User Avatar Options are Now Available

By Sam | February 18, 2008 (7:10 pm)

Just a quick note to let all our users know that we’ve installed an avatar (gravatar) system that allows our registered users to use avatars that will show up next to all their comments. This should be something of great interest to those of you who are our regulars, and has used such an avatar system before on other sites.

Here’s how it works:

You can upload your avatar using two methods: go to your user CP and input the URL for your avatar, and load it into our local server, or you can sign up with gravatar.com, which basically involves clicking on the default avatar next to your post and signing up.

Or, if you don’t feel like using an avatar, you are free to continue using the default version that will pop up with all your posts. This is just something I installed on the site to give comments a little personality. It isn’t mandatory that you use an avatar, but you now have the option to do so if you wish.

Right now, I am going to allow users to upload any image they want — within reason. Re: no pornography or anything offensive.

P.S. I am just installing the system for the first time, so if there are bugs, please email me at sam@heroestheseries.com.

Thanks.

Update

I’m having issues with Gravatar so I’m shutting down the plug-in for a while until I can figure it out, or get it to work better.

This is an example of an avatar next to your comment. Notice my avatar is a Spidey pic. You can choose your own by uploading it to our server or signing up with gravatar.com. Either way, it’s free, and up to you.
