I saw the History Channel special on that story once. Fascinating stuff--and true, to boot. If I recall correctly, it began as a statistics/probability research project and then quickly took on a life of its own.
By the way...the average blackjack card has an expected value of slightly over 6; if you have 3 cards dealt to you then you have a good chance of scoring 18 or higher, but there is an increased chance of going over 21.
