Heroestheseries.com – how to do stuff! - Instead of posting all of these long, wordy explanations I have decided to use my new-found ability to link to the particular post I have tried to help solve certain problems. Many of these problems/questions are addressed in the
FAQ link at the top left of the forum screen. If a specific question is asked, or further clarification is wanted, this is the place where those questions are discussed.
Where is the edit button? This question was asked in the previous forum set-up, and now the edit button is pretty big so hopefully everyone can see it. It looks like this -->

and the button is in relation to other buttons in a picture further down in this post.
How can I tell which threads have unread posts? First, threads are bolded with new posts. 2nd, Currently 2 images to the left of the screen of the thread name signify new posts:

represents threads with new posts
and having a certain bountiful number of replies.

How do I edit my profile, my options, and reach my Control Panel where I can also change other things? The picture in that post is slightly outdated, but every button/link is in the same position on the forum page. In other words, ignore the background, everything else is the same.

Edit Profile (Link HERE) --> These past 2 links only work if you are signed into the forum for obvious reasons.

How to link to a particular post in a thread: (For linking to posts made in other threads, or for giving easy access to fan fic chapters)
Easy and quick way to link to a thread
Easy and quick way to link to a post Every post and thread have a specific number attached to it, so one can use the specific "post" and "thread" codes which I'll go into deeper detail now...
Okay, say I want to link my fanfic in different thread. First, I find my fanfic titled
Heroes, Matt of LAPD (Greg Grunberg): Now, I could link it one of 3 different ways. The longest way would be to do this: [url=http://www.heroestheseries.com/vb/showthread.php?t=883] Heroes, Matt of LAPD (Greg Grunberg): [/url] However, with the thread code now, instead of pasting the entire link "http://www.heroestheseries.com/vb/showthread.php?t=883" like so, all I really need is to take that last number 883 - signifying the number of the thread made in the forum - remove it and put it in the thread code. How? It's the same basic principle: [thread=883] Heroes, Matt of LAPD (Greg Grunberg): [/thread] (which gives me
Heroes, Matt of LAPD (Greg Grunberg): ) Notice how thread=883 is inside of the brackets? That is where is should be, if you want the link to have a title. If you don't care about a title, then you can arrange it like so: [thread]883[/thread] However, with this once it gets posted, it will show up as just the entire link: [url]http://www.heroestheseries.com/vb/showthread.php?t=883[/url] But, I said there were 3 different ways? What's the last one? using the "post" code. It is used exactly like the thread code, except the post number is a little different. How do I find the post number? That's a good question. Take a look at the next picture, which sports the # 2 on one of my posts. Yet, that isn't the
true post number!!!!

Note: Some of those little buttons are only accessible to Moderators. Please don't flip out if you can't see them on your forum
The # 2
only signifies the number of the post
in relation to that thread The
TRUE post number is the number of the post
in relation to the forum. How do we find that? Well, we take the mouse/cursor and hover it over that # 2, much like what that yellow arrow in the above pic is
almost doing. We can either click on that number, which will send us to that post seperate from the thread its in, or we can continue to hover over the # 2 and recognize that in the lower left-hand corner of the window (At least for Mozilla Firefox web browser) we see this picture below:
The
TRUE post number
in relation to the forum is listed as
13654
So, now that I know how to get the true post number, I can apply that to link up my fanfic thread and it's various chapters:
Heroes, Matt of LAPD (Greg Grunberg):
Part 1: A Normal Day
Part 2: Talk with the Chief
Part 3: A new dilemma
Part 4: A talk with the missus
Part 5: Matt faces 2 new foes (Finally!)
Part 6: The long Goodbye…
If you want to see how I coded that, then look below...
[b]Heroes, Matt of LAPD (Greg Grunberg):[/b]
[post=10734] Part 1: A Normal Day[/post]
[post=10771] Part 2: Talk with the Chief [/post]
[post=10813] Part 3: A new dilemma [/post]
[post=10872] Part 4: A talk with the missus [/post]
[post=10914] Part 5: Matt faces 2 new foes (Finally!) [/post]
[post=11380] Part 6: The long Goodbye… [/post]
Okay, Every time I re-edit this post, the "noparse" code I am using to explain some things is making some things wacky, so if it seems like something isn't making sense PM me or post in this thread and I will take more drastic measures to explain things. The major problem is that the problem doesn't show up in the edit box, only when it finally posts does a problem arise.
