I think people go out of their way to trash this show because it doesn't just give us a weekly special effects extravaganza. Notice that almost all of the complaints have to do with characterization and pacing- why? Because I think about half the audience of Heroes were people attracted only to one part of what Comic-books were about (and that's the super powers part). These are people who need good and evil clearly defined for them and a simple resolution where one side of the other triumphs in some obvious way and then a bunch of bang for the buck because it “looks cool when Peter and Sylar are throwing energy bolts at each other, and stuff”~

And also…I can't believe people are troubling themselves over whether Gretchen is “hot” enough for Claire? How dull. The problem is definitely not this show, it's the mass of dumb, superficial people watching it and commenting on it.
