Hey all, I need a hug. Sci-Fi channel has just confirmed that they are canning Stargate SG-1 (They aren't renewing it for an 11th season, but I believe that they will get to finish out the 10th season). This news after they just aired the record-breaking 200th episode! (Kinda mean if you ask me...) The only good news is that Stargate Atlantis will be renewed for a fourth season.

Even worse, they told the cast/crew about it right before they aired the 200th. Those meanies!!!
I'm going to miss this show, but I'm not going to miss the last couple seasons. Despite Ben and Claudia, the big bad was a big bore and there weren't enough funny epis. They're talking about figuring out how to extend the show, probably meaning a movie. If they do a movie, it'll have to have RDA in it, I won't watch it without. And then maybe after a couple years they'll figure out a new angle and start another new show. BUT ENOUGH WITH THE FRAKKIN' ORI!!!!!

Ok is it just me or are there a lot of mysterious abreviations in that post? I like the show although I almost never get to watch it. I don't get that channel and the reruns are on a time when I cant watch it. Boo!
epis: episodes
RDA: Richard Dean Anderson (played Jack O'Neill in it)
Ori: Not an abbreviation, it's the name of the big bads right now. Pronounced Oh-Rye.
So not a whole lot. *shrug*

Ok I am with you now. epis I figured out. RDA went right past me and as I said I hardly ever get to see the show and when I do it is a rerun so I didn't know about the current bad guys.
My bad. Maybe I should read wiki sometime to stay up to date?
MGM spokesman Jeff Pryor told Multichannel News. "It is our intention to vigorously find a way to extend the franchise." <snip> "There is not going to be [an 11th season] on U.S. television," Mark Stern, SCI FI's executive vice president of programming, told Multichannel flatly. "Our contract with MGM prohibits it." <snip> He added that the network "would look for opportunities for some or all of the members to appear on Atlantis." <snip> SCI FI would be interested in more Stargate SG-1 "if MGM came to us for less," Stern said -- indicating that the licensing fee for the 10-year-old show may have played a significant role in the network's decision not to renew it. <snip> Some fans have speculated that MGM may hope to make Stargate SG-1's eleventh season the first show ever to be offered exclusively online. <snip> Despite the show's lower ratings, nearly 2 million viewers still tune in to the venerable sci-fi hit. The show also airs to millions of viewers in 120 countries worldwide, earns the company extra money in U.S. syndication and on DVD, and supports fan conventions and a broad array of licensed merchanise.
Apparently, licensing fees increase every year for a series, so SG-1's fees were much greater than Atlantis's. This may have led Sci-Fi to cancel it, while also opposing the series to move to another channel. With the amount of viewers that tune in to the series outside the USA, it would be amazing if the SG-1 universe just ended...

I never understood why they had two shows from the same universe on the same time. It probably cost them a ton of money since Atlantis needed whole new sets and whole new everything. (the look and all was different from sg1) I always thought they were going to end SG1 after Atlantis' first year but they must hve realized SG1 was still getting decent ratings and so kept it on.
by the way, have you heard? The Sci Fi Channel is changing their name to something else. Surge TV I think. Makes sense, since they BARELY do any Sci Fi stuff anymore anyway.
