NBC Officially Cancels Heroes; TV Movie Still Possible

After weeks of keeping fans on pins and needles, and a whole lot of speculation about what the silence means, NBC has finally put us out of our misery, and made a decision.

Heroes has been canceled.

I’ll be honest with you, I expected it to happen. So, what about that 2-hour/4-hour movie event to wrap things up? Deadline, which has insider info on the matter, says that is still a possibility:

NBC sources now tell me that the network is “working on a way to wrap up the show. That will be determined after the upfront.” Other insiders explain to me that NBC will soon commit to that 2-hour or 4-hour special event in midseason to reward Heroes fans.

Well it’s over, but it’s not COMPLETELY over.

More news on the TV movie event as we get them.

    this is so depressing

Though I was a big fan of the show, after the lack luster events of the entire last seaon I’m really not at all surprised. Though I am seriously dissapointed they won’t have a chance to “get back to their roots” as it were.

wow. u know maybe if they didnt fire some of the original writers that helped get the show booming this would of never happened. (with the soft story lines they have come up with lately). Peter befriending the man who killed his brohter! Cmn man give me a break. Not to mention all the inconsistencies. Nevertheless, I loved the show and am saddened by its departure. Hopefully they will come out with a R rated movie with a strong story line that will answer all our questions (where did it all begin, was Adam Monroe the first, etc.). And hopefully that movie will do one of the greatest television series’ some justice.

I COULDNT HAVE SAID IT ANY BETTER MYSELF ITS FUCKING STUPID TO END IT WITHOUT ANSWERS.I DIDNT WAIST ALL MY TIME ALL THOSE NIGHTS TO BE FUCKED OVER.. PEACE LOL

      • Lil_yari1k

yes i agree maybe another channel might have given us closure!!!!! boo!!!

      • Brooksdasha

i totally agree with that maybe they should let another network take over instead of strewing up the whole show.why would they cancell to me it seems like alot of ppl love the show.

      • Azure23

Agreed. This series was really fun. Yes, the last season was a little off center compared to the other three seasons, but I really think there should be some sort of wrap up on this. Leaving everyone hanging without letting us know what happened is so typical of the higher ups that it’s almost become painful to watch anything good, because you know they will leave you wanting more and never deliver.

As to another network picking up the whole storyline, good ideas would be USA or SciFi. However, USA did the same thing to everyone who loved Dead Zone, leaving us with an unanswered cliffhanger when they stopped the series dead. All I can say is, it’s too bad they canceled one of the most original series I’ve seen in ages.

HERO’S WAS THE BEST TV SHOW I’VE EVER SEEN,,,,,,WISH ABC WOULD HAVE HAD IT,,,MIGHT HAVE MADE IT

    • #1 Heroes Fan

I just found out today… I am soooooo dissapointed! BOOOO! to NBC!

    • meeeeeeeeeeeeee

why why why. they better do it justice wi a film wi plenty of action the series waz turning into a soap for super heroes not that i am complaning but as commented down bellow it waz still good

      • Stephanni

a soap for super heroes! now thats a awesome idea! Hell if they can keep these boring soaps that you can miss a years worth of, and still know exactly whats going on because its always the same crap, in production and on tv for YEARS, then why couldnt they keep Heroes on?!

    • Sweisman1212

I saw this coming… after the first 2 seasons the show took a bunch of weird twists. The thing they did with Alit Larter was corny just to keep a high profile actress aboard. I have always wondered how Peter would get his original powers back And they were trying to kill off my boy Hiro. The writers essentially ruined two of the best characters on the show. There was no balance and they softened up Sylar. I think these hings left fans scratching their head . The inconsistencies in the story line were atrocious, and just ruined what was an amazing first season.

      • Sniperwolfjulian

I totally agree with this comment. They should know by now that high profile actors lose to a good story.. Look at “Chuck”. It started as a filler show before Heroes but is gonna last longer after they butchered the storyline. Its as if the new writers didnt even watch the series themselves..They forgot the cool samurai version of Hiro, Left out nikki’s son,and what the hell happened with doc shuresh lizard man on epsode superman the nexted?

      • Morreo Greene

I just knew that once Peter got all of his powers back that there would be a final showdown between Peter and Sylar. After Nathan was killed, you would think that they would have fast forwarded the show 10 years later, introducing the futuristic Peter, Mohinder, and Hiro.

    • Davidofvalio

is heroes continuing on g4 network they say the series is continuing

    • Joshdt14

ya It really is that was the only thing to watch on tv

  • http://twitter.com/Terrormaster Terrormaster

Suspected as much. One other possibility (hope and pure speculation) is that SyFy will pick up the series and do mini-series movies like with SG1.

