Heroes Will Probably Get a Final 13-Episode Season Order

At long last, there is some good news to report. While NBC has officially renewed a couple of its shows for new seasons, there’s this very good news from The Hollywood Reporter as to the fate of “Heroes”:

NBC still has a couple major titles on the bubble for renewal — namely “Chuck” and “Heroes” — but sources indicate both will probably return, with “Heroes” likely receiving a 13-episode “final season” order.

“It is all yet to be debated,” [NBC President Angela Bromstad] said. “Both of those shows make sense with the new shows we’ll be bringing on.”

I know that “probably return” isn’t exactly the same as “will return”, but it’s a major improvement from all the silence we’ve been hearing (as it were) the last few months.

A final 13-episode Season 5? I’m not greedy, I’ll take that over no season.

  My 13 year old daughter was asking me, “What’s up with Heroes?” So I find this site and I do have to say that kinggenesis has to be one of the most asinine imbeciles I have ever had the displeasure to come across. Why would someone that is clearly ignorant even try to sound like he knew what he was talking about. As for Heroes, I did enjoy watching it with my daughter and I am somewhat disheartenend to see that it has been cancelled. No matter what you have to say about Heroes, it is still better that 90percent of the other crap that’s on TV right now. And as far as NBC is concerned, I don’t think they really care what they put on TV. They lost their brightest star when Conan left and now they dump a show that really was something worth tuning in for. I really have no more reasons to even tune into that worthless network other than the Office and 30 Rock. I won’t even get started on the mess that they turned SNL into.

You're kidding right? I'm glad this is happy news for you, but I can't understand how anyone could have stuck by Heroes during the inexorable slide to craptacular that Heroes has been doing since Season 1. I finally gave up half-way through the fourth season.

However, if you are still enjoying it, I'm glad you'll get closure. Nothing sucks more than a show you love being cancelled.

If you think the show should have ended at the end of season 2 (after a writers strike that wasn't heroes fault) then perhaps at the beginning of season 3 you should have just stopped watching…commenting…and being a DI**. You kinggenesis have been on these boards for the last 2 years and yes i recognize you and you do nothing but complain….if you didn't like Heroes after season 2 then why the hell do you waste your life on these message boards. hey guy i dont watch reality tv or dancing with the stars./ i only complaine about the loop holes and loose ends that will never get tied up and thats why i think the show should end i like heroes i really do i just dont like how the WRITERS of heroes forget things or how they come up with a decent storie line on how to end sylar for the rest of the season and then bring him back the next episode to not even really save a def girl and his air time is over .. peter could have done that and still not finish samuel at the same time if they left sylar in his night mare till next season he wouldhave been all mad and stuff and killed matt still went after peter got claire and killed hrg that would have been the perfect way to end heroes but know they didnt do that . so thats why i complane . the writers suck tim kring has no idea how to tell a really good story he can tell an ok storie but not a good one and last season all the loose ends and stories that dont make sense adam monroe could have been the most interesting storie ever but they killed him for know aparent reason yes yers i know arthure took his power and he turned to dust because of his age. but they could have got around that and just say that how his power is gone he's just a 20 something old guy now and then told his storie of how he started the company and where was he the the flash back scene at the special camp … and the company's gone because one building burnt down what about the other buildings across the country ???? there so many things we'll never know because they (the writers) arent even sure on how to tell us … i offered many times on different sites to let me write the storie for them and i give it to them for free in fact i have it here sitting in my desk ….. the writersare so uncreative in boggles my mind as to how they got hired to write for a show that should be so more complex than it is write now arthure could have been a better villian theres so many things they couldhave done and didnt . thats why nbc took so long to say ok maybe you can come back for 13 more episodes maybe …key word there maybe .. cause there still not sure .. so i hope tim and his little writers there got something up there sleve for a banging last season cause if they dont i doubt tim will be creating another show for a long long time on nbc any way and im sure abc doesnt want them there doing just fine with lost and V and flash forward and all the GOOD shows they have whats nbc got.. really?…but you did make me laugh a little at the end of your comment …(10 season greats but if thats not in the cards I am happy with 13 episodes to wrap up the greatest story t.v. ever told.     there is no changing your mind, i know when an effort is futile. heroes isn’t by any means my favorite show. id prefer house, (old) scrubs (with new episodes(i hate the new ones)), one show i really miss is reaper. one of the dumbest moves a network has ever made was cancelling reaper. fucking cwtv. heroes is the best show on nbc but that isnt saying a whole lot.

