Fans of those original Heroes web comics that are posted at NBC’s Heroes site can look forward to more comics coming their way, and very soon. Frank Mastromauro, executive vice president of Aspen Comics, told fans at Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con over the weekend that they have received new scripts for the comics, and that 12 new characters will be introduced in the online graphic novels, with the most popular character potentially making the leap onto the actual live-action show.
Here’s Mastronauro via SciFiWire:
“We do all the online webisodes for Heroes,” Mastromauro said at a panel for Aspen Comics on May 31. “We just received a whole bunch of new mini-scripts for this [project]. Just in the last couple weeks, [artist and Aspen vice president] Peter Steigerwald designed 12 new characters for Heroes. All these characters are debuting online at NBC.com throughout the summer, and then, towards the end, characters who get the most votes [from fans] will probably wind up making it onto the show this fall.”
“We’ll be doing an e-graphic novel this summer,” Mastromauro said. “And instead of just stand-alone stories, it’s kind of one, big continuous story with instances and things that happen to a lot of the characters we designed. It all leads up to the new season in September.”
Meanwhile, UK reader ‘Graham’ gave us the heads up that Heroes Season 2 is being released in the UK a month earlier than in the States in a 4-disk box set. Amazon.co.uk is already taking pre-orders for the release, which will be comprised of all 11 episodes in the strike-shortened season. The expected ship date is July 28, 2008, a month earlier than the August 26, 2008 that the DVD is scheduled to ship in the States.
NOTE: A bit of warning for those living in the States who are considering buying the UK release. The DVD box set will be formatted in the PAL format (Region 2), so make sure your DVD player can play PAL (and not just NTSC, Region 1, as is the US format).
Heroes Season 3 begins airing in September 22, 2008.
