Heroes Episode Review: Season 2 Episode 6 (2.06) The Line
By Sam | October 29, 2007 (9:09 pm) | More: Heroes Episode Reviews, Heroes Season 2 Spoilers/News
Knock knock, it’s Mohinder Suresh, and I’d like to sell you a trip to the Company. What is The Company? I’m glad you asked. The Company is a untrustworthy, and some would say evil, private concern bent on doing something nefarious to people with powers. You know, people like you. Interested? The answer is Yes, apparently, as in no time Monica is performing her “muscle memory” trick for Mohinder in The Company’s facility. Enter Bob, who wants to see if his version of The Cure can stop Monica’s powers, and he wants Mohinder to do the deed. See, this is what working for an evil corporation gets you, Mohinder. HRG could have told you that.

Speaking of which, HRG and the Haitian are in Russia, where HRG has an unscheduled appointment with an old “friend”. You know, the last time I said Hi to one of my friends by gun whipping him, we didn’t speak for ages. It’s a good thing HRG’s old buddy is more understanding. But then again, handcuffs and a gun will loosen some tongues. And oh yeah, a superpowered fellow who can steal your precious memories at will might have had something to do with it. Man, HRG really wants those paintings! (Must be because he saw his own death in one of them…)

Back on Heroes 90210, Claire tries out for the cheerleading squad, but is rebuffed by Evil Cheerleader Debbie because, well, she’s Evil and whatnot. Damn you evil cheerleaders! It’s a good thing West is around to crack jokes. Oh, West, he’s such a wise guy. But he does prove helpful and together the lovebirds hatch a devious plan to knock snotty Debbie down a peg or two. Those wacky kids and their wacky ideas. What will they think of next? Watch out, Debbie, up in the sky — it’s not a bird, it’s not a plane, it’s … a flying mugger?

Back to more interesting things. Sylar and the Wonder Twins continue on their way to America, where Sylar puts the moves on Maya while Alejandro is enjoying some siesta in the backseat of their stolen ride. Or did he? Maybe Sylar was just going for her brain. He’s got a thing for brains, that Sylar. Alas, their entry into the States is blocked by a wall of gun-toting Texas rednecks who attacks their car like pissed off gorillas in the Congo, because, you know, all Texans are gun-toting rednecks that attack shiny cars like primates. It’s just how we like to roll down here. (Oh, Hollywood, your writers are so insightful.)

Meanwhile, in Love in the Time of Samurai news, Hiro’s messages in a bottle continues to regal Ando on the story of how he, Yaeko, and Kensei attacked the warlord White Beard and his army of thousands in Feudal Japan. First they have to rescue Yaeko’s father, which as it turns out wasn’t all that hard, although Hiro’s continued infatuation for Yaeko proves more difficult to shake, something that our time-tripping hero is beginning to realize, especially when he literally snatches her out of Kensei’s arms. Oh, Hiro, I don’t think you should have done that, bub, I just don’t think you should have done that, especially to a guy who can’t be killed, and who will probably live a long, long time…
MIA for this episode: Matt Parkman and Nathan Petrelli. Niki Sanders gets a brief cameo, while Peter Petrelli and Caitlin bookends the episode, the latter appearance by the kissing duo setting the stage for the second season’s major story arc. Hint: New York City is at it again.
Notables:
Mean cheerleaders rule (especially when they’re sloshed)…

Mohinder vs. Bob: WHO YA GOT???

Are we looking at why Kensei goes bad…again?

Niki + Jessica = Jessiki?

