Although I did like the episode last night and am sure this will be big hit, the beginning really disappointed me. I'm talking about when Mohinder Suresh was teaching his class and made the statement "that we only use 10% of our brains." So the writers are trying to say the other 90% is waking up and giving the powers to these people? The whole 10% thing is a myth and can be verified with a Google search.
Good post! I especially loved the "Neuroscience for Kids" google hit. Too bad writers sometimes have less than a "childlike" intelligence of science. Although, they do have researchers that should've caught that so it isn't entirely the writer's fault. I myself can't profess to be much of a science wizard. BTW, funny username!

Problem is my words would be woefully inadequate to express the wonder, beauty, and majesty of ford prefect.

His brain isn't his commanding officer - Lois Lane in Season 5 of Smallville
It is a good way for the show to get going. I mean, why would they have his speach include:
"The ten percent of the brain thing is a myth. The truth is our brains are getting bigger, and will eventually grow into huge massive craniums. At that time, our human abilities will become obsolite." (sp?)
Ahh... I don't know... I mean this show is trying to appeal to a massive audience. So it makes sence to dumb it up (so to speak) for a larger audience so everyone can be on the same page.
Yea I get what you're sayin'. It just always seems to work better when you're trying to make something unbelievable, believable buy intoducing it with something from actual reality. Perfect example is Jurassic Park. Cloning was believable because it has actually been done in real life.
Was just hoping some reality was going to be injected to explain where the characters got they're powers from. But I guess the 10% reference does work since it's so widely believed. I'm mean up until a couple years ago, I believed the same thing.
I'm sure the show will be great regardless though.
