Default Sig pics/banners?

I was just wondering what the sig rules are for signature pictures (sig pics or banners). Are we allowed to have them? I know the total amount of characters allowed in the signature is 255. But if we are allowed to have a sig pic, what is the pixel length allotted to us and what is the total amount of Kb allotted as well? I checked the FAQ and Profile to answer this, but was unable to quench my curiosity. It probably would be wise to answer this now before the series starts and we get hot and heavy with bustling crowds of new members.

If we're allowed sig pics...

Pixel size possibilities
400 X 200 - a few forums use this
500 X 200 -
700 X 200 - Gateworld uses this, but for those of us with the slowest possible form of dial up we would need an option button to disallow viewing of sigs (Work, work, work...) IMHO 700 X 200 is too big

Kb size is also a very important thing to think about, but I don't pay enough attention to this tidbit of info. Obviously a 2 GB sig would really, really, really slow up loading times so something under that would be preferable...

Anyway, I just wanted to start a healthy conversation as to what preferences people had in terms of sigs.

Sigs shouldn't be TOO big, as it would mean a lot of load time for those with low internet connection. Is anyone here with dial up?

Default Me! Me! Me!

Yep, that would be me.

After checking all of the forums I frequent (4 including this one), the only one I know of that limits file size is GateWorld Forum. They have the banner file size limit at 50 Kb. I don’t know how that will suit our needs, but I am going to use that as a general reference right now. I should be uploading a sig that is about 46 Kb or so. Let me know if that is too big… (In terms of file size, it should be fine pixel-wise)

If the one that you are using is 46k I think that is fine. Even slightly bigger wouldn't be bad. Of course I am not on dial up and we are still realtively low volume so I don't see lag time. However, once the show starts and we double or triple in size in a short amount of time things could change. I have been on forums where the sig size seems unlimited and it really isn't fun watching a mile long sig load.

I think our current crew are very responcible and would keep us informed if someone made a sig that was huge.
