Default Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man!

Jon Favreau has finally found the actor who will be playing Tony Stark. The announcement was made a few days ago. Personally, I think Robert Downey Jr. will do fine as Iron Man. They might've been able to do better, but he's still a good actor. What do you guys think?

He is the right age for the part and an excellent actor.

He will do great. I am more worried about script problems.

Is he out of jail or rehab or both now? He has had a tough go of it over the last few years.

I would not have chosen Downey, myself. I can think of at least three others who would have done a better job: Clive Owen, Michael Weiss (maybe slightly too old, but believable), and Adam Sandler (I can't believe that one, but he could pull it off). There are others (like David Schwimmer and Ben Stiller) whom I ruled out for one reason or another.

schwimmer and stiller? Ok they have dark hair, but that is about it. Schwimmer couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag with a knife and stiller, while hysterical, would never be taken with any sort of seriousness. Clive owen a good actor, but he really couldn't be the Iron Man. I think Sandler is a better choice now that he has moved into more serious roles, but it may be to soon for him to do a comic book movie and not give the perception of comicbookness (to make up my own word).

Despite his current lunatic streak, Tom Cruise was always, and will always be, the perfect choice for this role.

Tom Cruise would probably be a decent acting choice, but because of his recent silliness I would be wary of having him star. Robert Downey Jr. is a great actor when he's on, but when he's going bad it ruins everything. Since he has gone through trials and tribulations Downey Jr. has a lot of knowledge in playing that sort of role realistically. In the end it will probably be an excellent choice as long as Jr. stays clean. I think he's a bit old, especially if they are planning on a sequel involving his decay into the bottle, but oh well. Micheal T. Weiss IMO would be a perfect choice except for the possible age factor as well. In the end, it could very well be a movie worthy of seeing in the theaters.

I would've loved to see Tom Cruise in this role, but I'm content with Downey. Besides, I'd probably watch the movie no matter who played the lead role.

It should definitely be fun if they don't screw up the armor. That's all I'm worried about, the armor. Casting wise, I suppose it doesn't really matter, much like Fantastic Four. Speaking of which, I can't believe they're doing a Silver Surfer story arc. I didn't think it was possible to have the Surfer on the big screen. How will they do it??? What about his, er, package? (or lack thereof?)
