Heroes Preview: Season 3 Episode 8 (3.08) Villains

Written by Sam | October 28th, 2008 | 214 Comments |

So how did the bad guys become the bad guys, and the (sorta) good guys get their (sorta) good guy start? That’s the premise of episode 8, titled, “Villains”. The episode, according to the description, will be seen through the eyes of Hiro Nakamura, last seen eating disgusting paste and the dung of some animal before going white-eyed on us. Lost in the past, but (probably) without the ability to change things, Hiro follows the Petrelli boys, in particular Arthur and Nathan, evil mastermind Linderman, and a bespectacled Sylar before he was Sylar. Elle is also there, as well as HRG, Meredith, and Company Man Eric Roberts makes a return appearance. Here’s your preview for Heroes 3.08 “Villains”, which will air in two weeks, November 10, 2008.

(FYI: For non U.S. readers, NBC has decided to pre-empt next week’s episode in favor of extensive U.S. Presidential election coverage, as well as an elections-themed Saturday Night Live special episode.)

Official Description:

TO PREPARE FOR THE CONFRONTATION AHEAD, HIRO (MASI OKA) EXPLORES WHAT FORCES — AND FAMILIAR FACES — HELPED TWIST SYLAR (ZACHARY QUINTO), FLINT (BLAKE SHIELDS) AND ARTHUR PETRELLI (ROBERT FORSTER) INTO VILLAINS

To prepare for the confrontation ahead, Hiro (Masi Oka) follows respected businessman, husband and father Arthur Petrelli (guest star Robert Forster) in the days before he “died” — to discover what drove him to create rival company Pinehearst and strike at Angela (Cristine Rose). Later, a moment unfolds where Sylar (Zachary Quinto), horrified and guilt-ridden, might have stopped his murderous pursuit of abilities — that is, if H.R.G. (Jack Coleman) and Elle (guest star Kristen Bell) had swayed from their monstrous assignment. Finally, under the wing of Company man Thompson (guest star Eric Roberts), agent-in-training Meredith (guest star Jessalyn Gelsig) watches her new life go up in smoke, following the arrival of her hot-headed brother.

Jimmy Jean-Louis, Malcolm McDowell, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Ron Perkins, Blake Shields, and Jeff Staron guest star.

I don’t know. I mean, I love the show as much as the next guy, but I get the feeling the election is probably a bit more important than Heroes. I mean, what is more important, saving the world for real, or watching some fictional folks save a fictional world?

Marie on October 28, 2008 | Reply

I think they could have let MSNBC, FOX and CNN handle it. They’re just milking the Tina/Palin thing to the bone. I watch NBC for Heroes and an escape into a fantasy. I watch CNN for news and election coverage.

iamthetie on October 29, 2008 | Reply

Watching a bunch of comedians ridicule the presidential candidates is not important at all, especially since it’s gonna be recycled material. If they were postponing Heroes for something like a National Debate then I’d be more understanding. This is just NBC wanting to remind everyone of Tina Fey’s impressions the night before the election.

The majority of voters are already decided, just give me Heroes!

The two weeks will fly by, your country is anticipating its biggest moment in 4 years. Surely that’s got to be a whole lot more interesting and exciting than Heroes. I mean, as much as I love the show, this is so much more important for you.

The election doesn’t affect me because I live in England, so I’m a bit annoyed I’ll have to wait two weeks to watch it as we’re currently on Episode 5 here. But surely for you guys you won’t even notice its not on?

It seems that when abilities are inherited they are the same or similar to the parent or sibling. Maurey and Matt, Arthur and sylar and peter, meredith and flint. So how does a synthetic flying man and fire girl make an indestrucible cheerleader. Does anyone else think she is a synth too? I cant think of another explanation.

Pat on November 4, 2008 Subscribed to comments via email | Reply

No, I think Clair is “Special” because she’s a natural(born that way) like Adam (I’m pretty sure they didnt have the formula in feudal japan.) even though she was born from two synthetic’s. Her DNA probably can’t be changed and I think the only reason adam turned to dust is because he’d died so many times and he was old enough to turn to dust. After 400 years if they took away what was keeping you alive what would be left? I don’t think he even ate anymore. I think if Petrelli got Clair she wouldn’t dust because she’s still young.

do you all think Peter will get his powers back with Claires Blood?
i mean it seems like the likely reason

Venonn on October 29, 2008 | Reply

Peter has to get his facecut up to form the scar from the future first. Then he will probably get injected with the formula and start getting his abilities back.

wollie on October 28, 2008 | Reply

I think there’s a special part to the petrelli familly’s power, thats why peter dindt die, and probaly will get his power back.

