Heroes Preview: Season 3 Episode 11 (3.11) The Eclipse Part 2

Written by Sam | November 25th, 2008 | 191 Comments |

The second part of Heroes’ mega two-part episode, “The Eclipse” continues next week after an episode filled with revelations and confrontations. The eclipse itself, it seems does more than just turn everything dark — it takes away powers. Meanwhile, we finally learn why Daphne is so determined not to lose her powers at the hands of Arthur Petrelli, and the Petrelli boys have a bit of a sibling tussle in the jungles of Haiti. The second part of “The Eclipse” should keep the family squabbling coming (though not necessarily from the Petrelli clan), and as Claire seems to hang between life and death, dear old Dad’s got a couple of villains in his sights. Let’s just hope Elle and Sylar savors that kiss they’re sharing, cause one or both of them may be kissing something else goodbye in “The Eclipse” Part 2…

Official Description:

THE HEROES CONTINUE TO DISCOVER THEIR TRUE ABILITIES UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF THE ECLIPSE

The eclipse continues to impact the Heroes’ abilities as Elle (Kristen Bell) and Sylar (Zachary Quinto) face off against a vengeful H.R.G. (Jack Coleman) while Claire (Hayden Panettiere) struggles to survive. In Haiti, Peter and Nathan (Milo Ventimiglia and Adrian Pasdar) join forces with the Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis) to battle the Haitian’s brother, Baron Samedi (guest star Demetrius Grosse), and Nathan comes to a shocking decision. In the meantime, Ando (James Kyson Lee), Sam (guest star Seth Green) and Frack (guest star Breckin Meyer) work hard to get Hiro’s (Masi Oka) memory back with the help of the “9th Wonders” comic books at a local comic bookstore.

Brea Grant and Robert Forster guest stars.

I totally agree her wig looks so fake…it doesnt move naturally when she walks.

Finally someone else is bothered by it too. It’s been annoying me for a while, the roots are too ligth the hair colour is unnatural. It’s been looking fake for a while and everyone’s been telling me to stop paying so much attention but I find it distracting (she used to have nice hair).

akailala on November 25, 2008 | Reply

Well I’m hoping that somehow the eclipse will give Peter back his powers since it would be the opposite of whats happening to everyone else. What I don’t get is, how was it that the older heroes didn’t lose their powers when the first eclipse on the show happened? I think that’s one of the first major mistake on behalf of the writers I noticed.

Christopher on November 25, 2008 | Reply

i agree!!!! there is more and more mistakes :(:(:(:(

Casey the Great on November 25, 2008 | Reply

This Eclipse thing is a good idea ruined by lazy writers.

Point 1)Last night after Pete and Nate fell out of the sky, Pete says to Nathan \”There was an eclipse the first day you flew,\” and Nathan agreed. But that\’s not true. Nathan flew 6 months before the eclipse, when Linderman\’s/Arthur\’s goons attacked his car. Also, Pete\’s powers (starting with the dreaming) began before the eclipse, as did Elle\’s, Claire\’s, Sylar\’s and just about everyone Sylar initially killed before actually showing up on the show. So to say the eclipse \”gave them their powers\” just flat out contradicts continuity.

Point 2) Full solar eclipses are very rare. When they do happen, they only last a few minutes (not all day or several hours or whatever is going on in this show) and they are not visible over a wide area. An eclipse visible in, say, New York, would not be visible in Haiti. It would just be another sunny, muggy day there like any other. This is because of the immense distances and extreme angles involved in an eclipse. It\’s all a matter of perspective.

Point 3) Lawrence Kansas (Where Daphne ran to) is not a freaking corn farming community. It\’s a bustling, active and URBAN college town with interstates, stores and very few actual farmers. Also, they have great concerts there.

ok for your first point, the heroes, villans powers did not manifest until the eclipse, they were starting to grow before that. and also since the earth and moon were moving the eclipse could have happend in more than 1 place at different times. and also, lawrence kansas has rural areas. well i adressed all of ur points see if u can argue the first 1 i bet u cant. lol

beacause there are more than 1 generation of heroes and there is something different about this one eclipse.

