I thought more people would be talking about this, actually. It practically ruined the finale for me, but I'm assuming for the time being that I'm just missing something.
If Peter had gotten shot, wouldn't he heal as soon as someone removed the bullets? So, why did Nathan decide to sacrifice himself to make sure that he was scattered into a million tiny pieces all over the stratosphere instead of just getting shot? Besides, if Peter was still able to stand up and talk right before exploding, couldn't he just fly up himself? And (this one, I'll accept without proof, just because Nathan's, but it's still bothering me) wouldn't he be at super-hot temperatures that would make it pretty much impossible for Nathan to pick him up?
Was that it? I thought there was definitely the implication that Peter was going to die. That would make sense though, if Claire was just worried about Noah dying.
Knocking ted out did stop his power, so you'd think doing the same would stop Peter, except he'd come round very quickly due to regeneration. But I would think that shooting him in the back of the head to "kill" him would stop his power, then take him out to the desert and remove the bullet, job done.
I presume he was going to explode because he was surrounded by all the heroes, and he was taking too much on board at once, so if he woke in the desert with just him and say Claire then he should regain control, or just blow up anyway which Claire can probably survive.
In the graphic novel he is surrounded by hundreds of "heroes" in the prison but doesn't go nuclear so I can only think at this point he has learnt to control it.
I don't think that it was because he was around all of the heroes. I think it had more to do with his emotions. When he lost Claire, he ran out to the streets yelling her name and all of a sudden he starts becoming radiant. He is near no one.

Re: Question About the Finale
I was actually wondering why nathan had to fly Peter into the air if Peter could've just absorbed his power...wow, that sounded stupid while I was writing it...
Peter couldn't control his powers, it wasn't just Ted's he couldn't control, he started doing it before when he was learnig to control them and he hadn't even met ted. peter's powers run off his emotions, when he is angry or upset he loses control of them. it kind of links to what simones father was saying about how peter has heart?
As for NAthan touchng Peter. His flesh must be very strong to take the brutality of flight. If you ntoice when he first flew he broke the sound barrier (the puff of smoke) ..thats very fast and he suffered no injury. So his skin must have some good resiliance(sp?)

Good point. The same could be said for his eyes. I know that Archangel in X-Men had similar abilities because he needed them to fly.
