Many metahumans through the years have had emotional problems interfere with their powers. The mind is extremely powerful, you know.

It's bad enough that he can't properly control the tele- and time-porting; he might want to stick to his temporal stasis for now, it's useful enough.

Hiro has his destiny, but his destiny isn't exactly what he thinks it is. He can't be a Superman; he can't save everyone; and he can't force history to bend to his will. The harder he tries to control time and destiny the harder they fight back.
