Heroes Episode Review: Season 2 Episode 7 (2.07) Out of Time
By Sam | November 5, 2007 (9:10 pm) | More: Heroes Episode Reviews, Heroes Season 2 Spoilers/News
When we last left our heroes, Sylar and the Wonder Twins have made their way to American at last; Hiro’s betrayal of Kensei was returned in kind; HRG and Mohinder continues to go in different directions when it comes to The Company, even as Mohinder gets a new partner in the newly minted Niki. Meanwhile, Matt and Nathan have discovered why Molly calls Maury, aka Parkman Sr., “The Nightmare Man”. And finally, after leaving Ireland for Canada, Peter and Caitlin have found themselves somewhere unexpected — one year in the future, where a vision of doom awaits them.
We catch up with our heroes:

In Feudal Japan, things are heating up. After delivering that love-tap to the back of Hiro’s head in the previous episode, Kensei reveals his evil master plan: help White Beard take over Japan! Muahahahahaha! Et cetera, et cetera. Fortunately it’s hard to imprison someone who can freeze time. Will Hiro step up to the plate and do what needs to be done? Will he finally fulfill his destiny as a hero? Can he muster up the courage to stop his childhood hero? Is Japanese sake delicious? How many questions can I ask in a row? One word: KA-BOOM!

Back in the present, the heroes are converging: Matt and Nathan arrives at The Company to “protect” Bob from Maury. Unfortunately for Bob, Matt is, well, he’s Matt. And hey, is that D.L.? I thought D.L. was dead. I am so confused. Oh, wait, now I get it. Maury, you slick dog. That’s no way to treat Niki/Jessica, who, as we all know, is a punching machine. She’s also not afraid of needles, it appears.

Meanwhile, in Heroes 90210, the creepy West has become even creepier by inviting himself to breakfast at the Bennet household. (When I do it, they call it stalking; when West does it, it’s cute. Go figure.) And what’s a dose of inane 90210 plotting if it doesn’t involve scenes of Claire and West making out on the couch while listening to sweet tunes? Oh by the way, West, have you met Claire’s dad? He has the oddest glasses, not to mention a digital camera that looks just line mine. Coincidence? I think not!

Trapped one year in the future, Peter and Caitlin are rescued by men in hazmat suits. Explanations abound: The “Shanti Virus” has run amok in the future, killing 93% of the population, and forcing the rest to live in quarantine. Yes, you heard it right. The Shanti Virus. As in Mohinder’s little sister Shanti Suresh, who died of the virus years ago, and who Mohinder could have cured with his own blood, as he did young Molly Walker. The virus, incidentally, can also strip heroes of their powers, though it tends to have some nasty side effects — like, you know, death. Mama Petrelli, who is proving very resourceful if not unkillable, shows up on year from now to lend a hand, as well as reveal important information about Nathan’s fate to Peter.
MIA for this episode: Sylar and the Wonder Twins, and Monica and the New Orleans brood.

And now we come to the second season’s biggest question: Who is Adam Monroe?
According to Bob, Adam Monroe was one of the original founders of the old generation, if not the founder. But Adam went a little batty, and started talking about holocausts and plagues, forcing the others to put him away. Unfortunately for the old guard, Adam has escaped, and now he wants revenge. Maury is his instrument of death, and our unshaven nightmare man is more than willing to get his hands bloody.
Adam was also Linderman’s master. Which would make Adam very old. He also knows how to hold a grudge. If you know what I mean, and I think you do. Hint hint, wink wink, and all that.
Oh come on, do you REALLY need me to spell it out for you?
Adam Monroe is Takezo Kensei.

Notables:
Now all Mohinder needs is the smoking gun…

D.L. lives! (Well, sort of…)

The Future is Deadly…

Heeeeeere’s Nicky…

Saying goodbye is hard to do…

Sub on 5 November 2007:
Already those spoilers are starting to be disproved.
I believe the majority of them are true, but some are just b/s.
Adam / Kensei was said to be old. He looks like he never aged.
Benjamin on 5 November 2007:
tonights episode was freakin AMAZING….need I say more? didnt think so..soo excited for next week
Stacey on 5 November 2007:
Sub, Kensei can’t die. We’ve seen his powers at work. His power is almost like Claire’s except maybe better. That’s why he looks like he hasn’t aged. If Adam catches the virus however…that’s probably the only way to kill him.
But yeah this episode was awesome! I was amazed at every twist and turn and it was great!
Keith on 6 November 2007:
No what I was referring to was the post of major spoilers.
It stated that Adam was very old, but he hasn’t aged at all. Also I wouldn’t be surprized if Claire and Adam’s ability are the same.
Dave on 6 November 2007:
He is very old. Just because he’s old doesn’t mean he has to look all grey haired. Kinda like Vulcans on Star Trek. Except they live 300ish years (not sure exactly). A 100 year-old vulcan is like a 30 year old Human… but that whole analogy isn’t perfect so i’ll abandon it now. Adam/T.K. will look like that in 500 years if he doesn’t die before then. Parkman Jr.’s power is in it’s less advanced state; Parkman Sr.’s power is in it’s more advanced state. Same as Claire and Adam. Only explanation for Adam being so advanced so quickly after noticing his power is that he had the power for a long time but for it to become more advanced didn’t require his mind/knowledge - unlike Matt’s in which his mind is kind of a part of his power so i guess it needs “training” or it can be trained if desired.
My Episode Rating: 9/10 (<– perhaps that could be another website feature. Members rating episodes. And maybe a fan anticipation meter based on the previews for the following week)
Global TV Preview for next episode Rating: 0/10 (Looked like all old material from the episode we just watched)

