All About The ShowFor all news, stories, and discusions concerning the show. DO NOT: I REPEAT, DO NOT: MAKE THREADS ABOUT SPECIFIC EPISODES HERE. THERE IS A SEPARATE (BELOW) FORUM FOR THAT.
Very soon, we plan on starting a contest over at Heroes Media. The winner will win Heroes-related prizes, including a full set of the Heroes buttons from Comic-Con 2006 (including Uluru!)
But before the contest starts, we need some help with the contest guidelines. The prizes will go to the person who contributes the most to the site (namely, sending us Heroes-related pictures).
Here's the catch though: clearly, it's easier to find pictures for some actors as opposed to the others. We've found from experience that Hayden and Ali are particularly well-covered, while others like Masi and Tawny aren't nearly so famous. So to keep things interesting, we want to award points depending on the type of photo submitted. So it would look something like this:
Ali Larter: 1 point
Greg Grunberg: 3 Points
Leonard Roberts: 8 Points
Masi Oka: 15 points
... and so on
This is where we need help from our fellow Heroes fans. How many points should each category be worth? Are we forgetting any category? How long should the contest go for?
All of your input would be greatly appreciated. We want this contest to be fun for all involved!
NOTE: The current categories are: Heroes Promos, Prop and Set Photos, Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, James Kyson Lee, Leonard Roberts, Milo Ventimiglia, Noah Gray-Cabey, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Tawny Cypress, Santiago Cabrera, Masi Oka, and Jack Coleman.[/i]
I think all categories should recieve the same/equal points as all the rest............because to say one category is more covered than any other and cause hysteria over trying to find the HIGH POINT categories to win the contest is discremination and it also than makes the HIGH POINT categories to become OVERYLY covered!!

We certainly see your point. There were two reasosns I considered doing a point-based system. For starters, it will reward those who dig a little deeper and find something a little more obscure, rather than copying and sending us the entire gallery from AliLarterFan. I'm sure Gwen wouldn't appreciate that either. :P
Second, we've received a lot of emails asking for more from the lesser-know characters, and right now we've got so little to provide them.
I don't think any character can be covered too much, but it will help bring balance to the site. But these are just my thoughts, if a majority of people don't want to do points, we're willing to consider switching it up! We certainly don't mean to imply that any character is more important than others. :P

I think your point system has value. I have been searching for cast member pics and it is easy to find pics of the two named actors and much more difficult to locate pics of the others. It wouldn't be much fun if like you said someone posted 900 ali larter pics that are available to everyone. How would someone compete with that in any other category? You could make the ali and hayden categories have extra points for obscure pics of which I have found a few.
As for additional categories perhaps most original theory or silliest theory. My wife belongs to one of the large lost forums and they have awards each hiatus that relates to the quality and originality of the posters. You might consider something like that.

I too believe the point system is the way to go. Trust me, it ain't easy finding pics of Noah Gray-Cabey. I think all of my Heroes avatars came from pics *cough* borrowed *cough* from your site. I tried looking for other Tawny Cypress and Noah pics, but had a difficult time.
The idea for extra points for obscure pics of Hayden or Ali would actually increase difficulty on point keeping, leaving it up to someone's own judgement to decide which Ali pics get more points. Someone who didn't win the contest would always cry "foul" because the judger didn't agree with their assesment. That wouldn't be fun for anyone.

tobnameless - excellent ideas on the extra categories! For the most original theory and the silliest theory, we could actually narrow it down to 5 or so and open the polls on the forums to see what ya'll have to say.
Super Ordinary Guy - we agree with you... we can't in good faith be a judge for which pics are uncommon and which arn't. I think it'd leave a lot of people disgruntled.
We talked the system over some more, and we're thinking of not allowing screen captures because somebody could rent "Along Came Polly" and give us 50 capture for the 5 seconds Masi's on the stage.

what about having polls on the best pics and let people vote. you should be able to limit their ability to vote more than once. then it isn't about the judging and it is about the judgement of the polsters.
