Tim Kring Talks More About Heroes: Origins

By Sam | May 23, 2007 (2:57 am) | More: Crew: Tim Kring (Producer/Creator), Heroes: Origins Spin-Off News

After the Heroes finaled aired on Monday, show creator Tim Kring was online chatting with fans and answering questions. Among the many things he was asked was about the upcoming Heroes: Origins spin-off show, and what it would be about. According to Kring, the show would not necessarily have cause-and-effect with the regular show, but that “sharp-eyed fans will be able to spot connections that link the two series together.”

More of what Kring said:

“The idea [of Heroes: Origins] was to try to do about half a dozen episodes that are stand-alone episodes, dealing with the origin stories of characters all around the world who are waking up with the discovery of these unique abilities,” Kring wrote in the official Heroes blog.

Kring revealed the stories told in Origins will not be related directly to the characters in Heroes, but that sharp-eyed fans will be able to spot connections that link the two series together.

Kring also warned fans not to expect Origins to follow the formula set by Heroes, explaining that the spin-off will have a style similar to The Twilight Zone, telling “cautionary tales and morality tales”.

Curious that he compared it to “The Twilight Zone” in style. I guess it’s appropriate: new characters every episode, more of an anthology narrative.

What do you guys think?

  1. Awesome, so we’re gonna be watching Origins and Generations :D I couldn’t ask for more

  2. Apparently they are going to use the Origins episodes as something to keep us busy during the second season’s mid-season break, no more mid-season break suffering \o/

  3. I’m actually pretty excited for this. It sounds awesome!

  4. I though Origins is supposed to happen during the summer brake, just before the second season Heroes: Generations starts.

The idea behind it is nice, you got a very interesting universe with a myriad of possible characters, they’ll get some screen time and I believe the most popular ones would be extended to the 2nd season.

  5. I am so EXCITED! I can’t wait for “Origins”…I love this show more than it is healthy…lol…

  6. this wont be a good idea if it becomes like the twilight zone. it will turn many fans away from it and no one will watch it

  7. I think it’s a great idea, as it’ll help to flesh out the world that our Heroes are living in. It’s nice to see things from the eyes of everyday people rather than just from our main characters, just so we know exactly what kind of world our main characters really are in (how much do they see as hopeful that the rest of the world sees as horrible, and vice versa?)

  8. Thursday’s exciting news

  9. I think I also read that Origins will be the filler for the mid-season break.

What would be awesome for the summer is a handful of shows focusing on existing characters that were somewhat minor, like Claude, Claire’s real mother Meredith Gordon, Some of the people Sylar killed to get their powers, the Haitian, Ted Sprague. You could even sprinkle in cool arcs like How DL and Niki committed crimes for Linderman. Just single episode stuff with no continuations or connections, because that’s the biggest problem with summer shows, people are not glued to their TVs, they take vacations. That’s why most shows are on during school years and why we have shows stop during Spring Break.

  10. Great! I’d love to see it. I also read somewhere that they’ll be introducing a new character for every episode of Heroes: Origins (total of 6 people) and that we’ll vote which character will join Peter, Hiro & Co.

    Interesting!

  11. i’m soooo exctited….i have even seen the finale…:(:(:(:(:(:(:(…I just hope ORIGINS is taken well by the audience..

  12.
