, regardless of whatever's changed. Even though the explosion happened in the sky, it still caused devastation in New York, just to a lesser degree. People are still scared, and Peter is still the cause. That much, at least, has remained the same.
Of course, I still want your guys' opinions. Do you like this idea?
That sounds cool heroic. So does that mean that planes, trains, and buses are going into NYC?? I noticed that it several characters talked about planes and other things not going into NYC.
I think that the planes, trains, and buses going to New York would still (for the most part) be cancelled. Of course, there are some planes, trains, and buses that will still be going there, but even an explosion in the sky would cause major transportation methods to be cancelled.
I hardly see why people would want to go to new york if a nuclear explosion happened there. If anything, any normal person would leave the city and stay as far away from there as possible, even with someone with abilities. Just because they have abilities doesn't make them any less human. Of course I can't say that for everyone but you get my picture. Some people won't care if it didn't happen near them or some are too busy wrapped up in other situations. Not everyone can play the 'macho' man roles.

I got a thought, why not just say, that all the stories so far by the players, are what happened when the bomb went off in the "Bad Future" timeline (When Hiro went to the future).
Something to fill the void of the 5 years that went by, eventually leading to the persecution of the metahumans~
Yeah, I don't think people wanna participate in the alternate future timeline we saw in "Five Years Gone." I think it's best to just slightly adjust the current storyline and make it so that the explosion happened in the air.
yea that would be a big shock to us all to find out that the explosion appened in the air, it would scare alot of us because of the damage it caused even tho it was miles away
so should we just start going with this now?

Not that I am participating in this, but just a thought - when 9/11 happened, true heroes from all over this country (and others) came to NY to help. When I saw the search and recovery rescues, there were fire departments from California that drove their trucks across country, without stopping, just to help the fallen. So, I think that it has been proven in real life that when a tragedy happens somewhere, true heroes will go there to help.
Even I, at 5'2" and 94lbs, a total wimp with no superpowers, helped the efforts.
So - my point is, NY can still be a great "meet up" place.
