Stargate SG-1 star Amanda Tapping will join the cast of SCI FI Channel's spinoff series Stargate Atlantis in that show's upcoming fourth season, which commences in the fall, SCI FI announced. Tapping will reprise the role of Lt. Col. Samantha Carter in Atlantis; she played the character in the 10 seasons of SG-1, which goes off the air after completing the final 10 episodes of the current 10th season, starting in April.
Atlantis will resume production on the fourth season in Vancouver, Canada, starting next month. Tapping will appear in 14 of Atlantis's 20 episodes. The new season will introduce a powerful new race, new cast members and mark the loss of beloved friends.
Meanwhile, Jewel Staite (Firefly, Serenity) returns to Atlantis and will appear in eight episodes, reprising her role as Dr. Keller, a physician who joins the Atlantis expedition. Staite previously appeared on the series as Ellia, the Wraith child who was transformed into a human in the season two episode "Instinct."
Season four of Stargate Atlantis will be executive-produced by Brad Wright, Robert C. Cooper, Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie. Mallozzi and Mullie will share the reins as the series' show runners.
The final episodes of Stargate SG-1 and the remainder of the third season of Stargate Atlantis will air starting April 13…
Wow, okay. Hmm, I don't know. I tuned out of "Atlantis" after the first year, but I might tune back in now. Then again, that show seems kind of stuff with characters now after they introduced that Ronan (or Roan) or whatever his name is guy.

Re: Tapping Joins Stargate Atlantis
I really like SG Atlantis, although I don't get to see it very often. Amanda Tapping is just another reason to watch! I have been considering upgrading my cable so that I have Sci Fi channel so that I can get my fill of SG1 and SGAtlantis.
Great news! Thanks for posting this Hero! I knew Jewel Staite was joining, and I knew there were rumors of one of the SG-1 members joining, but I am glad to hear it is Amanda. Michael's character might've made more sense since he speaks Atlantian, but no prob for me.
Sam, yeah Atlantis has been a bit weird of late. The Replicators retuned, but not really, which is confusing. If they are introducing a new race for season 4 I say great. Hopefully it will be a great new concept.

As I said I sort of tuned in after the second season premiere. So what happened to the Wraith? Are they gone?
Nope. They're just exceedingly stupid. Maybe they'll all die by Season 3? Or there was an episode where they turned a hive ship's wraith into humans, so maybe it goes wide-scale? Or, they live. I dunno
She was sooo good in that pilot episode. Higginson is just ... meh to me. I think the writers could've done much more interesting things with Weir if they had had Steen to write for.
I liked the show in spite of Higginson so I'm glad I stuck with it now. Lots of great actresses involved. Maybe they'll kill Higginson off... Probably not, but I can dream!
