“How to Stop an Exploding Man”? That’s the question at the end of Season 1, and it’s also the title for Chapter 23, the last episode of Season 1, when, according to showrunner Tim Kring (via Sci Fi Wire), “The whole thing converges in New York…and they’re all there, and all of them play a role… Even though some may feel like they’re less significant to the final event, when you analyze it, each one had to play that role in order for the final event to be solved, and so there really was a kind of destiny quality to them coming together and having each one fulfilling [one thing] and one specific role.”
More details about the final 5 episodes have surfaced:
- Chapter 20 will be called “String Theory”
- Chapter 21 will be called “The Hard Part”
- Chapter 22 will be called “Landslide”
- Chapter 23, “How to Stop an Exploding Man” will air May 23
- Heroes will die in the Season 1 finale, including major characters
- Even if characters die, they can still show up again in later episodes (Remember, one hero can teleport back and forth through time)
Finally, Kring adds:
“There is a cliffhanger quality to some of the episode, but more in terms of what is the fate of some of our characters, as opposed to what the story is going to be… Although we do have a one, I hope, shocking sort of spoiler for what season two is going to be. A premonition of … what we’re calling volume two.”

Chris Harrison on 19 March 2007:
Is the finale air date correct? Shouldn’t it be airing on May 21? Or are they actually going to pit the finale up against Lost???
Sam on 20 March 2007:
Yeah, that does make sense. But the Sci Fi Wire article says it’s May 23rd. I’ll look into it…
