Mister Linderman’s Powers Revealed

What is Mister Linderman’s powers? It was revealed a while back that crime boss Linderman (played by Malcolm McDowell) does indeed possess powers, and TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello, in his daily Ask Ausiello column, has the answer. He was coy about it, answering about Linderman’s powers: “You know what show I miss, Dan? Carnivale. That Ben Hawkins was one fascinating dude. Oh, the things he could do with his mind….” And never having seen the HBO show Carnivale, I jumped on Wikipedia and this is what I found about the character Ben Hawkins and his powers…
Ben was born with a gift, the Christ-like ability to heal.
And so now we know. Mister Linderman has the power to heal!
Although I have to say, I wonder how that helped him get to be a big time crime boss. You’d think someone with his notoriety would have a more, well, scarier power…
You can catch Ausiello’s daily Ask Ausiello column here.

You don’t wanna eat what this guy is cooking.

Well…Ben’s actual powers were the ability to heal with a price, he could give life but at the expense of taking someone else’s. Now can you see how he could be a crime boss?
Sam on 28 March 2007:
Actually no. I still don’t see the correlation between being able to heal people (at a price or not) would help him rise to the top position of a crime syndicate. I’m guessing he could heal himself, but how would that help him beat all his rivals?
Chris Harrison on 28 March 2007:
Imagine if Linderman healed you, restored you… imagine the price you’d have to pay to return the favor. That’s the sort of real power Linderman has… imagine the people that’s he’s helped and how they’ve had to repay him…
deuce on 28 March 2007:
Right Chris, or if he gets into a fight and heals himself but sucks it out of someone else say his opponent or someone dear to them. He could be quite deadly and/or manipulative.

Linderman’s power to heal would fit, i was hoping they would have a character like that, it is a more selfless power than the others, unless he uses it badly, which he probably does. It would fit that he was in the army then, because read the graphic novels, someone healed an injury, nice bit of power there…linderman!
ben on 28 March 2007:
That matches with NBC’s online Graphic Novel’s. The latest of these novels shows someone in veitnam war that can heal people. Is that a young Linderman?
mojo on 28 March 2007:
After hearing about the “Carnivale” reference, it makes perfect sense if I’ve been keeping up with the online Graphic Novels as well as I like to think I have, I have a pretty good feeling that Austin (real name unknown) and Linderman could be one in the same. And if Hana was to retrieve the records about Dallas and Austin so that HRG could bring down the company…. it all may be coming into focus just a little better…….. those magnificient writers…………

I KNEW IT!
Josh on 28 March 2007:
well i can see how it might fit, didnt he say when nathan was pointing the gun at him that many people have tried to kill him before, maybe he can heal himself as well
Mathsorcerer on 28 March 2007:
As noted, the ability to heal puts you in the position of being able to bargain for vast sums of money or favors from those who are terminally ill and don’t wish to die yet. Besides, how do we know that he hasn’t also been able to reverse his ability and also has the power to kill with a mere touch? *evil laughter*
Why, oh, why did they not continue Carnivale? *weep* *moan*

does anyone read the comics on the NBC website?! there’s a comic out now w/ a guy who can heal… if u dont read them u should def. check it out!
Darrin on 29 March 2007:
So, if Linderman is the Austin character from the online comic, that would make Dallas the Eric Robert’s character? No, he’s too young if Dallas should be approximately Linderman’s age. Maybe Peter & Nathan’s father? The one who was Linderman’s lawyer until his death just prior to this season. I think we’re on to something here. If next season turns the clock back, that connection, leading to Petrelli Senior’s suicide, would make for an interesting plot thread.
