Super powers housed in the brain ... Justificaiton
Claire get's stabbed in the head.
As a result she ends up dead. "really" dead. Dead long enough to have been dumped in a stream, dragged, and stripped. And the coroner cuts her up, etc like in a normal autopsy.
as soon as she pulls out the stick lodged in her brain, claire starts regenerating.
I think this is why syler want's peoples brains.
this is how he's getting everyone's powers (already can regenerate, fly, control other peoples movements).
he's stealing whatever it is in their brains thats turning them into super heros.
But if he's able to do all these things... why does he fly away... rather than confronting Matt and his ability. And if he wanted to kill the girl... why didn't he just do so? I feel there's too many unanswered questions to determine his true abilities at this moment.

Simple. He had his reasons.
perhaps:
he was their for the girl, the girl was found and he had to slip away into the darkness in order to stay under the radar.
we don't know what power he has, but we know he takes the brains of his victims...
Sounds plausible about the powers residing in the brain and totally explains why Claire doesn't regenerate until after the stick is removed.
I also beleive Sylar is absorbing the powers of others.
If he was to absorb the cheerleaders powers, he would become virtually indestructible, so maybe that's what the "save the cheerleader, save the world" thing means, not that she is going to save the world, but by not allowing him to absorb her powers, the rest of the "heroes" have a chance to kill him.

i don't think Sylar has anything to do with the nuclear holocaust that is on it's way. I think he just is an evil person who has found he has these powers and is using them to kill people etc. I'm still not sure why he steals the brains, but i highly doubt he eats them. This isn't a zombie show.
I think that she can't heal unless whatever causes the damage is removed. Like in the first epi where she jumped and had broken ribs hanging out, she had to push them back in for her to be able to heal.
I also don't think that Sylar is involved in Matt's situation. The little girls dad was frozen solid and brainless sitting at the table. So it seems if he first kidnaps his victims to study their brains, he would have just killed him when he had him.
In this week’s episode, Claire Bennet presumably died until the wood was removed from her head. Was she indeed dead?
Tim King: It’s safe to assume that whatever power Claire has, eminates from the brain (turned on and off by a switch). There is a clue there as to why the major villain of the show is interested in brains.
