Default Atlantis

Fact or Fiction?

I have been reading a fictional book called Atlantis recently and it was quite good imo, this has spurned me to check out this "myth" and see what I can come up with, there are just so many theories out there. Like the Atlantis was Antartica or Crete theories, theres the cities under the ocean in India etc. So anyone else have a view on this subject?

I firmly believe Atlantis existed, but I also believe in aliens, spirits, demons & fairies.

I too beleive in aliens or at least in the probability of thier existence, ghost / spirits may also exist but I dont think they are spiritual maybe on a different dimensional realm or something. My wife wholeheartedly believes in ghost but refuses to believe in aliens, weirdo :P

I tend towards Antarctica, but not with any of that weirdness about the entire crust of the planet shifting 90 degrees or whatever.

Antarctica is essentially equidistant from South America, Australia, Africa and the southern tip of India. This would allow for dissimination of technology in all directions, which we see as pyramids in many culture.

More compelling still is the Peri Reis map. This map has been authenticated date-wise (I belive 1516, but I may have to double-check). Its stereographic projection has been verified by satellite photos (the USAF did this, in fact) and shows the proper coastline of Antarctica as it exists under the ice. Notes on the map indicate that it was complied from "older sources".

I must say I like the Antartica idea which is why I thought the AVP film should have been good but wasnt, thats another thread entirely. Also havent the poles been gradualy shifting so wouldnt the ice caps have been in a different place giving Antartica a more temperate climate?

The poles do shift, but only due to the precession of the axis. It isn't as dramatic as some sources would claim, however.

Antarctica could indeed have a temperate climate if the average global temperature rises sufficiently to melt the ice. Although equitorial and current coastal regions would suffer, Antarctica would be perfect.
I suspect that, in millenia past, during previous warm periods that there was a civilization there, even if it only had Stone Age or Bronze Age technology.

Sounds a good theory to me, also didnt they recently discover humans were actually around upto 2 million years ago making the previous estimate of 600,000 years pale in significance. If the new estimates are true then its very probable that there was a civilisation that emerged way before and that we understand today. This time frame also gives the natural disaster or migratory theories of why Atlantis disapeared a much greater timescale in which to happen.

2 theories:

One was that atlantis was somewhere in the caribbean region. From aerial views they have discoverd roads made of stone streching for miles under the water. They have no other explanation of this. (The mayans may be blamed for this, but carbon dating seemed to be off by a bit. Cant remember how much)

Two, the funniest thing about languages! Old text by Homer, the only author i believe to have claimed to have actually seen atlantis.
One of the words used to describe atlantis in greek means 'in between' and the phoenician meaning was 'bigger than'.
So atlantiologists ( i think i made that up) say it is either 'bigger than' egypt, or "in between" eygpt.

There was more to it. If you can find the program it was on the discovery channel awhile back.
