Mathsorcerer's Musings vol 1
1. HRG
Only a moron sends a normal out in the field to round up and/or track down supers; only a moron who is a normal would try to track down supers. HRG is not a moron; therefore....either HRG has an as-yet-unused (or not obvious) ability (the psychometry I have mentioned elsewhere) or his ability is latent and he is trying to develop it.
For whom does HRG work? I suspect either the Deveaux Society or Lindermann, but we still don't really know enough about either to reach any conclusions. Either way, I think he still has his own agenda.
2. MBG, or the Haitian
He can speak--imagine that. He has his own agenda, too--what were the odds of that? Is he working with HRG and views him as a "junior" partner because of his normalcy? Is he just going along with the normals because he has nothing better to do...or his plans aren't ready yet? If he is working with other supers...who are they? What do they want?
This character has the most potential, because he can open up so many plot threads.
3. Niki/Jessica
We should have seen that coming. Now Niki has a big bargaining chip to keep Jessica under control, and Jessica's claim that she is just out to protect Micah is now only so much crap. She's totally self-centered and doesn't care about anybody but herself. *shrug* That's what you get for being only half a personality.
4. Sylar
He really needs to collect Eden's power and get the heck out of Dodge.
This infantile psycho is the human equivalent of a hurricane--all destructive power just plodding on its own little course, oblivious to the world around it. He has no direction or true purpose other than collecting powers for the sake of collecting; that is more dangerous than his powers. He won't be more than a mid-range threat until he gets some purpose, because superior tactics will defeat superior power 99% of the time.
5. Lindermann
Is Mr. Mysterioso ever going to make an appearance, or what? Here's a hint: he isn't just a mobster.
*****
That's enough for now. More later.

It isn't moronic. It's hardcore. Its hardcore like the Punisher.
There are some powers that are more useful than others and most powered individuals have a weakness or fatal flaw of some sort which can be exploited. Sure, it is moronic to send an mundane with a gun against Superman, but it is just as moronic to send a pure psychometer against a mundane with a gun. And, if the dude with a gun has a chunk of krypotnite, watch out, he could potentially shoot Superman to death.
HRG has been at this a long time. He was probably involved in cold-war era CIA projects involving powered individuals back in the day. His experience and hardcority is what makes him a valuable team leader. Unfortunately, he is far less hardcore than he once was. His paternal instincts have been getting the better of him along with the convince of having the Hatian around. While he is focusing on Claire he's messing up other things very badly. Nathan is the most obvious example, he still hasn't been mindwiped. Ted is another example. He let that situation get out of control and Homeland Security could potentially stop being idiots and notice that Ted has a superpower. However, it is quite obvious that he has been slipping for a while. He relies on the Hatian's powers far too much. He is using a mindrape as a solution to every little problem. Just take away the offending memories. He is forgetting that there will be other little things, little scraps of evidence that can't be removed.
As he continues to abuse his position to "protect" Claire I think he will find himself locked into a spiral of failure and eventually will be forced to answer to his bosses, for everything.
I also think that it is quite probable that his bosses are exactly the people whom he is trying to protect Claire from. He hasn't chipped her or put her into their system and, all things being equal, they'd see her as a potential panacea such that learning the secret of human immortality is far more important that an single life. The good of the many vs the good of the few or the one, and all that. Weighing the harm caused by horrific medical experiments on a minor vs the good caused by ending all death and disease it would be a no-brainer for most individuals.
At the very least, they'd probably want to recruit her.
The Haitian seems to be HRG's subordinate. HRG gives the orders and he complies without question. I think that HRG is holding something over the Haitian's head, something so dangerous or so important that the Haitian can't move against him directly and must do his bidding. Worse, it is possible that HRG's bosses are holding something over the Haitian and they just assigned him to HRG. Perhaps the Haitain's family is being held hostage to secure his cooperation or the bosses have information that he doesn't want to be made public or he needs some sort of drug to control his powers. I don't thak he's answering to HRG's bosses in relation to Claire, though. If he were they'd send in a team to relieve HRG and force him to take a vacation before reassigning him if he is too valuable to mindwipe.
How did we know he was Haitian?
I mean from the info we got, the only indication was teddy and matt.
Call me crazy ( and i bet some will) but he looks like a guy. None specific.
How did they know he was haitian if he did not speak (accent) or was not wearing a name tag that said "kiss me! I'm Haitian!"?
I agree. Only a moron would go up against powered people if they did not have their own. I mean, i am not about to fight Dr. doom

"Then I shall call you Pip"
Yeah I agree as well. HRG must have some kind of power whether it's a super power or something else in order to face other heroes. Otherwise the haitan guy, for instance, could resist him anytime he wants and kill him. Although I know he wouldn't do that but still, HRG has some kind of power. It could even be a high political power. For example, he could be working for Linderman and he could be the vice president while Linderman being the president.

I dont think HRG has any kind of power. Have we seen HRG go up against a power person? No. He sent Eden and the Haitian to do it for him when it came to sylar. And we dont know if he was actially there when the whole claires real mom thing went down. Theres been no proof or example of him having powers. I think it'd be pretty lame for people that they've been establishing for a while without powers to just suddenly pop up with powers. They did it once with Eden, and it had a great effect to the story. But if they keep doing that, it gets lame. I dont know how HRG got involved with this line of work or who he works for, but im sure that will be revealed at somepoint along the lines.
As for the haitian, i do think he has his own agenda. And when he was talking to claire, he said he worked "FOR" her dad, not "WITH" her dad. I think thats something important. Does the Haitian knwo something HRG doesnt? probably, especially if he's letting claire keep her memory. Or were they run around orders from HRG's bosses directly to the haitian? Or was the haitian lying all together and HRG had no idea claires memory was supposed to be wiped?

The characters in the show tell us that he is Haitian. I still call him MBG because it takes fewer letters.

After careful consideration, I have concluded that you would win such an encounter. How could he resist you?

HOw did teddy and matt know he was haitian?
kinda like when nikki was talking to her friend and said 'her name is jessica'.
we didnt see how or when she learned that.
just random knowledge we are supposed to take as fact. and in this show that is a dangerous thing to do
I know exactly what you mean. People don't "look" Haitian, just like they don't "look" Swedish. *shrug* He didn't sound Haitian, either....
I can understand Niki knowing Jessica's name; oftentimes, dissociated personalities are aware of each other, even if only subconsciously. Sometimes they can meet each other in dreams.

Actually he does look haitian. Mostly. You can tell by looking a some people. I only know becasue I spent some time in haiti. It's hard to describe. He most definitely did not sound haitian, they tend to have fairly thick creole accents. But, if the show wants him to be haitian, I say let him be haitian. I think it's only used to identify him anyways, wo whether he is haitian or not really doesn't matter, it's just a name. And honestly, what's in a name?

Nothing. ford was merely noting that all of a sudden everyone is referring to MBG as "the Haitian", which seems to be a very recent development, only during the last two weeks or so.