  umm…..ok, you both sound a little bit crazy and maybe a little too wrapped up in a television show when its causing you to write page long intense comments about what MIGHT happen or how the script was SO bad, you actually wrote your own that you tried to send to the producers. I honestly don't know wat 2 think rite now.. i mean sumthin is better than nothin i guess.. i havent been this invested in a show ever in my life.. yes i feel they had sum let downs that shuda ben corrected but im 1 of the many #1 fans of it.. season 4 was awesome the only thing i didn't like is the battle b2een Sam & Peter.. It was too quick & too easily handled.. Otherwise it was the greatest season since the 1st.

I really hope a network willing to pump life into the show picks it up & don't feel its a lost cause.. Like SyFy or FX hell even G4.. I think those networks are worthy of paying attention to a show with so much to offer as this one.. we can hope at least i will..

And then him comeback murdering after having gone on the journey he's been on over a 3 year arc, would be terrible writing. If he kills it has to be a mistake or a situation where he has no choice, and for him to kill with so much blood on his hands, he would suffer for having done the acts.

Not the first time someone tried to correct my grammar on a blog, but when you get your mind filled with stupidity from reading peoples posts spelling and grammar is the last thing on your mind. Especially in a world full of internet crap like LOL and ROFL…I think my spelling is the least of peoples worries. Ok… being a late comer to this show I probably have a whacked up view point, but it is also untainted by this anger people have – based on some deaths perhaps, or based on the way the show is written in larger arcs than the average flea is accustomed to following. I watched the show on DVD and iTunes this winter.

But if there's a commitment for 13 episodes, go for greatness. Go for it because this show will be important even after it ends its run. People will come back to it again and again, and new people will enjoy it, like I did.

Write to your strengths, not to satisfy others, but to create an epic story. Go with what you have. Do it. You HAVE the pieces.

Basic ideas:

3 main characters for the purpose of this discussion. There is no way to have full stories for everyone over 13 episodes, not only would it be too fractured, but you can't show character well enough that way with only 13 episodes. So look at what has happened and what the key elements are.

Redeemed Hero – Sylar This one is obvious, or should be
Pure Hero – Peter These two are best friends or the 5 years in The Wall were meaningless
The beautiful Heroine – Claire Should always need saving. One gift/curse Sylar can give her is the ability to feel again. He can see how things work.

Nemesis? This needs to be developed but there's one potential lurking in the past.

Supporting characters are everyone else. What these characters do has to support the main three or it's too fragmented for the 13 episode arc.

The wise one – Angela

Story

Continue Sylar's progress towards being a hero. Don't keep flipping him: commit. He can continue to develop as a character, as he has to face what he has done to others, and what he may be required to do in order to help others in this arc. More blood on the hands? If it's unavoidable, Sylar would still suffer for having done it.

IF specials are public, Sylar's in deep, deep trouble & may need help to stay ahead of the law.

Peter is still pure and believes in doing the right thing. Because of this and the need for the audience to believe those 5 years meant something important, he and Sylar have to be real friends. I wouldn't have them snark at each other as we saw amongst Matt, Peter and Mohinder. At least, if it is snarky, have the other one “get” it.

Romantically, Peter needs to stay have a committed relationship with (ack, name?) cello girl. Development wise, plot wise, I don't know what to recommend for Peter. Maybe he tries to stop what's coming at the end but can't. he will survive it but this time, he can't stop it from hurting people he loves.

Claire is a superstar now that she jumped in front of media. I think Ultimately it comes down to her.

The nemesis could be Gray Sr. Now he realizes he can heal, he might get incredibly lucky during a hospital visit and kill a re-gen.

The climax could be Sylar saving Claire and the world by killing his father (lol old story eh? but it never gets old does it). I think this should end with Clarie forgiving Sylar only it's too late for them.

Of course, that idea kinda kills any movie development thoughts, doesn't it? But you've had people seem dead before so who knows.

Anyway, these are the thoughts of another fan. lol