Save the Stripper, Save the World!
Save Niki Please!!!!!!!!!!
Comrade on 6 November 2007:
They can’t kill Niki. She’s one of the major superhero archetypes.
This episode was so good because we start to see the pieces fall into place. Mohinder’s nose gets broken & he has a bandage (like in his painting), he gets his company gun, Peter sees the world ending because of the Shanti virus & we learn it’s mutated by the end of the episode. Claire & her father become estranged.
I can’t believe Peter would be involved with someone as (seemingly) rotten as Adam/Kensei??
I’d like to see how Maya & her brother will fit into all of this. I wonder if his ability to cure her “virus” means he could possibly cure others? Probably a stretch.
Sub on 6 November 2007:
Trust me at the end of the season, episode 23 or 13 (depending on this dumb strike), Niki will live.
SuperSmart on 6 November 2007:
I m must be the biggest believer that T.K. is the Peterelli father my views are still real Peter doesn’t remember his dad so it’s still possible.
And the guy is pure evil now and last how did Hiro’s Dad not know Adam was the person all the stories about or did he.
This is def my last point maybe the 12 know the future because Peter has helped them in some way.
frank on 6 November 2007:
i still think that Mohinder is the one that shoots Noah, while trying to get Claire. That’s just what i think may happens what do you think?
nosssweat on 6 November 2007:
um… did everyone forget that peter left caitlin in the future??? PWNED!
Benjamin on 6 November 2007:
nosssweat…hahah yeahh i remembered..and maaan whas i happy he left her there..
Miki on 6 November 2007:
AHAHAAHAHAHAHA!! @ “Save the stripper save the world”
LordFireFly on 6 November 2007:
nosssweat, I thought I was the only one who noticed that Caitlin was left in the future.LOL!
I would be upset if I were her. Can someone go get that girl?!?
dodo on 7 November 2007:
anyone care to comment on the patrelli mom power? it seemed like she put memories into peter, rather than his random flashback. most all of the old gen has powers, and they seemed to only hook up with each other to create superkids or autosomal dominant new gen heroes. it makes you think of all the parents and what powers they have. even though bob is elle’s dad with the midas touch, what about her mom? and hiros dad? was it the power to teach really fast and invest really well?
what is the genetic formula for a hero?
New mutation?
Autosomal Dominant?
it for sure has 100% penetrance.
(see wikipedia, search mendelian genetics)
last thought: what about micah’s aunt/grandma?
ps. adam is most likely not peter’s dad, if anything he was the one who killed him.
Goode on 7 November 2007:
Bob is not Elle’s father. He is her grandfather and Merideth is his daughter. Which makes Elle and Clair half-sisters. It will be revealed in the next episode. BTW Adam escaped when the Irish gang found peter.
Goode on 7 November 2007:
Oops, I forgot to add that the person mohiender shoots is not HRG. It is actually bob. Mohiender will learn that Adam and Peter are trying to destroy the virus and take thier side in doing so.
Goode on 7 November 2007:
OMG I keep forgeting to post stuff. Do any of you know that Matt had a sister? LOL I think I am the only one to notice this. The reason I say had is because Sylar killed her this season. I believe her name is Caidence.
She had pretty much the same power as both Matt and his father, control over the mind.
Why do I think she is Matt’s sister? Remember when Sylar killed her? She was face down and by the looks of it, pretty chubby just like the parkmans
che on 7 November 2007:
hey , someone told me that season 2 will ended up in episode 11. is that right ?
Kold on 8 November 2007:
One of Isaac’s paintings with the girl banging on the door- was that Niki? Coz she did something of that sort when she broke into Bob’s office in the last ep.
As for Sylar and the Wonder Twins..- Sylar, you’d better watch or else the ghast-eyed lady might end up choking you to death!
Cant wait to see Ep8- 4 Months Ago
Also HRG is ultimately killed by M.Suresh? Atleast thats what I can figure out from the painting and Bob’s wise words to Mohinder.
zafjam on 8 November 2007:
OMG this has to be the best episode of the seasons so far!!!
what do you think will happen when hiro meets adam monroe aka Takezo Kensei?, lol probably catch up on old times.
and i reckon mohinder kills bob and west kills bennitt, and if not some crazy shizzle is gonna go down at the least! it cant be that straight forward
Anu on 10 November 2007:
Amazing episode!!
The season is totally back on track..
Exciting!
but I’m really confused about which camp is good or evil now..
Peter shall forever be loved but who is actually good.. the Company aka Bob, Bennet or Adam?
alex on 10 November 2007:
i have read somewhere that heroes is ending in december… becoz of low rating…is this true… i love this show… i dont want it to end.. episode 7 was great… this season is bak on track… getting interesting.. i hope heroes continues…
st_musique on 12 November 2007:
I imagine, with the Hollywood screenwriters strike, that Heroes will stop soon, at least ’til it’s resolved. Which is estimated to be about 6 months, I think I heard.
I think they only film three or so episodes in advance.