Think Fast on October 28, 2008 | Reply

Sylar saved Peter. My guess is that Sylar is playing double agent by trying to convince his dad that he is on their side but will come back out swinging eventually, but probably on his own side since he now knows both his parents are manipulative a-holes. Peter may join Sylar and sorta form their own anti-Pinehearst/Company group and kick major booty… granted Peter gets his powers back and learns from his bro to not be such a dumbass.

I’d also like to comment that this is the second episode in a row they killed off a character. Besides that, I would be happy if powerless Maya never returns except maybe in a body bag. This last episode is certainly putting Heroes back on track to the quality of the first season.

Noo i don’t want wait 2 weeks. Will be show only Arthur, Nathan, Sylar, Linderman and Peter?? Better would be to show all company. Sometimes i dont understand this hehe Maury Parkman is dead and Adam is dead but they was very important. At first another people spoke about they as very bad villians. And now?? Just disappear. Angela saw they in her dream and if she can see future that should comes true. I thought they all will be an big army of villian and now everybody are kill. Maybe they will return?? No that seems not possible unfortunately heh.

Remember in the second hour of the season premiere (Butterfly Effect), right before Sylar is about to slice into Elle’s head, he says something like, “I’ve killed a lot of people Elle, and you’re just as much to blame for that as I am, probably moreso”? I guess now we’ll finally find out what was meant by that seemingly left-field statement.

Why does everyone have to be related? Elle and Claire were going to be scripted as half-sisters, but that got dropped. If it stuck, that would make Sylar Elle’s step-uncle, weird since Elle’s presumed to be Sylar’s baby-mama (even weirder still if that spoiler’s true that she got over that whole killing her father thing, and trying to kill her thing, to have his child). But then again, the emotions and characters of the Heroes spin on a dime lately.

Will on October 28, 2008 | Reply

Ohmygod.
guys!!!
obviously, Arthur stopped him from hitting too hard!!
Arthur asked Sylar and sylar was soo clueless, and then peter even brought it up after claire asked him.
Seven stories!
The line i think was:
“We’re going to bring the fight to the enemy” and not wait. He said this right after or before asking sylar about why peter didn’t die.
Obviously he wants Peter to go back to everyone, and then let everyone know what’s going on. Then….NATHAN GOES TO PINEHEARST, boooom trap!

come on guys, are you Heroes regulars? ya gotta be able to see simple stuff like this!

Belle on November 10, 2008 Subscribed to comments via email | Reply

Lol im a heroes ‘regular’ and im still pretty certain it was Sylar that saved Peters ass not Arthur.

Pyler on October 28, 2008 Subscribed to comments via email | Reply

Hey Will…it is much more likely that Sylar slowed Peter down to allow him to escape alive, but to also show that he was on Arthur’s side. He is playing Arthur to find out more about Pinehurst and his mother/father. Arthur asked Sylar that question retorically and Sylar was playing dumb. Arthur probably knew what happened, but he doesn’t care. He has plans for both Sylar and Peter.

Pyler on October 28, 2008 Subscribed to comments via email | Reply

Also, Peter can not get his powers back by using Claire’s blood. In season 2 Claire’s blood was mixed with Mohinder’s to cure the Virus. Peter does not have the Virus, he has no powers. Claire’s blood would do nothing but heal his current wounds.

SuperSmart on October 29, 2008 | Reply

yh mate I agree with YOU sylar was clueless but arther was like. “hm I Wonder Who Did That.”

I agree that WILL is right.

Waxl on October 30, 2008 Subscribed to comments via email | Reply

Here’s the deal, it was Sylar who ’saved’ Peter from the fall, though Arthur knows this, but is playing along with Sylar’s ruse, it obvious, plus it’s a FACT.

Episode 8, Hiro witnesses the events leading to supossed death of Arthur. In episode 9, Arthur launches a preemptive strike against Hiro in Africa, then sends out Flint & Knox to hunt down Peter and Claire. Elle runs into and faces off with Sylar at Pinhearst, Suresh begins testing his new formula, and Parkman attempt to get into Angela’s mind to awaken her.

