Heroes Preview: Season 3 Episode 4 (3.04) I am Become Death
I have to say, Heroes’ detours into the future and back to the past have been pretty entertaining stuff. It’s always great fun to see what people are up to in the future (a domesticated Sylar???), or how they got to be where they. Season 1’s “Five Years Gone” was one of that season’s better episodes, and Heroes once again journeys into the future with the two Peters in Episode 4 of Season 3, in an episode titled, “I am Become Death”. It would appear that Mohinder’s little experiments with adrenaline-giving powers was not a one-time deal after all. And what is the deal with Future Claire? Looks like our little Claire Bear is all grown up and pissed off … at everyone. Personally, I blame it on all the cheerleading the girl had to endure throughout high school.
Official Description:
TASKED TO SAVE A WORLD DESTINED FOR DESTRUCTION, PETER MUST EMBRACE A WILD, DANGEROUS ABILITY TO BETTER PREPARE FOR THE STRUGGLE AHEAD
Seeing a future where nearly everyone has abilities, a world destined for destruction, Peter resolves to prevent this earth-shattering end — whatever the cost — and so takes on a dark, unwieldy ability to save the world — gambling (wrong) that it won’t destroy him and everything he loves first. After allowing Angela’s (Cristine Rose) half of “the formula” to be stolen, Hiro (Masi Oka) and Ando (James Kyson Lee) set out to uncover the identity of the Villain who hired Daphne (guest star Brea Grant) — and must consult with the person who knows these rogues best…Adam Monroe (guest star David Anders). After the bloodbath at the bank, H.R.G. (Jack Coleman) resolves to get rid of his new partner. Meanwhile, determined to be a hero, Claire (Hayden Panettiere) hits the road after one of the Villains from H.R.G.’s old files. Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) gives in to impulse. Linderman (guest star Malcolm McDowell) and Molly (guest star Adair Tishler) return in unexpected manners. A new romance ignites between two Heroes.
Randall Bentley, Ashley Crow, Jessalyn Gilsig, Ronald Guttman, Jamie Hector, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Ntare Mwine and Thomas Robinson guest star.

HOLY CRAP!!!!! EPISODE 3 WAS FAB….WHAT IS SYLAR DOING IN THE KITCHEN COOKING LOL??
he is not
Man I freaking love Sylar haha. Can’t wait!
you wanna kiss him
yeah episode 3 was awesome !!! and next week omg !!! and does peter punch claire ? if he does so funny and shocking
!!!!! and I love sylar , I saw the promo yesterday forgetting that Peter and Sylar are related but I just saw it now and was like there meeting and sylar making me laugh !!!! I CAN’T WAIT TILL NEXT MONDAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but you are so little to see hero
Raise your hand if you are tired of seeing Sylar use TK all the time…ok I get it you love your TK and it’s the swiss army knife of all powers but enough is enough already, granted Jesse is an exception you have to shut him up but freeze someone once in a while use some of those other stolen powers you have Sylar. Peter he needs to start accidentally using other powers create a magnetically charged nuke attack, order somebody to sit, find someone who’s lost, tell a machine to go online and find info or conjure an illusion to confuse somebody these writers need to put him into an areal battle, fight under water with gills anything but TK or stopping time…Mix it up, create an EM field while supper punching someone with supper speed or unknowingly hear someone’s hart rate change that will give a good enough reason to read there mind. Here we have 2 potential gods and they keep using TK like it’s all they know.
EXACTLY!!!!! You have said it my friend. You are completely right 100%. I watch this show and I always think what I would do in their place. Like, why didn’t Peter do this or why doesn’t he just do that. The writers really do need to make peter and sylar use their powers in more imaginative ways.
He can’t if you go to Comic Book Resources the writers Joe and Aron say Sylar lost every ability except TK and the ones he got in season 3. Bridget’s — touch history, Jesse’s Sound manipulation, Bob’s Midas touch and Clair’s Regeneration ability.
Sylar is soooooooooooooooo hot and awesome!
Yes I’m jumping on the “I can’t wait to see how Sylar becomes Mr. Rodgers” but I caught a little miss up in last night episode. If you remember Clarie getting ready to leave for school she jumps into her car, but if you think back to Season 2 her car was stolen. Did I miss something or are the writers getting lazy on us.
Its called auot theft insurance lol
sorry auto
Wow people, can’t wait till it goes on air… What will I do in the meantime?
What’s the point of shooting future Peter if he can’t die? Special bullets????
That’s not Future Peter. It’s Present Peter in the Future lol. Also, I think Claire just shoots him to wound him so she has a chance to do something to him before he heals. Remember, healing isn’t instant, it takes a few seconds. Also, Peter still feels pain.
I think Future Claire is a really cool character. I like her story so far. She can’t feel pain, and so she longs to make others feel the pain that she can’t feel. I love it. It’s dark and twisted and cool lol.