David K on November 26, 2008 | Reply

god not read every reply, but

peter Made and assupmtion, not a statement.

also. i believe, the eclipse takes away there powers until it goes back again, while moons is passing they loose powers until the eclipse is over it returns.

and maybe by coinsidense not many heroes tried using there powers duing, past eclipses, so may not know about it.

one and only problem i see here is, ADAM would have died at any eclipse, by temporarily loosing his powers, (but there would have been a fix to that but they screwed that up by the way they killed him which was flawed IMO) cause they took his healing power away but he should have survived for a while as his healing blood was still in him for a little while after, arthur took away his ability to make healing blood (or adrenaline) so the blood he had in him should temporarily have healing properties, but then he wud die

ghaven on November 29, 2008 | Reply

I think thats because the earlier eclipse was a partial one (Note: peter asks mohinder in the taxi- whether the eclipse would be total for which mohinder says no). Hence no one lost their powers. Also a total eclipse occurs once in 360 yrs.
This is what i think. I’m not sure if there’s any other explaination.

I don’t know why everyone assumes that this eclipse is like any other before it…
Maybe this one is “special”. why would Arthur be unsettled at it’s coming?
That will definately explain why Adam survived for so long and why Arthur is making such a big deal about this eclipse.

SnakeHead on November 25, 2008 | Reply

Hmmm you’re right, if the eclipse affected the previous generation of heroes (and villains), ADAM would have been long dead. As for Claire, well then, maybe if she survives this one she would be thankful that she can’t feel pain… *pokes Claire with needle*

Can’t wait for next week, this has been an intense episode.

does anyone thinks its werid that before daphne was shown wearing her leg braces that she told her dad that “it” was happening again and that she needed something (i assume were the braces) again from her father? if she has lost her powers before how is that possible? also arthur has been threatning to return her to “how he found her”. does this mean that when he found her she did not have an ability or is it that he made her aware of her ability when she was use to being paralyzed? either way this is beginning to get interesting or filled with plot-holes.

wonder if HRG will actually take the shot? we know that sylar wont die since we have seen spoiler images of him in volume 4. plus he is a star of the show. as for elle, its a bit more complicated. she is suppose to be sylar’s baby mama, but who knows with this show. my bet is that the outcome of this fight will lead to sylar finally becoming a hero and will lead to person he will become in the future

Michael on November 25, 2008 Subscribed to comments via email | Reply

read the graphic novel

saintjust21 on November 25, 2008 | Reply

HRG doesn’t shoot them, in the preview for the next episode we see Elle restrained and Sylar about to have his throat cut by HRG while Elle looks on and pleads “no”

in the newest graphic novel we see how Daphne discovers her powers and its during the last solar eclipse. the one that happened in season one….which DID NOT give any of the heroes we know from season one their powers, they had all discovered their powers BEFORE the eclipse.

in the GN we see that company guy come and visit daphne and her father just after she discovers her powers, she runs off…. sooo.

i have no clue what author is talking about ‘leave her how he found her’ but if he did take away her powers like she’s afraid of she’d be a cripple again.

to be honest i don’t think the writers really thought out this “eclipse” thing. Its screwing up continuity so horribly and has viewers who actually pay attention to the STORY-LINE and ORDER OF EVENTS scratching their heads saying… what?

and it seems they either don’t care, or don’t know how an eclipse work, like someone further up stated, eclipses only effect a certain portion of the globe at a time… the united states and africa would see the same thing.

its not the acting, or the story lines, or double crossing or any of that thats ruining this show slowly, very slowly for me… its the lack of continuity or rather the writers complete lack of ingenuity to make certain plot devices WORK.

their leaving huge plot holes all over the place in season 3 and in the process they’re destroying everything meaningful in season 1.

i’m losing hope in this show sadly, i’ll still watch, it’s better than most stuff on t.v. they’re just mangling it like the writers are writing some bizarre fan fiction of heroes.

rant over.

KaoticK on December 1, 2008 | Reply

Daphne told her dad, “It’s happening again” Meaning, this had happened before, maybe during another eclipse of some sort. I dont read the graphic novels, but which eclipse? The one where everyone was looking at it? Or the one on the night of Nathan’s car accident.

I am dissappointed also. I just watch to pass the time as opposed to watch because its a great show. I think the writing has gotten poor.

