I Believe that we have already met Syler and he is Claire's Dad.....
Here are my thoughts....
Syler has the ability to absorb the powers of others by eating their brains...
He spoke of his hunger and blamed the professor for being responsible for his actions...
The professor opened his eyes to what he can do and now he can't stop.

I believe the murder scene that we saw in episode 2 were Claire's biological parents. Claire's Dad went to visit them, froze her father (since he must have eaten Iceman's brain or something) and ate his brain, going to have to watch the episode again to see if the mother's brain was eaten but if it wasn't maybe she didn't have any special powers...

Now, due to his ominous comment after talking with Claire he knows that eventually he is going to have to eat her brain because she has the greatest power of all: invincibility.

I think it makes sense...

Good theory. I was thinking that her dad was kind of a red herring. I think he's really a Fox Moulder-like character searching for the "Heroes" for the CIA, FBI, or a secret government agency. He seemed to be in India when the professor was killed, then went to New York. If he killed the professor in New York, it is odd to me that he would then go to India.

It's doubtful Claire's dad is also Sylar. Kring is setting up multiple storylines here; the father and the "group" (government, private cabal, etc) that are monitoring/after the superpowered people, and Sylar, who will only be in the show for season 1. Claire's Dad will be here for a long time.

I agree with you. I was not not thinking long term, as in over the period of several seasons. That makes perfect sense.