CAN”T WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK!!!
Another question.. Can Matt see the future now? :S
Remember, shoot Peter or Claire in the head and they’re dead. Ya know, blow up the head. Looked like a pretty powerful gun to me. As for Sylar and his TK, at this point in the season, that’s the only power he has at this moment. Remember, he’s trying to find out how to regain his powers.
Thats incorrect bro. Remember Suresh shot Bennet in the head and killed him in season 2. That bullet would have torn his brain apart if it penetrated through the back of his skull, and it would have done even more damage if it didn’t penetrate the back of his skull. And all that it took to completely repair all of that damage was a small amount of Clairs blood, or more percisly whatever it is thats “IN” Clairs blood that causes this regenerative effect. That, plus several other occasions where someone with the regenerative power has come back to life after having something penetrate their brain, shows that it shooting one of those people in the head doesn’t really kill them. I mean they will kind of be dead, but in a temporary brain dead sort of way. Their bodies will continue to survive and their brain will start working again once whatever is stuck in it is removed.
When Adam told Peter that the woman was going to shoot him in the head and that there is no coming back from that, I think that was because she was going to shoot him with a shotgun loaded with buckshot. That would have completely disintegrated his head and brain; there wouldn’t have been anything left to regenerate. Although, his body might be able to reconstruct his head and brain based on his DNA, but things like his memories and personality are acquired characteristics and would not be recoverable. He would be like a new born child, a blank slate, the hardware would be there but the stored data would be lost forever.
I think Sylar already has all his powers back, we’ve only seen him use TK ’cause it’s really all he has needed so far. No “enemy” of his required an other power than TK. As for Matt… woow! cant think of any explination for his “future sight eyes”
As for Future Peter’s Headshot, i think he is dead, untill the bullet is removed from his head. We learned that from Adam, “There is no coming back from that”.
I really cant wait for next week, i’ve been thinking about this episode all day, replaying it in my head. Hiro and Ando in level 5 cell, wonder how that’s gonna work out.
I think Matt can paint the future because last season Bob told him that “whatever the brain controls you control” and as we see from Sylar the brain controls how to use powers
Actually, last season bob told matt that “whatever the MIND controls you control”, which means that he can make people do what he wants, but he cannot do what they themselves can physically do…
Its gotta be summat to do with that music…
LOL! Britney Spears
OMG! Ep. 3 was great! I was shocked to see some of the villain’s die so quickly. I was sure the writers would draw them out and such, but I’m glad they’re keeping us on our toes. This season is so awesome.
What’s up with Syler and Mr. Muggles? That was hilarious! I can’t wait for next Monday!
Did I just see Sylar hugging Peter, WTF
Okay this is gonna be unorganized and long, so you may just want to skip it, but here are my thoughts on Claire’s powers compared to others, if Sylar is indeed right, and she’s “more” special than others, specifically regarding other regenerators like Adam. Also a little about future Sylar and Claire’s idea to shoot Peter.
Sylar said she’s special, Adam’s and Peters regeneration may not be exactly the same. For example perhaps they regenerate on a molecular level when signals are sent from their brain that certain body parts are injured, but what if Claire’s powers are different maybe more complex having evolved, if so then the present day Peter may not have absorbed the new version yet. Also we assume that Peter absorbs all powers near him, but we don’t know if there are any limits, there could be sub-divisions of powers that we don’t know about, physical versus mental etc. Peter may only be able to acquire a certain range of abilities.
Also we don’t know how fast he absorbs the powers, a somehow more complex power may take longer or be more difficult to absorb. And just having powers isn’t enough we’ve seen enough that Peter can’t control all of his powers, people may be hardwired with a better affinity with their own power. To be honest we’ve never seen Peter go toe to toe with someone facing them with their own power when they are very experienced using it. He beat Matt with mind powers but Matt isn’t exactly an expert. He beat his father the nightmare man, but seemed like less of an over powering and more of an out manuevering. Sylars ability lets him learn things far above and beyond what even the heroes themselves know about their abilities. A person versed in using a flamethrower may know alot about it from it’s use, but may be unable to build one, or explain how it works, or how to improve it on a technical level. Because of Claires experiences and testing of her abilities, she may have gained a deeper understanding of her regeneration even if it’s not a conscious understanding.
If we practice something often enough we get better at it, it may be the same way with her regeneration, we saw her trying to get hit by a train, she may have attempted similar methods that could certainly under the right circumstances deal significant trauma to the brain. Her bodies experience repairing itself may give her an advantage. Although this would work for Adam too considering he’s probably used his ability to survive countless more times than Claire.
Again however her power may be different than Adam’s specifically, perhaps his power requires his brain to tell his body to repair itself. We saw people doing things like “astral projection” that may not be precise but that’s what it is most like from things I’ve seen in games movies etc. There may be a level of human consciousness beyond the body, if they can leave their bodies and see places then their “self” may not be limited to their brain.
