Default What is your Favorite Star Trek generation?

I've always been a big fan of ST:TNG, if only because it was of "my time"; although it was earlier, but I still consider it more "my time" than Voyager, which would TECHNICALLY be "of my time", but as we all know, VOYAGER kinda blows. What I loved most about TNG was their time travel stories. Nobody did time travel stories better than TNG. Bar none, the best written episodes of the whole series were all those stories.

Each generation had their own strengths...

TNG was excellent for their humor in the last few years. They knew each other so well and developed such great chemistry over the years it was a joy to watch. Picard was the best Captain and Riker was the best "Number 1"

Deep Space Nine was utterly horrible early, but once they started fighting the Dominion it was awesome! The battles and action were the best in DS9. Of course, it was a total rip-off of Babylon 5 (JMS who for years tried to sell his idea), but still it excelled in certain areas. Sisko could give Picard a run for his money, and the Cardassian tailor was a great character.

Voyager, when they got Seven of Nine, was the sexiest. Jerri Lee Ryan made that show, along with any episode with the Borg Queen (Or Species 8###)

The Original was amazingly ahead of its time. Since it had horrible special effects, it really relied on story telling. It tackled serious topics of the time, speciffically the White/Black episode. There was such a great philosophy in the show. It envisioned the flip cell-phone, the medical computer display, and so many things that inspired technological advancement. Plus, by having a black woman, an asian male, and a Russian (not really, the actor was born in Chicago - Go Bester!), the show was also socially advanced. It had the first inter-racial kiss on TV (I think). In certain ways, it was much, much more than a show.

Enterprise? - Well, it had a pretty decent Dr? Oh, and it had...erm...nooo.... Yeah, that's about it.

My deepest appreciation is for TNG, but DS9 and TO were pretty good in their own ways. Voyager was a decent watch now and then.

TOG was the best, hands down. 'Course, I watched it when it aired the first time, so I'm prejudiced. And old. :P

I watched TNG faithfully for 4 or 5 years, but the lack of conflict within the crew eventually got to me and I just couldn't watch it anymore. Still can't. I especially hate those long loving dramatic close-ups as they were breaking for commercial. Plus too much dependence on holodeck crap, although the Professor Moriarity one was superb. I generally don't want to watch a fictional show about characters pretending to be in a fictional environment.

DS9 was okay. I think I quit watching around the 5th year but I had missed episodes before then. Too much holodeck.

I almost quit watching Voyager but then they finally got rid of Kes who irritated me beyond all reason. I thought 7 of 9 was perfect for that show - it gave the captain an antagonist on the ship who wasn't part of the crew, at least at the beginning. And it was a battle of equals; it's always difficult to keep contests between the sexes even-handed without tilting towards too sexy or too abusive.

I watched Enterprise up until the captain got left in the future. Too much plot recycling from the previous shows. :? I've heard since that I quit too soon, that they got a new showrunner who took it to the next level, but I haven't had a chance to check out the DVDs.

I agree with Cabri (when don't I?), TOG was the best. They created sexual tension and racial tension and tension in general with words that is difficult to surpass.

Lil' Billy Shatner created a whole new acting style...which...I....love.....to.....watch.....som eone.....deliver.

I saw alot of the next gen and enjoyed it. I saw some of the one with the female captain, can't remember that one. Hated that they were stuck in the future or other dimension or whatever it was.

Saw a few DS9 that I enjoyed, but never really got the bug for. Never saw any of the last one, I think that it was on a channel that I don't get(imagine that!)

7/9 was by far the hottest character and Jeri Ryan still makes me think bad thoughts, but don't forget the captain Kirk's yeoman! She was pretty hot back then and about a dozen other women that wanted Kirk.

Nothing beats the first.

I also loved TNG. I watched a little of DS9, but that was it.

The original was fine and did push cultural/television boundaries, so I'm willing to overlook it's low-budget effects and plot holes.

TNG was acceptable, until it got too preachy.

DS9 was better and breathed new life into the series...for a while. Then I lost interest in it.

Voyager? What is this "Voyager"? I never bothered with it.

Enterprise? Whatever.

I don't have anything to do with Star Trek anymore. Give me Babylon 5 any time.

The original was the best...most innovative ideas and good storylines...and 95% of the "aliens" were humanoid and/or spoke english...

DS9 in my opinion is the best Star Trek. The Dominion wars, the defiant, Sisko. It was all great, more edgy that TNG, more original then Voyager and well lets be honest it could have been made with puppets and still easily surpass Enterprise. As to the original Trek, I was never a fan I must say, was before my time. TNG woke me to Star Trek and DS9 increased my enjoyment of the franchise exponentialy.

I watched the hell out of DS9 from the Dominion Wars to the romances. DS9 was unique so it kept my interest through the whole series. Avery Brooks character (Sisko) was such a strong, confident, lionhearted leader.
