Spoilers for Next Week’s Dying of the Light

By Sam | October 14, 2008 (1:21 pm)

Uh oh. Kristin over at E! Online has once again put out a list of things to expect from next week’s episode, “Dying of the Light”, and they involve a couple of deaths by our Heroes. Real, never-to-come-back deaths, apparently. (Then again, this is Heroes, and who really dies on this show, really?) But according to Kristin, these deaths will be “real”, in the sense that they aren’t gimmick deaths (kinda like Ando’s?), but I’ll believe it when I see it. As always, do not read on unless you with to know.

From Kristin over at E! Online:

A Hero Is Going Six Feet Under! And I think most of you will be OK with who this soon-to-be-dead hero is. She (yes, she) has been grating on my nerves personally since day one of this-here season three. (Mostly because I want her off of my hot specimen of a former human.) Is that too obvious? Whoopsie!

A Villain Is Going Six Feet Under! And the real crime? Poor fella just got out of there…Yes, a villain you and I both love is going down next week, and once he’s gone, he’s not coming back. Sadness.

Mohinder Goes From Bad to Worse: No one knows what he plans to do with those cocoons, but he wants to add two more—he’s thinking of putting in a Nathan-Tracy duplex. Ruh-roh.

Claire Discovers Why She’s Special: Remember when Uncle Sylar cut off the top of her head and told her she was “different”? Before too long we will learn why and how that special-differentness came to be, and you will not be surprised to learn that the reason has everything to do with Grandma Angela, Grandpa Arthur and the whole previous corrupt generation of Heroes. (Think back to when Kaito Nakamura handed off Baby Claire to HRG.)

I haven’t a clue what she means by the Claire is special paragraph, but the first two seems obvious: Maya and Adam Monroe are going to die in “Dying of the Light”.

I’m kind of surprise about Maya, since she was starting to grow on me (or at least, she’s not nearly as annoying now), but killing off Adam Monroe would seem to be kind of hard, unless they slice off his head, which I believe is the only way to do it. Then again, Adam Monroe has the makings of a pretty formidable villain for Hiro, so would they really kill him off … permanently?

But then again, this is Heroes, and who really stays dead on this show…?

I hope Maya actually dies.. lol. Also, I have no feelings for Adam. I neither hate nor like him. I dunno how they’re going to kill him though. It should clear up some questions in doing so though.

Also, I knew it was Claire that was the Light. lol. When Kaito said that “The Light” had to be protected, it was definitely Claire. “Save the cheerleader, save the world” is definitely going to come back.

I completely agree. “Save the cheerleader, save the world” is in my opinion one of most clever taglines. I’m pretty sure that part of heroes isn’t over yet. I have a feeling that in the end Claire’s life will have a much larger role in saving the world..

…and MAYA?! what!? nooo I too was actually starting to warm up to her..and am I the only one that thinks she has HUGE potential for villain status OR bad A hero status?? Her ability just seems too large for the heroes universe to just kill her off so soon. Personally I think Mohindersaurus Rex should be the one to get the boot..his story just seems to be going nowhere…he failed at the formula and turned himself into a deteriorating bug/reptile thing. End of story?

I hope its true that maya dies. I never liked her, not in season 2, and not now. She gets in the way of everything, and her character has no interesting storylines. But I don’t want Adam to die!! I really liked his character, and I though they could take him in an interesting direction!

Jenna on October 14, 2008

Personally, I think the Mohinder storyline is getting really interesting. Just like Dr. Conners/Lizard! Mohinder WAS my fave character without abilities, and now he’s going to be a reluctant, reclusive villain?! Sweet, I’ll go with that. :D

I agree that Maya was VERY low on my fave character list during Season 2. Then again, what was all that great during S2, except introducing Adam? Then “Mayinder” came along, and, well.. I did start to like Maya a little bit. It would be an interesting twist if they recruited her for Pinehearst LOL. That’s wicked :D. Unfortunately, looks like she’ll be gone next week (3×06). Nooo!! They had a lot of potential w/ her storyline (ex. fight claire??).