By the way, how many years of comic books are they printing. Maybe they should just go to the Publisher?

pops on November 25, 2008 | Reply

thanks for the clarifiaction and i couldn’t agree with you any more about the shows writers. heroes is probably my favorite network show, but the amount of plot holes is really starting to get unbearable. for me its seems that they lost a grip of the over story line after season 2 was cut short and are more interested in putting out an entertaining episode to capture ratings instead of developing a cohesive story line that would ultitametly save the show. unfortunately, it will be us, the true followers of the show, who will be lost if this crap continues.

also i saw that canadian spoiler in which HRG has captured both Elle and Sylar and he is about to cut Sylar’s throat, but i saw another image at heroesrevealed.com that shows Elle laying on the beach covered in blood with a line of blood across her skull as if Sylar had openned it up. also in the image is Sylar kneeling over her as her poor what looks to be gasoline on her in an attempt to burn her. looks like the whole Elle baby mama think might be out the window.

we want to see more things like what happened in the last few episodes…heroes seems to get better everyweek, and everyweek i end up thinking i cant wait till the next episode….i dont really care if theres an eclipse all over the world….

but its good to see that no one has ability at the moment…and know i cant wait to find out what happens when this worldwide eclipse goes…who gets powers back who doesnt, will peter defeat arthur…

cant wait….come on heroes…bring it on…

who’s complaining? i’m just voicing my opinion on the show and the last time i checked this was the forum to do. i have seen previous fourms where “fans” simply trash the show without any evidence to back them up. what i was trying to do was start a conversation regarding what appears to be off about the show this season. i am not like RICK who says he watches to pass time. i trully enjoy heroes and spent the last week rewatching all the previous episodes including the 2nd season trying to determine if its me or are there real contradictions in the story line and there are. will this stop me from watching the show? Hells no. so how about you “stop wining K! or maybe you should go watch some news

i agree its not like you can stop millions of people from asking what is happening or where is the connection? sooner or later they’ll have to explain it or else more people will watch less… were not complaining in fact were helping saving the show someone has to speak up because if they don’t more viewers well they wont view..

that is exactly what i was getting at. also at the end of the spoiler for next weeks episode shows Claie doing the traditions gasp for air as she comes back to life. so we can be safe to assume that her powers and those of other heroes will come back, but i don’t believe it will bring back peter’s powers. he is shown in future images still using a gun to shoot Arthur. so i would guess that it will take more for him to regain his abililty.

If Isaac is dead, and has been, who’s writing the 9th Wonders comic book?

Tarot on November 25, 2008 Subscribed to comments via email | Reply

Good question. The only thing I can think of is that he gave that courier his sketch book… or maybe Isaac was just one member of a team…but one would think the Company would have put a lid on that…

Remember…comics are published like 3 months in advance but I believe we are well past that point. Maybe Isaac did a lot more. Just another plot hole to file.

Seriously, i think the show is alright. lets face it, this is not a political affair where people vote and make a choice. this is a story written by people who want to and watched by others who wish to.

We all love the show that why we watch it. so why dont we just let the writers show whats on their mind. if you don’t like it you can ……….

Also, I ponder if when the eclipse is over, will they (meaning the Petrelli guys, Arthur, Peter and Sylar) go back to their original powers? No add ons, they have to re-acquire all that they got? And if that’s the case, will Arthur go back to being comatose?

I don’t think arthur will revert back to being comatose b/c he has already healed himself of that a few episodes back. it will only affect him going forward

Umm… I was wondering where are these comic book issues coming from? Are these the one that Isaac Mendez handed over to another guy when he was about to die? If so, then after his death the future has changed a lot of times, then how can the comic books still be so accurate?

It is possible one or more other precogs saw the comics Issac was making, inquired about where they were published, and went in to write them once Issac died.
To think I sorta started this and ended up coming up with my own potential answer.

no-one else can write the ninth wonders it wasnt a company isaac did it in his spare time for money. if any one else wanted a comic that predicted the future they would have to write thier own not steal from a dead guy

saintjust21 on November 25, 2008 | Reply

no way, isaac was the one with creators rights to 9th wonders. its the same style of comic art as well. its still isaac’s comic… but how it still is predicting the future accurately is beyond me.

the future has changed so many times.

speaking of that… i don’t think we’ll ever see a future noah as Sylar’s son. the present has been screwed up so much from what it was suppose to be by peter that i don’t think the future we saw in that episode can even be counted on to happen in entirety. such some things may happen. nathan may turn into the bad guy president, but he’s been poised to make that step since the first season.

that scene on the beach i believe is Sylar ‘cremating’ Elle. I don’t think he killed her, but he’s showing her reverence in death. thats symbolic he has never shown any sort of respect to the dead before. especially his own kills.

i think they both turn on author in the next two episodes, especially our father.

and author learns of this, kills Elle to show Sylar hes not one to be screwed with. He’ll kill her in a Sylar way just to show his superiority and to mess with his head. mr. petrelli seems to be very fond of that. after of which we’ll see the dead elle scene.

