ok, we know hes a deranged watch-maker, who could tell EXACTLY what was going on in watches.
we know he gained that fat guys powers after LOOKING at the brain with those super-magnifieing clock glasses.
we know he liked to read and look at pictures of brains...
so what if sylars power is that he can like, re-wire his brain? or mabey, see some one elses brain, and figure out what it is doing to make them (for example) be telepathic.
he DID make the comment ''your *brain* is broken...but i can fix that(!)''
then he bends down, and looks. so....mabey his power is, after seeing someones brain, he can tell how they do what they do, and then he re-wires his brain to be able to do it.
seems intresting enough- sorta like Peters power(s), except he gains their powers indefinately, and has to look at the brain...
and mabey he can tell who a hero is...just like he could tell if that watch was 'broken' or not, he can tell if a persons brain is 'broken' (powers) or not...
ideas(?)

Good call! I was thinking that he could see who is a hero and who isn't. Seems like he says in the Fallout preview that he can tell how things work. Kind of like super smart. Kind of like Heat Vision and Jack can figure anything out when the sun hits him.
Unless (for the sake of arguing) there was something "broken" in Jackies brain as well... not necessarily a mutant power; maybe something more mundane.

Or maybe he's just in a hurry, considering he broke into a high school to kill a girl and steal her brain...

Based on the evidence presented thus far, either Sylar has the ability to tell who is or is not a metahuman, he has the ability to immediately determine how something isn't working correctly as well as repair it, he has the ability to permanently copy someone else's power, or a combination of all of those.
I don't suspect he has the ability to detect metahumans. Even if he did, he wouldn't need it--Papa Suresh could detect them and he has Papa Suresh's list of names and locations.
I do suspect he can tell when something is broken, how it is broken, and how to fix it. No watchmaker, regardless of skill level, can tell that a watch is broken by simply looking at it for a couple of seconds. Regardless of what spoiler site might say "Sylar doesn't have any powers on his own", he does--the truth points to itself.
He must have the ability, somehow, to permanently copy other metahuman abilities. When being interviewed by Papa Suresh he demonstrated no abilities, but now Mr. Gray has evidenced cryokenisis and telekinesis. He must have copied Charlie's eidetic memory, but that wouldn't present itself unless you were in conversation with him.

I don't think Sylar is the one who can freeze. I think it's the little girl that can freeze. Sylar has had multiple times where it would have been useful to freeze someone (chasing after Claire is an example)
The only two times we have seen freezing, Sylar has been there...but so has the little girl. When the guy was frozen in the house, the little girl was hiding, and where the cop was frozen was also where the little girl was being held. That's not like a 100% confirmation, but if I was Sylar and I also had a freezing power there were a few more times that I would have busted it out. Therefore, little girl