And Adam’s gone again?? Grrr… he’s my fave villain LOL. But I must say, Sylar/Gabriel “rehabbing” is the coolest ever. I love plot twists like that. Saving Claire 2 weeks after almost killing her?? Sylar saving Angela from Peter?! Too cool. :) Ok, I’ve put enough to fill this whole page now LOL.

well, i believe it was leaked somewhere that papa patrelli’s power was the ability to remove others abilities… aka make special people not special.

if thats the case, it would explain why maury is so scared of him. and why in angela’s dream of a “possible” future all our ‘good-guy’ heroes get killed, by lets face it second rate super-humans.

maya dying… thats good she hasnt really added anything to the show. we need a PERMANENT death. it’ll be good, let the bloodbath continue.

adam monroe dying, ugh… hes such an interesting character,..no so much a villian as an extremely misguided anti-hero. my guess is papa petrelli uses his power to take away his ability to heal and has him offed as a threat. thats how he’ll die.

if that is papa patrellis power… we NEED the haitian NOW! where is he???

and where is elle, this whole time. they better come up with a good side story for her.

i also agree, claire is the ‘light’ and is key to saving the world

If it’s Meredith then why did they mention that the person to be killed has hooked up with someone who used to be normal? That’s not Meredith, she kissed Doyle but that’s hardly hooking up. It’s clearly Maya, and I’m glad as it would appear the writers have been listening (finally!), now to get them to return Monica and I’ll be somewhat happy again.

Meredith “hooked up” with Nathan to make Claire. We just found out that Nathan used to be normal…

That’s just rooting, she’s not ‘been on’ (as Kristin put it she wanted ‘her off of my hot specimen of a former human’) seemingly since shortly after Claire was born. Meredith hasn’t seen Nathan since series one (or at least we’ve been led to believe that so it wouldn’t have bothered Kristin).
If they were talking about Nathan they’d be more likely to be annoyed with Tracy as she’s the one currently buffing the hunk. I don’t think it’s Meredith (that’s not to say I necessarily think Meredith is going to survive this season, that Doyle guy is extremely creepy and the promo is hinting Claire will perhaps shoot someone and Sandra will survive to the following week, as has been seen in photos, so it can’t be her), it’s so clearly Maya and I for one am thrilled with the news, she adds nothing to the show except boobs.

not taking away powers like the haitians abilities to negate powers… take away, permanently. and just like any one elses ability it only ‘turns on’ when he wants it to.

hes allowing maury to keep his powers so he can talk to him.

It really sucks that Mia is going to kick the bucket, She finally stopped whinning about her power and had a chance to start kicking some butt!! Plus she is super HOT!!! I really like that this season were seeing new sides of Peter and Sylar!! Pretty cool that they are still polar opposites!! If Sylar has a hint of good then Peter must show a darker side! If they were a team they would be unstoppable, But its their destiny to always be against each other! Very cool!!

I wish i could create a story like this but im doomed to deal with writing simple stories that might not even get published…..
I am SO crushing on the good cop bad cop thing going on with sylar!!!! whose the mom to his kid tho? or does he adopt????
Peter is sooo evil right now but i guarantee he’ll eventually join sides with sylar it would make the show that much better if maybe they ganged up to save angela…….

the phenomenologist on October 15, 2008

a few thoughts :

first, if arthur’s power is to remove others’ powers, then that would be a genetic link with both peter (who absorbs powers) and sylar (who understands them). i think that for the “pure bloods,” i.e., those who natively and genetically have powers, there are a finite number of mutations that themselves vary in degree from person to person (maury, angela, claude deveraux are all telepaths of a sort, while claire, adam, linderman all have a form of healing, and elle, meredith, and radiation guy are all conductors, etc.). this might me that arthur and the haitian could be subractors or negators or some such. synthetic powers are more diverse, perhaps, and less stable, less controllable.