Sylar will go fight mr. petrelli alone and get a whopping. Cue in peter and the haitian. Author realizes his power are gone. peter tries to shoot author but doesn’t have the guts so sylar takes the gun and shoots author in the head.

bang!

adam on November 25, 2008 | Reply

Hmmm, its a good theory about the sylar and elle and arthur thing, and i especially like the whole “mess with sylars head” bit. But i think that instead of going after arthur, sylars going to go completly nuts. Because in episode 13 (i think) sylar takes claire, hrg, meredith and somebody else hostage. I also think that hrg has something to do with elles death. In the preview for next weeks episode, it shows hrg with a blade to sylars neck, after shooting at them with a sniper. But in the other preview, it shows claires healing breath, which she always does when she comes back to life, so at that point perhaps sylars power comes back and he beats noah down. But he failed arthur, so maybe arthur goes to sort sylar out, so kills elle and leaves. Sylar blames noah and takes it out on him and his family. Then arthur goes back to his HQ to find peter and the hatian waiting for him, and then peter decides he cant to it. Enter nathan, who has taken consideration of what peter said to him in haiti. He may take the gun and shoot him in the head. Then peter decides that this was the wrong thing to do and the brotherly brawl will begin.

However, i want to know how nathan will get out of wherever the hatians brother has taken him, and wether peter will do something cool.

Things to consider:
1) After arthur is dead, do you think those whos powers he took will return to them?
2) what will happen to mohinder?
3) Will Maya die at mohinders hands (heres hoping =])
4) Issac mendez said he saw how sylar would die. Is there a chance that he saw further than any of us realised? Could he have known about peter coming from the future? And about kirby plaza? And hiro in the past? Maybe he even saw who will be good and who will be evil in fugatives. Or maybe he has a brother who’s a precog and carried on his work. Who knows about this one?
5) The freaking giant rock dude that issac drew. What the hell is it and when will we see it?
6) What is angelas obsetion with that friggin photograph? At least arthurs doing something productive…

do you have the paperwork to prove that isaac was the only one with rights to 9th wonder comics???

i dont think i saw that in any of the episodes….

pops on November 25, 2008 | Reply

I don’t get why sylar is cremating Elle for. Saintjust21 i like your theory on Elle’s dead and the idea of Arthur killing her in a sylar fashion is very interesting. my only question is if the top of her head was cut off ala sylar why is it shown attached in the spoiler pic. for some reason i doubt she will die, but arthur killing her would explain why sylar would attack arthur since he seems to trying so hard for his approval.

also i’m not sure which volume of 9th wonders! was Hiro goes to the future, but according to Issac that was the final issue he would write. this is the issue that depicted how to kill sylar. it could be possible that the issues we are seeing not are previous issues, but Issac unaware of his abililty at the time did not know that he was actually painting teh future. does that make sense?

I think the reason Peter told Nathan that he got his power during the eclipse in Season 1 is because Nathan never hared hisfirst flight experience with anyone and doesn’t even realize he flew imself. Also, I believe this eclipse is special, and that the Heroes are assuming they get or lose their powers on eclipses. Another thing, we don’t know Daphne’s full story so just be quiet, and wait for more info. (Most likely we’ll find out in the next few Graphic Novels and maybe next episode.) These plot holes will be filled up whether or not they were purposeful or caused by bad writing.

This show used to be good and then the writing went downhill. There needs to be some type closure on some of the issues, the show is beginning to put me to sleep. Is Sylar good or bad? When is Syresh going to die, he’s annoying. Also, at what point does anyone figure out there are people with powers out there?? Come on, the show drags on…the Asian guys, enough!! Can the guy get his mind back before my girlfriend reaches in and chokes him with his annoying high pitched screams?? Sorry, I loved the show but they have ‘jumped the shark’ in more ways than one.

All I can say, is Wow. This was the heroes that I remember, Peter and Nathan fighting, I know we want them to be the cool bros, but I always loved there fights, the good thing about their argument this time was both were like don’t fu– with me or i will fight you. Normally Nathan is more reserved, but last night he was like, bro slow your role cause I will kick your young but. anybody else peep that. Not that I like drama, but i just thought it was cool. It was like we had a chance to see a more agressive side of nathan, some of that military officer training he has. Peter still my boy, but you go Nathan.