  • Alessiana

I just found this show and ugh. gone. I hate this

  • LivingRPG

This is some messed up news!!!! why cancel a great show just because it's not number one… i mean come the f**k on! It's not like it was dead last with no viewers… right?!! As far as i am concerned i am never watchin NBC ever again!!!!!!

    • Brooksdasha

i will never watch nbc again either

  • Byron

Unfortunately, it pretty much was dead last in tv ratings. It still had a ton of internet viewers, dvd sales, and tivo watches. But when it comes down to it the live rating weren't that good. I think tv execs are still trying to figure out how to really profit from those previously mentioned views.

I still think it should have been renewed though. We can only hope for a mini-series now.

DAMN STRAIGHT I’LL NEVER WATCH ANYTHING ON NBC EVER AGAIN

    • Brooksdasha

ikr i do not wanna watch no damn movie i want the show back, stupid pricks at nbc

  • Tim

I HOPE NBC THEMSELVES GET THEIR ASSES CANCELED!

PLUS I'M SELLING ALL MY HEROES DVDS USED SO THEY DON'T MAKE ANY MONEY OFF THE NEXT PERSON

  • worldneedsmoreheroes

Really too bad its being cancelled! It actually had some good philosophical thought behind it – whether someone is ultimately good or bad…human nature and its tendencies towards intolerance aka racism…

It's unfortunate that the only drivel on tv left are reality shows and such that highlight the worst of people. at least in Heroes, there was some ideals and role models for being a hero!

the media wants to keep the masses ignorant, petty, and small minded – thanks for showing your true colours nbc

    • Daniel416

U r so right i feel the sameway as u do and the many other fans will agree on how we feel and see on how the show meant to us and how nbc just killed it with a flick of a switch as they didn’t care on what the fans were asking of them to just please allow the show to continue all the cared about is money money money!!!

      • Yinyang0369

I agree…NBC has turned into law and order channel and dumb ass talent shows or weightloss programs. They lost Medium to ABC and now this show as well…I dont NBC is willing to have anything along the lines of supernatural or mystical shows, or mnything that could actually make you think. I think once they ended ER, NBC turned into a facist broadcasting network for the mindless public.

I fully agree “worldneedsmoreheroes” this is was the most thought out amazing show, it did give people a sense of the world in a better light, the reality of it, and just reminding people what it meant to still have a dream of making a difference. I am so sick and tired of all the reality DRAMA shows, hence Jersey Shore and other’s that rely on getting drunk, partying, and sexual escapades. What happened to real entertainment, imagination and good morals, a show that made you think?!

      NBC, you screwed up!

  • Riya

Season 1 was AMAZING…they should have taken time to see how they should have gone about season 2…also they should have had a beginning and an end in mind…and not just go with the flow and try to milk it as much as they could :( Plus the main writers left mid way through…why commit to a project if you're just going to leave?? They should have followed the LOST people in how they knew where they wanted the story to go…it was sooo all over the place…and they were too scared to kill characters off! It was sooooo good in the beginning….I hope we still get that 2-4hr special they're talking about to tie up loose ends…I'll miss this show :((

    • Natalie

i think all the seasons were amazing, the story went how the real world would have portrayed it, it was never really science fiction it was showing the supernatural occurences that are already happening to people and they just accelerated it, when you have such abilities i amagine things do get dangerous for the body and mind, i understand people are annoyed at the show being cancelled and trust me i am also, but you cant say that only one or two of the seasons were amazing, they were all great, im sad to see it go, and if a movie will wrap things up properly then i will be happy although i think they can squeeze so much more story out of this as there is already alot going on, not to mention that you didnt see all the heroes interracting with eachother as much as they used to, you see a couple get together then thats it, i do wish there were further seasons out i would be happy with another 5 more seasons as i thought it was that good, and i am going to stop now cos i have spoken too much lol, i love heroes………it had to be said.

  • aquay

Although the show had not tied up loose ends – which I'd loved to have seen done – I'll still miss this show. I'm more concerned that the writers and NBC come across with a lack of focus.

    R.I.P. Heroes.

  • Jack

I have to laugh! This is why you should never get into any series which story goes on and on. Network shows like this many times get canceled without a story ending. People who watched this show ended up wasting many many hours of their lives. It's worse then going to a movie and the theater turning off the projector 15 minutes before the movie is over. Network shows like this are an absolute TOTAL WASTE of time. It's a shame young kids get sucked in to series like this. Tell your children to avoid these types of shows at all cost! Network TV (NBC/CBS/ABC) have a long history of this!

    • Jeff

It’s network TV, Jack. Just enjoy each episode and remember that it’s all pretend – LOL. TV is escapism, not a major philosophical statement.