What if Claire could regenerate herself begining with nothing, starting only with her “soul/self.” Hiro Teleports, but how does he do it, does he move space and time around him, or do his molecules travel from one place to another while the universe stays still? If it is the second case then how fast in real time does he materialize, does he materialize fully in a single instant? From what we see it seems that way, but what if we could slow it down to one billionth of a billionth of a billionth of a second? Would we start from his astral self being present, then one sub atomic particle appearing at a time? No idea myself, but who knows what the creators/writers are thinking.
Future Sylar, to be honest he’s always been a complicated character, he’s not much of a cold blooded killer, his killing has a purpose, stopping the mexican girl’s brother from interfering, gaining new powers, he hasn’t gone on any rampages, or killed anyone slowly relishing the kill, sure he cuts their heads open and reads their minds with a little braile, but that’s how he learns his powers, he doesn’t seem to enjoy it, it’s like his job, or profession, he just does it.
And he’s killed alot of people, and I’m sure beyond just powers he’s learned about them and their lives etc. We haven’t seem him kill anyone who was like a saint as far as I can remember so maybe he’s going to absorb someone who is, what if he learns Peter’s ability and about Peter and took it to heart, his kindness and desire to protect people. Also absorbing Peter’s power would allow him to absorb new powers without killing people, or maybe he’d learn the haitian’s(sp?) ability and be able to block his own powers or “hunger.” Also his mind may have been altered by someone with mental powers, who knows what has happened after all this time. Or maybe Claire’s dad gets through to him somehow, Peter’s mom is trying to manipulate him as his mother, but Claire’s dad might give him a solid father figure, who knows.
Claire may have some purpose behind wanting to shoot and imobilize Peter, removing his brain and putting a stone in their and then putting his brain in a strong container would probably prevent any kind of meaningful regeneration from either parts regardless of the scope of his regenerative abilites. Also the Nightmare man may be manipulating her, using her trauma when Sylar took her powers and blaming it on Peter not being there to save her. Hence it being his fault she endured that pain, also since in the original timeline she didn’t get attacked by Sylar in that instant, so maybe the “new” future Claire resents the fact that he went back in time and forced her to live through that experience.
In the old future heroes were hunted, in the new future everyone has powers probably creating some pretty crazy chaos. The previous future Claire from season 3 ep 1 may have been stopping Peter from going through time and changing things or again she may have been being controlled by the Matt’s Dad and Peter was running cause he didn’t want to hurt her maybe. I dunno just some guesses, it was kind of weird him being so powerful and having him running away at the start of the episode, when he goes into the past he’s very confident in his powers and virtual invincibility, so it’s hard to imagine something that would make him run, perhaps a power inhibiter person or device.
i think you’re right agabmut, all through seasons 1 and 2 i was thinking about how different people have reacted to different powers, and there seems to be some sort of loop-hole in them, when sylar when home to his adopted mother in season 1, hiro froze time, but somehow sylar cancelled it out, also when matt was abducted HRG said “trying to read my thoughts matt? unfortunately you cant thanks to my friend here” but matt still managed to get the name clare and when he was spying on HRG he got the name sylar, so there is something to do with mental and physical power, deffinitely!
Its gonna be so cool seeing a future where everyone has powers! How far into the future do you think itll be? Didnt Hiro see the world being destroyed in the future where more people have powers? So how can the Peters go to the future if there isnt one? That clip from trailer where two people are flying through the streets looks cool. Must mean like everyone has powers. Andos laser power is such a typical japanese stereotype though!
if Mohinder created a formula that could give powers to anyone, i wonder if it would work on animals to. lol it would be so hilarious if Mr. muggles got super powers lol. I SOOOOO CANT WAIT TILL NEXT EPISODE!!!! i never thought i would be this exited for a mondey, life is funny that way.
Haha yeah, atleast it’s not purple
And I think FP probably went to a future that’s earlier than the future Hiro went to. That would explain the fact that there still is a Future lol
Hmm.. If the world exploded, and Claire survived.. can she survive in space? I dunno if she can.. she seemed to be suffocating in the box…
Which by the way was annoying to me. She suffocated because the fire ate up the air around Meredith’s hands, but Meredith herself seemed completely fine. She doesn’t need air because she can make fire? Explain that please. :S
Maybe Meredith body is adapted to her power. I mean if you think about it. I dont think it would make since for someone who can make fire, but then they can suffocate from their own powers. Why doesnt Tracey catch frostbite when she freeze something?
very very good points Brian
I think that Meridith was playing psychological games with Claire. Meridith talked about ‘waterboarding’ and the mind believing that it is drowning – then Meridith does the dramatic flame thing with her hands and points out that she is using up the oxygen.
Thus, Claire panics and BELIEVES that she is suffocating – but it was all a mind trick by Meredith
This looks so freaky!