however, second, i’m not sure that being a subtractor is arthur’s power. remember in the graphic novel, the war buddies series, that arthur was noted to always have good luck and to beat the odds, and later linderman noted to nathan that papa petrelli was a very powerful man. i think arthur’s power is something like being able to manipulate chance or to understand causality or envision all possible outcomes, and he doesn’t have to use strings to do it–he can beat the odds because he can understand and control probability, just like his son sylar can understand and manipulate mechanism and causality.

now either way, if you think about his dna mingling with angela’s, then both peter and sylar sort of make sense (assuming of course that one or either of them is actually a petrelli and not, say, a linderman). and if you think about arthur and angela playing on the same team along with linderman and the rest of the company, then you can see why they would be such a powerful couple.

so that begs the more important question. long ago nathan said that his father had always fought against linderman, and then papa petrelli “dies” mysteriously, and angela implants the memory of a desperate suicidal schizophrenic in the minds of her sons. angela and linderman were obviously conspiring against arthur, and he against them. something happened in that bizarre love triangle, and it has to do with the company decision to separate the formula. we still have a lot to learn about the company, its founding, its relation to adam, and this schism …

the end.

Sorry guys, its not Meredith, its definitely Maya who’s dying. Kristin gives it away when she talks of the dying character having “her hands all over” a not-so-human cast member. It can’t be anyone but Maya unless the spoiler is completely wrong. As far as being teased before the season that Maya and her power would play a bigger role in things, either her death is a catalyst for something big, or whatever plans they had for her were scrapped.

If Arthur Petrelli’s power is to remove power from the Heroes, wouldn’t it be so ironic that he is the founder of the company that will provide powers to normal human beings?

I’m hoping as the episodes develop that he reveals the true extent of his powers. Something sinister and truly gruesome that no Petrelli bloodline can match.

Regarding the possible death of Maya, I think she has an awesome ability. It’s a shame her character just never caught on with the fans. I just pray that whoever tTim Kring and the writers decide to kill, remains dead.

Well what everyone has said has really been interesting. Now here is a thought for ya. Is it possible that Adam is the reason for most all these Heroes walking around now. I only say this because he is the oldest natural born person with special powers (that we know of). Lets face it, he does love to get drunk and also get freaky with the ladies. I mean 400 years is a long time. Think how many people he could have knocked up in that amount of time. Its very possible that Adam is Papa Petrelli’s great, great, great, great, great, great, great, grandpa. A little food for thought there. At any rate if he does die I will miss him he has grown on me. He is funny as hell and is super smart.

As for Mya she is fine as hell, with a weird power that I never understood. I mean her eyes turn black and kills everyone around her. Its kinda a lame power, but if it evolved she could target and just kill anyone she wanted no problem even Clair. Its true though she has no story this season other than to be hot and get done by the Doc. So it doesn’t surprise me at all they would have done this.

One more thought for ya. Since peter met his future self he absorbed 4 years worth powers from him including putting himself in someones body and other things only writers can imagine. I hope they play off that. Plus WTF there are tons of times peter could have just made himself invisable and get away from trouble and be sneaky like Claude but I guess the all powerful peter has to be somewhat dumb of his powers otherwise whats the show for its his weakness…..until sylar

Papa Petrelli has alot to bring to this season, least explain how Sylar fits into the family!!!! who’s older-him or peter? why did angela give him up for adoption and not peter r nathan?
Didnt Angela always say that Peter was like his father, in season 1 when he believed he could fly(but it was nathans ability) and he was in hospital-am I right here-I havent got the boxsets so not 100%!!

Also can any1 explain how peters power actually works for me, how he can just ‘absorb’ others abilities. I get that Slyar has to examine the brain and figure the power out before he can do it-smart boy, but peter hasnt a clue, he can just do it!!! don’t get it!!

I think the writters just don’t know were to bring Mya’s story now so she’s getting the bullet, she did nothing but whine and cry last season ‘gabriel, sniff sniff boohooo, allahandro sniff sniff boohoo….’

