Season 3 Surprise: Say Goodbye to Monica!
Now this is one I didn’t see coming, but it’s a move (if true) that I’m certainly applauding. You know how pretty much every Heroes fan were in agreement on their indifference (and in some cases, complete dislike) of the whole New Orleans storyline in Season 2, which introduced and followed the character Monica (played by Dana Davis), a Hero that can mimic any action/skill she sees? According to Dana Davis herself, who is out on the rounds promoting the upcoming DVD release of her horror movie remake “Prom Night”, the overwhelmingly negative reaction got the attention of The Powers That Be, and Monica may in fact be leaving the show.
Could it be? Could our wishes have been granted? Hallelujah!
Here’s the interview over at PopWrap:
PW: The last we saw Monica, she had caused Niki (Ali Larter) to “die,” when does the season premiere pick up?
Dana: We pick up right there.PW: Do you play a large part in season three?
Dana: Well, I would just say to fans of Monica’s, I don’t want to disappoint them, but her storyline wraps up fairly quickly.PW: Why?
Dana: “Heroes” didn’t get the same critical or fan acclaim in season two, so I think the creators felt a lot of pressure because the ratings dropped and it wasn’t nominated for any Emmys. And with the strike, I feel like the writers had a lot of time to sit around and think. They wanted to come back really strong and go back to what the show was in season one – less drama, more action. And they took it in a different direction that didn’t really include Monica.PW: That’s terrible, I thought there was a lot of potential there.
Dana: Yeah, me too. I loved the character and I love the power – but I totally understand and it makes a lot of sense knowing where the story goes.PW: And heroes return all the time – it’s a small superpowered world!
Dana: Absolutely! Tim Kring [creator] and I have talked about that, you never know when I’ll show up again!
I have to admit that this news makes me a very happy boy. The whole New Orleans storyline was just so unnecessary to the entire Season 2 run (not to mention coming across as overly exploitative in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina), and the more they tried to make Monica a part of the universe, the more forced it came across.
“Couldn’t they have found something more interesting for Micah and Niki Sanders to do?” was all I kept thinking during all those wasted moments spent on Monica learning how to cook and do kung fu and other really, really stupid things that didn’t affect the Heroes universe.
Now it appears as if Tim Kring and company have listened to the fans and dumped a superfluous character. Thank you, Tim Kring!
I gotta say, Season 3 is looking brighter already.

that sucks, the story kinda of sucked but her power was just plain awesome. i mean just let her go work for the company then shes out of the show but still alive with a potentially better plot
The Company does not need her, well she could be a good cook or maid lol just get her a video on that… aw burger barn hero, how I wish you were dead!
In the grand scheme of things, Monica’s story didn’t pick up the pace fast enough, but looking at Series 1, a lot of characters storylines did a similar thing (Niki’s for example). I’m dissapointed since Monica’s power was very cool and I liked the storylines where characters discoverd and learned about their powers, as oppposed to characters like Elle who are introduced with a high level of control and understanding etc.
At the same time, with all these new villains, we can leave out unnecessary people, and I suppose she fits that bill, but I hope that we do see her come back later on.
I also hope Micah sticks around…or, if he is written out of this series, he comes back in some form in S4.
Well, maybe I’m in the minority, but I quite liked Monica and I think this news sucks. The writer should not generalise Heroes fans by saying that all of them disliked her, because I didn’t.
I have to agree with you, I thought she was cool, and I really liked her story line, so maybe some time in the future, she’ll come back, which would rock…
Really? Most people liked Monica and its not really a surprise since she hasn’t been at any of the season three media events or in the cast photo. I’ve been pretty sure she’s been cut from the show for months.
But they have been cut to give Niki a better storyline I’m sure as many have complained about hers.
The cast photo is just for series regulars. Molly, Adam and the Villains we know of aren’t included and yet they will no doubt feature prominently in S3. The same goes for Micah.
The writer of this news just sells nonsense. Im glad Dana joined The Heroes Universe and I’m glad she had a power like that.
EH really glad? Oh well I would be glad to see Sylar kill her in the Heroes Universe!
That’s kinda rough on Monica don’t you think? What did ever do to you. She’s just like all the other Heroes, confused about their powers…
Oh well, maybe she’ll be back.
I am glad she is going her power is just ripped off from naruto anime. See “Sharingan”
Are you really comparing a superpower to a cartoon ability?
If you haven’t noticed, superpowers have been out a lot longer than Naruto, so perhaps you’re looking at it backwards…THEY stole their power from HER.
=/
I totally agree but no one stole anything there is no copyright on powers or abilities if there was heroes wouldn’t exist
Naruto started in 2002. So I highly doubt I have it backwards. Check ya facts first,
haha very funny
but no , I liked Monica , I really wanted her to stay , I liked the copy-cat , I thought Heroes fans liked Monica ??? anywho , if it is so , you gotta move on , and let the way of Heroes continue cause everything is story and there’s always a great one !!!