  • Max

Why!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heroes was the highlight of my day. But it's true that they were milking it with sylar going bad and then good and then bad again. But I'm going to miss it.

HEROES WILL ALWAYS HAVE A PLACE IN MY HEART

  • jamie

Hmm in my opinion i think a quick movie would be better than 13 episode. if they were to make 13 episodes they would be incapable of making awesome special effects around the (whole) season because of the low ratings so they dont have much money, for example on season 1 they had about 16 millions views per episode so they made the episodes epic with good fights and stuff. But now that lately heroes has lost so much views if Tim kring makes 13 episodes it will probably have a good season starting but during the middle it will most likely be all talk and not much good action and than a epic final finale. However if they make a short movie they will have time to think about it and focus carefully on each character and think about what their doing by not rushing it and when it does come out there should be limited talking and lots of action happening because it will not go for long. In order to get their ratings back up majorly, Tim kring needs to add a few new things to the show or it alot of people will still continue to think heroes sucks. 1 hiro nakamura needs to stay having his full power and no more stupid stuff or catches to it. 2 without a doubt peter needs to have multiple powers other than his replication ability that does not make sense. 3 sylar needs to be using more powers other than just telekinesis, he has plenty of powers but he decides to only use 1 of them most of the time it will just be good for a change if he used more. 4 A new villain just as strong or stronger than sylar needs to be added to the show, for example imagin if sylar's dad found clair and took her ability (remember sylar told his dad where he picked up the ability from) and he went on a rampage at full power he will became a huge threat which will make fans excited about watching new episodes, or simply bring a completely new very powerful villain in that will get fans interested in because they wont know what he is capable off. Please reply and tell me what u think of my ideas.

    • Anonymous

of all the ideas ive heard and come up with on my own, this is the best one out there. Yes, nbc totally wasted Hiros ability. Yes, Peter needs multi powers (Maybe he could touch baby Touch-N-Go and be fixed) And Yes, as creepy as sylars killer finger is, theres no point in giving a guy somany powers if hes not gonna us them. Bring back papa gray!

    • Blaccjacc7

I agree, I’ve been saying that they should bring in Sylar’s father as a man villian after allowing him to find the healing power. Imagine the possibities his story’s arc could’ve had; we already know he’s cold hearted by that statement about killing Sylar’s mom (“I don’t remember, it didn’t matter enough to me back then) Imagine he finds a healer, takes that ability and he’s as good as new; he’d make Arthur Petrelli look like West (from Season 2). Sylar’s dad could have gone on this whole political movement trying to gain power, “Just to see if he could….” remember that quote? This show will be back I think, this will be just like Family Guy; executives won’t realize what they had until the show’s been off of the air for two seasons but the DVD sales are still through the roof and the fan following will still be there in full force, then maybe the Sci-Fi networkor MTV or something major will pick up the show, and then we’ll get the episodes that we’ve been wanting because the execs will see that the fans are the reason for that show anyway, not the critics. If they just get a team of writers to commit to the show, allow fan input and put together some great ideas based on what the majority of fans want to see and what is lucrative.

  • christopher w

i am now officially boycotting nbc! Sorry Lorne Michaels, you will be an unfortunate victim of this boycott as a direct result of nbc's lack of intelligence. First they screwed over Conan, then they cancel the greatest show that has ever been put on the airwaves, without giving us an ending?! Claire just showed the world what she could do, and it was on the news and everything, and “A Brave New World” was about to be emarked upon!!! WTF?!?! i'm sooooo sad now. i loved Heroes.
    R.I.P.
    HEROES

  • Angelo

Did you hear they cancelled the show it's gone there is no trying to bring the ratings up…..It's over. The movie would just bring them backfull circle. Your ideas even though you think might be good are far from it.Sorry to be blunt like this. They made Sylar to powerful, that's where they messed up. And the lack of having direction was the killer. Look @ Vampire diaries each week they have a Plot that leads to something with a cliff hanger. Heroes became a soap opera.

  • xrobx

This is the only show on television I even watch. Even then I'd watch it on the website the next day. Oh well. This is why I hate TV. It's a waste of time to get into a good show.

  • Praveen Gawali

I truly agree with u all. Heroes was awesome & started arousing my Interest. I never missed a single episode of any season. It was the best Sci-fi ever.
I will cherish the memories of Heroes.

  • George

did the shooting for season 5 actually commence? ..and they are now axing it?
can someone clear this matter for me?

  • I Am Sylar!

This is horse piss. This is the only show i watch on NBC, ao after this I'm saying bye bye to NBC. They should give us at least one more 23 episode season, quite frankly I don't know how they will tie up the loose ends in 4 hours if we are lucky enough to get that. Screw NBC
