Drive is a show that will be aired by Fox sometime in the midseason. The basic premise behind the show is a man who's wife has been kidnapped is coerced into joining an underground race across America. Tim Minear was one of the executive producers of the show Firefly, and Nathan Fillion played the lead role, Capt. Mal Reynolds, in the same show. Nathan Fillion also played the cop in the movie "Slither" as well as being one of the cast in the show "Two Guys, A Girl, and a Pizza Place." Also, in the latest season of Lost, he has played Kate's husband in flashbacks.

So my guess is that it isn't much Sci-Fi. It sounds like a serialized drama somewhat along the lines of the Amazing Race. That doesn't sound as bad as it does, since Lost originally was ABC's attempt to feed off of "Survivor." The ABC execs wanted a drama show much like "what if people were stranded on an island?" since Survivor was skyrocketing through the ratings.
I'll be watching. I loved Tim Minear's show "Wonderfalls" and I've been following Nathan since Firefly (I love all things Whedon). I hope FOX gives this show a better chance than it gave to "Wonderfalls".
As far as we know, the show is straight - only adventure and suspense, no scifi, although supposedly it's including character arcs like on Lost. There are a couple forums already - the "official" one on Fox at foxdrive and one like Sam's place combining a newsy site with the forum at Drive Fans. I'm on at both -- natch
The premise is a combination of Cannonball Run and Lost - a large group of people taking part in an illegal race across the USA with a $32 million prize at the end. Some are racing for the money and some don't have a choice Nathan Fillion was also in Firefly,Serenity, and White Noise 2. He's the "star" but more in the manner of Matthew Fox on Lost where he's not the main character in every episode -- and hopefully not as irritating.
The show has already been cancelled once. Now that that's over with, we have high hopes.

I believe what happened was either the pilot order was cancelled or the season order was originally cancelled after the pilot was made. Cabri would know more when she answers. Basically, FOX went "Oops!" and decided to make the season order. I think....
Cabri?
cab?
hello?

It probably didn't do very well with test audiences so the network got skittish (I'm just guessing) which would lead to casting and story tweaking. Happens all the time in TV.