Good. the only scene with her I actually liked was the one where Suresh refused to inject her with the virus. but that was more about him, not Monica.
if monica dies i hope sylar kills her sylar is a cool dude but peter is cooler
yes it should definately be sylar that kills her if she has to go, omg it would be awesome if he had that power!!
sylar is cool (cooler than peter!!
)
that sucks i liked her and she could have had interesting storyline
Drat. Her character had a lot of potential. I’m wondering how exactly they will “wrap up” her story line.
Its funny you should wonder, dont pyhcics know everything?
Omniscience is boring
WHAT?!?! THATS NOT FAIR!!! I KNOW WE ARE ALL ENTITLED TO OUR OWN OPINIONS BUT WHAT MADE SEASON 2 SUCK WAS WHAT THE WRITERS DID WITH THE STORY!! SEASON 1 WAS EPIC BECAUSE THEY BUILT CLARE UP AS ONE OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS THEN IT WAS HER LIFE ON THE LINE, SEASON 2 WAS ABOUT A STUPID GLASS VIAL…NOBODY IS GOING TO GET INTO A STORY WHEN ITS NOT SOMEONES LIFE DIRECTLY ON THE LINE!! WHAT YOU WERE SAYING ABOUT THE WHOLE UNNECESSARY NEW ORLEANS STORY ARCH IS COMPLETE RUBBISH! LOOK AT MAYA AND ALEJANDRO! THEY WERE LESS NECESSARY THAN MONICA AND THEY HAD WORSE POWERS!they drove through mexico in clare bennetts car and they didnt even pick up on that, the guy who stole the car and helped them get that far got killed, they get caught by police and escape straight away, its all pointless!!! OMFG IM SO MADDDDD!!!!!!!
i hope to god they give her a good worthy run for her money and they dont just fob her off or i will be seriously annoyed! its like “woo lets get rid of linderman the awesome healer and lets introduce Bob the Alchemist, Lets get rid of Monica and her ability and lets make Mohinder spiderman!” i cannot wait for season 3, but i think they’ve made a HUUUGE mistake here! they got rid of the wrong newcomer for the sake of making a new stupid love story that wont last the season…..BAD MOVE WRITERS!!!! BAD BAD MOVE!
sorry, Rant over…night guys!x
OshKosh
Capslock cruise control for cool.
Monicas was easily the most interesting and promising new character story arc of season 2.
Just letting her drop out of the story and keeping Maya is a crime.
Dont believe the hype. Kring and his writers have NOT been listening to us.
More new characters, more romance (or “Mo-mance”), more dropped plots….
~Action
I COMPLETELY agree! As I recall, Maya and Alejandro were the ones looked down upon, and although THEIR story line was easily more interesting, Monica’s character was far more captivating. I was seriously waiting for her to start donning a costume on a regular basis and become a small-town superhero. This news bums me out.
i TOTALLY AGREE!!!! i was just researching the new series cause ive missed a few eps and i read the title of this forum and was really shocked! i really liked monica, and as ive said before she was something fresh and new we could see and watch her as her powers grew etc, otherwise eventually (not too soon but maybe) we will grow old of the SAME characters over and over again so its good when they introduce new ones into the bunch!!!!
That sucks. While her season 2 storyline with Micah was off, she was still an interesting character and I kind of hoped that they would have had a better story for her this season. Her power was really cool too. All I can say is I hope either:
A)Peter encounters her to absorb her ability
or
B)Sylar kills her to steal her ability
this does suck i recall people complaining about maya and alejandro way more then monica and that storyline, they should have made it that suresh found the way to give peoples powers thru monica and not maya, it wouldve made more sence since her power has to do with mimicing thats my opinion anyway i liked her and her power, hope she comes back
Monica has the potential to be one of the most action oriented characters. Personally I think that Tim Kring just didn’t focus on Niki, Micah, and Monica like he should have. They should have been in the premiere of season two, Monica and Micah should have run into another hero, like Claude or Meredith, or Bob should have came to Monica a lot sooner and should have stayed in touch longer then when he did. Niki should have gotten more scenes and Micah should have gotten his own story line, instead of just been thrown into Monica’s.
Even though none of these happened, I was hoping that Monica’s character would be given the chance to prove herself to all the New Orleans story haters.
Yaaay! i hated her for letting niki die in that fire, i wish she dies!
I have to agreeeeee. Monica was a great addition and I am quite sad at her parting. I actuall really get exasperated at all these people who keep complaining about new characters. New Characters are great if you think about series one there were loads of characters in there – Claude, Meredith, Isaac, Simone, Candice, Linderman etc – Second series just replaced some of them. New Characters are new blood and we should have faith in Tim Kring that he knows what he’s doing even if he has made a mistake with Monica.
What the hell. I thought Monica was going to play a huge part in Season 3. And what about Saint Joan? Damn writers.
