Heroes Rumor of the Day: The Writers Strike is Almost Over!

By Sam | November 26, 2007 (9:28 am) | More: Heroes TV Show News

If you’re a Heroes fan, you already know that the ongoing Hollywood Writer’s Strike (now in its fourth week) has practically crippled the Heroes Season 2, with the expected 24 episodes having been cut down to a meager 11, with tonight’s “Truth and Consequences” being the penultimate episode, and next week’s “Powerless” (episode 11) conceived as the Season 2 finale as a result. Now comes news that the strike may be at an end — the operative word there, obviously, is MAY.

The possible good news comes from Deadline Hollywood Daily, who says this:

…a very reliable source tells me that there appears to be a deal seemingly in place between both sides.

“It’s already done, basically,” the insider describes. That’s because of the weeks worth of groundwork by the Hollywood agents working the writers guild leadership on one side, and the studio and network moguls on the other. I was told not to expect an agreement this week. But my source thought it was possible that the strike could be settled before Christmas.

Keep in mind that all of this is speculative, but what the heck, this is the first piece of good news I’ve heard all month concerning the strike.

Obviously, even if the strike were to end by Christmas, it would still mean that no new episodes will be forthcoming for a while. It’s open to debate whether NBC would continue with the rest of Season 2 by producing new episodes after the Christmas break, or if they’ll just shut the Season 2 down after “Powerless” and start the show up again with Season 3 next year.

And as to the possible salvation of “Heroes: Origins”? Who knows…

  1. I believe all TV shows’ fans hope the strike to be settled *today*. So that new episodes can keep coming.

I swear, if the strike ends today, I’ll say a big ‘Yatta!’. Lol.

  2. I, too, would love the strike to be over today. It’s my favorite TV show! Smallville was my first until Heroes came in and took the #1 spot. Heroes is too good to calling it quits. (Please Bob, use your midas touch to fix this!)

  3. Finally the strike is almost over!!!
so is season 2 gonna only be 11 episods???
Are they done with season 2????

    I hope not

  4. One thing I don’t understand: Why would a strike cause a premature end of a series season. In my understanding it would by unwise to begin with airing a series’ season, if not all episodes are produced and ready for broadcast.

Or is that the way, things are done in the TV buissnes? Start airing a show, while further episodes still have to be produced, always trying to keep ahead in production? What if things get delayed, an actor gets ill (not severly, but just so that he/she can’t perform for a month or so) or for gods sake, somehow the uncut material get lost and has to be reshot?

I’d expect a season to be finished, before airing, or at least be done through half way.

  5. From Greg Beeman’s Blog:

It is true that, on the eve of the strike, as it was becoming an inevitability, Tim did some quick rewrites on episode 11, so that it would be even more resolved and complete if, God forbid, the strike goes on so long that there is no more of season 2 than the first eleven. If that happens 11 will be a de-facto season finale and can function as such. But if the strike is resolved relatively soon, we will most certainly come back and present VOLUME 3.

  6. This is what I was thinking about too. It looks like we get such fresh stuff on TV that a month pause is enough to ruin it on halfway. I’m sad to realise, but even if strike is over new episodes must be written/produced yet, and that takes time…

  7. Yes, that is the way things are done in show business. You know, the writers don’t get paid nearly as much as the actors. But, if the strike ends soon…that would be excellent!

I wish they’d continue with Heroes: Origins. If they don’t, it’s possible that Heroes may die between this season break (which, if the strike continues, will be a long one). I mean, season 2 is only just got good over the last four episodes. But, time will tell.

  8. I don’t understand why they would start a new season if there was going to be some kind of conflict that would mess with the season. I guess that’s done and done, but i’m still holding out hope that the season will take a break and then somehow start again in another couple of weeks after the Dec. 3rd episode. I really don’t want to buy season two on dvd and only have 11 episodes to watch. Compared to the first season, that’s just ridiculous.

  9. I do feel kinda cheated, I loved the way you could piece it all together in season 1, and watch all the character growth, its like Maya learned how to control her powers extremely quick its not as realistic as season 1, (okay okay i know its only a comic) but season 1 left me on the hunt for my yet undiscovered powers!!!!

Plus season 2 hasnt explained properly why they rescued Sylar??!!!! You can tell its incomplete!!!!

Not fair, they shouldnt of aired it until it was all resolved!!!!!!

  10. i will do the same Thaty!!! omg though, a third season!! yay!

  11. I don’t know how a TV series work schedule is like? Do they planned and filmed something like this six months prior to being aired? or are they work as they go? Don’t the writer have already penned at least the majority of the work and at least half of those were already filmed?

  12. SERIOUSLY, WHAT’S WITH THE STRIKE?!

THEY SHOULD GET BACK TO WORK.

    IM GONNA MISS HEROES

COZ IT WONT BE ON TV

    FOR A WHILE =[

  13. PLEASE let them extend season 2 over December. I would hate for it to end so soon. It’s not fair for the greatest (one of the greatest) shows ever to have so short a season!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. In case you haven’t heard about TV shows. Looks like many shows will be canceled or postponed this season due to a writer’s strike until Hollywood’s labor issues are resolved. Bye bye heroes for a total of 11 episodes this season :-(usually there’s 20-24 episodes in any given season)

Check this listing for the “lack of new episodes” of your favorite shows:

  15. Seriosly, Why do people strik, isnt a writers first love writing why quite the Job you love just because somthing is wrong should the viewers be punished for the writers that dont whant to do there job I meen act your age people you are sopose to be audults here!!

  16. Judging by the writing this season I think writers must have started their strike a little early…

I guess one of the problems now could be when all the actors are free to shoot the next lot of shows.. if they all have things lined up, we could be waiting until the end of 2008 :(

  17. As a die hard heroes fan, I believe the strike needs to happen. The writers should have more control over the content they created. And all those complaining about the strike, get over it. You would do the same if you were the creator of the show, yet made the least of everyone involved. And Monique - “why do people strike” - because they aren’t getting their just dues. Also, you are telling the writers to grow up because they are fighting for something they whole-heartedly deserve and you are just complaining because your favorite show is going to be off the air for a few months!? Who is the real one who needs to grow up?

  18. All the heroes episodes have been over for a while now. All im hoping for is the writers strike to be over by christmas (what a present haa)

i feel every episode so far has been breath taking.
    Can wait until its over.

    :)

  19. Save the writers, save the show! PEOPLE NEED TO SUPPORT THEM!! I’m addicted. I’ll do anything.

  20. i dont watch heros because i never have time for it but i’ve watched ads 4 it it seems very good so the strike needs to end SOON so i can see it AMERICAN GOV PAY THE WRITERS THEIR WAGES U BAFOONS.Any idea when ugly betty comes back on???

  21. well at least Sylar wont have to die! And Brad I do believe I agree that Monique is a wee bit of a twat

  22. this sucks for me cuz i jus saw both of the seasons in two days my friend recommended me to watch it i loved it…and now im stuck wit u guys ….lol it sucks to be in a position like you people..i should have waited atleast 3days per episode dam it