I won’t worry too much with Maya gone, but I hope Adam stays. He has the best lines in the show, and I just love it when he calls Hiro ‘carp’. To get rid of him would mean one good point of the show gone. As much for Ando, I wish for him to be back with a banging power to shove up Hiro’s ass. In the future, Hiro saw Ando kill him and calls him a villain. But now, in the present, he offs Ando without much thinking, so who’s the villain now?!

Hiro is now officially my most hated character in the show. Hope they off him soon and the problem will be done. No more going to the future to save the world, just let the world die already, it needs too much saving just as it is.

But he’s not trying to change the future. He thinks that no matter what, Ando will kill him. That’s why he keeps doing things without Ando’s consent, because he “can’t trust” Ando. Hiro is set with the fact that Ando becomes a villain that he isn’t open to the fact that the future scene with him and Ando can be changed.

And Hiro turns on Kensei before he turns on Hiro. Hiro knew shouldn’t kiss the princess but went ahead. Hiro betrayed first, then Kensei.

Whether Daphne is in on it or not (why they would tell her I have no idea as she was still an annoyance/nemesis to Hiro before they met up with Knox present) Ando cannot be dead.
They released a video of Hiro finding a sword in a shop prior to the season premiere, and I think they guffed the whole ‘is Ando really dead’ scenario as a result of that.
It was a little too convenient for them to have a samurai sword so close to hand for Hiro to kill Ando don’t you think?
And I agree their friendship is more one-sided this season but that doesn’t make Hiro capable of killing Ando, he’s scared of him but not enough to kill him at the request of someone he’s only just met.
Hiro’s been stupid this season but he’s not that evil (not yet anyway), I have some faith in him (even if he is driving me crazy currently with his stupidity).

The question should not be ‘is Ando really dead?’ (cos it’s clear he’s not) but rather ‘how did Hiro and Ando know Knox and Daphne would ask him to kill Ando?’. There’s got to be some time travel involved so we need to know how and why.

Hiro decided to kill Ando so fast and used a line he’d used earlier with Ando, it had to be premeditated. I agree, time travel was definitely involved. I hope Maya is done. I really like the idea behind it but the writers have really put her on a bridge to nowhere (I made a funny, lol). But really, her characters story has no development lately and it shows no promising signs of worth.

I can see only one reason to kill Adam, and that would be to show that the “immortals” can die. He’s one character I’d like to keep on the show but, if its to show that even he can die, I’m fine with it. He’s really the only disposable immortal right now.

Sylar - Character’s story is the best on the show right now
Peter - Always a critical part of the show

Which is sad, because Meredith’s power could be exciting. Except the only thing she’s done with it that I’ve seen is heat up a room and lite a cigarette. Arthur’s power I think is still to mysterious to figure out, but I think it has something to do with what you’ve said.

We’ve seen what Flint can do with his blue flames… I image it’s similar.

I still like the fact that He did a Hadoken while in the level 5 cell.

well if arthur patrellis power is to ’steal’ others powers. make other special people lose their power while he gains it. then that would explain a couple of thing.

why he needs adam. steals his power and he heals out of that bed. this is backed by the adam aging photo, and then dying.

if he steals powers then he might have stolen a power to paralyze people, thus what he did to angela.

its also another variant of the patrelli genetic family NATURAL power, all save nathan who was made.

once again though, where is the haitian.

Has anyone watched adio commentary on season 1? The actor who plays HRG refers to the hatian as “the hatian sensation thats sweeping the nation” lol it fits ur requests perfectly lol

i hope maya and mohinder goes out of the show, i mean since the beginning i already hated mohinder, he has a bad voice over and his story line sucks! about maya its ok if they make her stay just make her powers complex i mean come on! everytime she has to use her powers she has to kill all the people in the perimeter cant she control to kill people 1 at a time.. I rather have monica back to the show! at least shes cool and funny.. and how come i’m not seeing elle anymore? shes one of my favorites :D