As a whole i think the show is alright, i just hope they don’t “smallville” it.
Which means endless dialogues moaning and wining about this and that.
Just show some major asswhooping.
I also hope they will wrap up some storylines/plotdevices.
I don’t think that arthur’s power is infallable, i believe that the powers of peter, arthur and sylar are the same as for what they do only the character’s behaviour or misdemeanour determines how it works.
Peter as a whole is a nice character and so his powers are gained by simply being around it ,Arthur however is a harsh and rigid character and takes power by force(he could do it the peter way but because of his character he does it like he does it now), that’s why i don’t believe Peter’s powers are all gone, i just think that his cell’s or tissue are damaged by the way arthur took his power(s) and that it takes only time before Peter get’s his powers back.
Sylar is a bit of both(that’s why they probably called him Gabriel GRAY as in morally gray)he is capable of terrible evil but also some good that’s why i believe he can take and absorb powers.
If peter and arthur are Yin and Yang then sylar is the place where black and white meet being neither white nor black.
The fact that the 9th wonders comicbooks are still coming out, could mean a couple of things;
-plothole; which i don’t believe, because it would be to big of a mistake.Like making a starwars movie with a purple yoda :-)
-Isaac Mendez drew them all which means that everything is set in stone and people’s choices are predetermined, which i find also highly unplausible
-there are more precogs who contribute to the comicbook scattered over the world my guess is nine in total(because of the title of the comic) and i think that hiro nakamura’s dad set the joint up because he knew his son would read them(remember Kaito was able to juggle a lot of variables at the same time which is almost as good as precog maybe even better because he also knows the reason why stuff happens which will give him a better understanding of how things develope) and someone like Arthur would never read a comicbook…which is his folly.
I believe that this is the reason why the comicbooks are still being printed…

Sorry for the lenghty post :)

I Think that sylar power is to understand everything. How every thing work. What happen with ele is that he got to the point that he under stand how to take the power without cutting people up. More over I think sylar is playing everyone. I think he fooling every one. And He want to the special of them all.

ok I shall take a stab at some of the continuity issues.

As I already said, I think it is possible that another precog may have had similar visions to Issac, saw the 9th Wonder comics, and ended up talking to the publication company around the time of Issac’s death and taking over, which to me sounds entirely plausible.

I am not entirely sure of this, but I think Nathan never really told many people about him flying that first time and/or it is possible that in the moment of argument that Peter and Nathan forgot about that incident being before the last eclipse.

As for the eclipse itself, this one is probably special in some way since it is a global event and not localized and is taking away powers, which other ones seem to have not done before. Other eclipses may have acted as enhancers, making people who had powers more likely to notice them (remember there is a link to emotions and adrenaline as well to the powers) or cause those who hadn’t “manifested” to start, but was not necessarily a requirement for powers to manifest. Maybe this eclipse (and I know this part is a bit of a stretch)is only noticed by those with powers (no news or non powered characters seem to mention anything about this eclipse and it’s oddity) and thus may not be a true eclipse and might be why it is taking away powers instead of enhancing them like normal.

Think Fast, you got it right. People, this is Heroes! Not some random stupid show that can’t fill plot holes. There WILL be reasons for plot holes and they will be explained but you just have to wait.

i agree. they definitely will be able to fill in all of the plot holes. It’s what they’ve done since the first season, and always in an incredible, Eureka!-moment kind of way.

However, the one that they can’t fill in due to scientific fact is that no total eclipse is a global event… can’t happen.

That said, I can live with this mistake because this show is so f’ing amazing!

Well- I agree with everyone about plot holes, but I think sometimes, unfortunately, even good shows make mistakes and I think if you are truly a fan, you try to just ignore the holes and go with the story. Next week looks exciting. Can’t wait to see what happens with Elle and Sylar.

Judging from the promo pics, Claire won’t be in the hospital for long. In the pics, she is clearly headed into battle with HRG presumably with Sylar and Elle or something along those lines. The preview shows her in the hospital. So she doesn’t die(already knew that). Like someone said, she probably died(literally) for a while and then when the eclipse goes away, she will be fine. Why does Elle have Claire’s mom hostage when she has no powers or she might have them then( again judging from the pics). If you have no idea what I am saying, I suggest looking at the pics and then trying to help me answer or ponder these things.