In relation to Peter regaining his power, this will happen in episode 10, titled “The Eclipse - Part 1″

Peter and Maya will be the only ones immune to the effects of the powerstripping eclipse, since they already lost their powers, because of Arthur. The eclipse will have the opposite effect on both Peter and Maya, giving them their abilities back.

The passing of the eclipse will disable evolved human abilities in a similar way to Arthur’s ability, albeit only temporarily. Arthur is aware of this occurrence and aims to maintain his power and his team’s powers by recreating the formula.

I don’t know about you guys but I sometimes think that Peter and Claire completly forget that they have the ability to heal people with their blood. Think about it, after Nathan got shot Peter could have just injected him with his blood but like always Peter is clueless and forgetts about his important power. After Peter fell seven stories and got cut and bruised badly Claire doesn’t even think about injecting him with her blood to stop the pain that he is feeling, instead she helps him clean his wounds. Lol! That’s a comlete waste of one of the coolest powers in the show because I know that I would not mind having Claires ability.

As for who stopped Peter from dying from the fall I personally think it was Sylar but then again Will does bring up a good point. I do though have one hypothesis as to how Peter might get his abilites back. I realize that Authur took Peter’s abilities but think about it future Peter didn’t tell Peter to take Syalr’s abilities for nothing there is a hidden purpose to it. Lets not also forget that Sylar at first was thought to not have any abilities at all. Then there is also the fact that Sylar was able to use his abilites while they were being surpressed. I personally think that there is a possiblity that Peter still has Sylar’s ability and just doesn’t know it yet.

Gilbo on October 29, 2008 | Reply

the writers have already said that peter doesnt have the ability to heal people with his blood like claire does, because he can only mimic what she does, he doesn’t actually have the whole ‘healing blood’ thing.
something like that though…

Belle on October 29, 2008 Subscribed to comments via email | Reply

i agree that Sylar saved Peter. i think theres more to Sylar than meets the eye.
Also Claire couldnt just inject Peter with her blood as she’d need a needle n im guessin thats not something she carries around with her alot.

Pat on November 4, 2008 Subscribed to comments via email | Reply

She did have knives in her kitchen though. She stepped in front of a train the day before, why not cut herself over a cup especially since she can’t feel it. It’s her Peter for crying out loud and aspirin ain’t helping a 7 story fall victim.

WOAH

spartan that 2nd paragraph was possibly the best thought process written on this thread or w.e haahah that all is true, and freakin’ awesome. I could only imagine Peter rediscovering his powers and it just being awesome. Because, I mean he HAS to get them back at some point, and not only does that seem like the most reasonable way to do it, but the coolest.. claire’s blood would be just kinda silly or stupid.

And about the first paragraph: I totally agree, alllllll the time powers are forgotten or just not used. I was expecting Claire (after we see peter go out then window and then the show breaks to commercials) to automatically rush Peter to somewhere where she could give him her blood, but then flipp, no Peter actually makes it fine. I hope this isn’t so they can later inject him with her blood and give him his powers back that way.
Another time in this veryyy episode was definitely when Arthur comes in the room flinging electricity, he must have loadsss of other powers. Which also brings up whether when he told Peter’s ability, if he justt took the ability to mimic others, and then Arthur is mimicking his own son when he saw Peter use the electricity. The sounds the most reasonable. Because I understand that he can control Maya’s power, but what about Sylar’s hunger? does he have absolute control over his mind? And why the hell didn’t he take Maurie’s power before killing him??

Wow this has been reelly long. Still i reeelly like the idea of Sylar’s power being of use, it just makes soo much sense, I’ve been wondering for awhile if that’s Sylar’s true power (need of understanding and ability to do so) he DEFINITELY still held onto that in Season two, when he had ‘no powers’. And then that makes perfect sense in why Future peter tells Peter to take Sylar’s power! It’s like the only reason that makes sense.. awesomeee.. haaha.
Wow this season has been so good! What’s uppp with those ratings??

So Gabriel cut someones head open to impress Elle. I think Arthur tried to have Nathan killed for some amount of reasons which included him not having a power, hence the car crash that disabled his wife, but he flew for the first time and lived so Arthur decided to let him live as he was “special”. But when Anglea found this out she was going to stab Arthur and he says “It needs to be done.”.