Things to come…

One year in the future…

The future always sucks in Heroes…

Josh on 29 October 2007:
Maybe it’s just me… but this episode was weak. Actually, never mind - this was one of the better episodes in a really weak season thus far. I hope things improve, but the preview for next week didn’t look all that spectacular, either.
Benjamin on 29 October 2007:
haha..your so funny Josh..err not really
Nikki on 30 October 2007:
I truly do not understand…in fact, I hadn’t heard anything about sophomore slump…because this season of Heroes is definitely living up to my expectations. Surpassing, even. I audibly gasp in nearly every episode. I can understand peoples restlessness with Heroes 90210, but that aside, I’ve been incredibly impressed with the season thus far. Am I the only one of this opinion?
Rauf on 30 October 2007:
I agree with u Nikki, this season has really been wonderful, even better than season 1, i dare say.As we indulge into every episode, more of our questions are answered while new ones emerge.. Thats the reason why heroes never fails to stimulate the excitement in me
someone on 30 October 2007:
Episode was good it seems that the slump of heroes is the episodes are only once week people get disapointed when they can’t watch it as a large movie T.T.
Though I’ll admit there is a pretty boring part of the plotline and its… claires high school troubles tada and not enough of what peter is doing they only give him like 5 minutes of an episode (he needs to be kicking some butt). I think thats what this episode was leading to.
Peter stalker that left a note is either him/his brother/or a newer character (though it’d be more interesting if it was the guy who was able to see peter while he was invisible)?
Hiro’s plot line is kind of odd. So far from the small scrolls he has done basically everything from the story. Kissing the lady only fits more into the plotline, because didn’t it say in the childhood storys that the ‘heart’ is given to the dragon. In ancient times that meant what you loved so it could easily be he ends up accepting Hiro liking her. Also hiro hasn’t returned for over 6 months so you can assume one of the four-five.
1-2) He died.(physically killed or the virus.)
3) Decided to say bye bye Ando for the girl.
4) Lost control of his powers.
5) Fears the spacetime continuum.
Sylar is flat out evil say what he plans to do out loud. Honestly the tone it seemed he was talking im pretty sure the girl could of heard him though its a show so…
keenan on 30 October 2007:
omg season 2 is crap it just doesnt live up to season 1’s greatness and anyone who disagrees is not a heores fan. this is mainly coz peter petrelli’s story (and hiros) were the best in the season and now they are absaloutely crap!!
Rosylin on 30 October 2007:
WHO
IS
ADAM????
am i the only one asking???
311 on 30 October 2007:
My guess on why the city is evacuated: the virus has somehow crossed over into the general population. One of the 8 paintings shows a vial in it.
Sylar is such an evil guy, I was hoping maybe he would make a good choice for once but no dice. I hope Alejandro understood him somehow..(this is coming from a guy who wanted Maya and her brother off the show). If they keep giving Sylar new powers he will be the ultimate villian at this rate.
The episodes in this season get better with each one, maybe we should just be patient.
OkayLetsGo on 30 October 2007:
this episode was great. i think this season is going along really well…i don’t really mind claire’s 90210 plot line but i feel like Hiro’s story is kind of dragging on. Everyone else is (for the most part) connnected in a 6 degrees of seperation kind of way but he is lost. I hope he doesn’t get written off!
Gambit on 30 October 2007:
I agree with all of you who have said that this season is great so far. Sure its a little slow in terms of finding out what the true arc is, and how every thing is going to play out, but like with every good comic book arc, this season is just building us up for something great
littlebit on 30 October 2007:
Is it possible that perhaps Adam is one of the 12? There are several pointers to that:
1. Bob seems to be very familiar with him - enough so to pair up Niki/Jessica with Mohinder (and, by the way, I think that was Jessica - not Niki in this episode)
2. There are still several unidentified people from the photo - most of which are men
3. He knows Peter - which means he likely knows Mama Petrelli
I’ll admit, I was disappointed earlier in the season with the way things were moving. But the recent twists in the storyline have amped things up and really made it worth watching again. There are storylines I could do without (Claire, Monica, Micah) but they do lend a bit of “light-heartedness” to a very dramatic show. I’d much rather keep the light-heartedness up to Matt & Nathan who not only have a great chemistry together, have fantastic comic-timing.
Don’t forget - 3 character’s are going to die and just about everyone is up for grabs - except Claire, Peter and Hiro - Tim Kring wouldn’t dare kill off his “stars” - those are the actors (not the characters, the ACTORS) that bring in the ratings.
Maxx Hitpoints on 30 October 2007:
My thoughts? Mr. Adam Monroe is the real name of Kensei, who obviously is not really Asian/japanese, so he would not have a name like Kensei. Watch for him to be one evil man, who likely is involved in the deaths of the 12…
TJ on 30 October 2007:
You guys are all missing the fact that Kaito was surprised by who it was that was about to kill him. So forget The Nightmare Man……and can we stop thinking that Kensei is in the present time? If he winds up there, fine, I’ll eat my next few words- KENSEI IS NOT IN THE PRESENT TIME!!! If he was, wouldn’t they had shown it? And where is Hiro!?! Maybe Hiro will bring Kensei with him to the present. I’ll bite on that….
John on 30 October 2007:
Maxx you have something, I feel the whole purpose of Hiro in ancient Japen is all about that symbol. Notice how its on all the characters. I think The cop’s dad was just protecting himself doesn’t seem fit for a evil super badguy. The end of the show I’m thinking that Maya(girl with the black eyes) Sylar gets her powers and unleashes on New York the reason the city is abandon
Jack F. on 30 October 2007:
Is it just me or do the cheerleaders at that school look old enough to be the mothers of the cheerleaders that should be there?
kristina on 30 October 2007:
QUESTION:
kristina on 30 October 2007:
Who is Adam? Maybe he is Kinsee/Kane? Adam, the first man? Adam now the first man with the super abilities?
rosie on 30 October 2007:
Did anyone notice that HRG and the Hatian were in Odessa, Ukraine (a cute little play off of Odessa, Texas)?
bobo on 30 October 2007:
Kensei not in the present?…hmm.
Anyone else notice in the picture where they show the 12 people, that one of them mysteriously has his head turned off to the side obscuring his face. Papa Petrelli. Tall white guy with similar-ish hair to Kensei. maybe?
alb on 30 October 2007:
Did anyone else notice the pictue of St. Joan (Monica)in the background of new york at the very end of the episode? The same picture that was on the issue of the 9th wonders in episode 5..
alb on 30 October 2007:
In the official preview of episode 8 david anders is to star and a mysterious yet familiar face is introduced??? Kensei???
Shan on 30 October 2007:
Um… Can someone tell me who is in the photo in the future? Is that Sylar or Peter with someone else? And who’s the someone else?
vacelts on 31 October 2007:
My guess in that Adam is another one of the Original 12. Which side he’s on, I’m still not sure.
Goode on 1 November 2007:
Here is my guess. Adam Monroe is the real name of kensie. He obviously knows peter right? Look for Adam/kensie and peter to team up in future episodes. Hiro and kensie r now enemy’s so when Hiro comes back to the present look for a Peter vs. Hiro showdown.
Why is Bob so obsessed with experimenting with the virus and tryin to take away people’s powers? Also way does he have adam’s file on his desk? Maybe he knows that the only way to kill Adam/Kensie is to first strip him of his powers.
FWI ppl…..MAYA IS EVIL!!!! Possibly more evil then Sylar.
Bob the Alchemist on 1 November 2007:
HRG is the man!!!
Did you see him backhand pistol whip his mentor! damn! and speaking russian always sounds cool and menacing. Man if they kill him off the show will lose a great deal of balls. My hope is they only wound him in that painting and the character takes on an eyepatch.
About Kensei, who really even cares about him? the whole white samurai thing made me sick to begin with. Weather or not he is in the present kind of seems like a non-issue to me. there are so many other more relevant sub plots to focus on.
More HRG!
Leon on 6 November 2007:
well if u not understanding the fact that adam is in the future like me then think back i thought a little bit about wat has happened
hiro kissed that japanese girl ye and betrayed tekezo kensai (Adam) and he said that he will have revenge on him
*******I THINK ADAM KILLED HIRO’S DAD*****
cause the person who went over the edge just got up n regenerated
that is my theory
the JACK on 6 November 2007:
well, its official,
Adam is kensi…
guess most of you were wrong he he he
riztine on 8 November 2007:
it’s hard figuring things out…but here’s my share of the whole theory thing…
i think that when Hiro went back to the future kensei was with him…hiro went to the right time but kensei didn’t say, 10 years or so..figuring things out in the current sitch he swores to get even with Hiro…and thus join (or might have been formed) “the” company.. then..on many random circumstances later, he went loco (as Bob pointed out) and the group finally decided to lock him out for good..adding up to his “get even” list are those who restricted him of his plans…and so…when he recently escaped wherever he was locked out…he continues his vengeance starting with the murder of those in the company…
AND so on..so forth…
Crazy huh??
just a theory… hope the show’s ratings improves..i mean as a Heroes fan…i think it’s right to say that the majority juz wanted to keep up with the whole suspense plot complimented with dual action and perspective rather than continuous digression…and that’s what made people so impatient…but a true heroes fan see what lies beneath the whole issue rather than what makes it TICk…
More power(s!!)!!! i’ll be ever patient with the storyline though i really hate the cheesy love condiments (what’s up with that??) and the side dishes…i hope tim kring gets a grip on the real point of the season which is the Shanti virus…
Eyal on 8 November 2007:
Adam didn’t “go to the future”, he is 400 years old. guess that regenerative power really comes in handy, when fighting old age.
He started the nakamoro compony, knowing that Hiro will one day be born.
when he learned that Hiro vainished, he figured that THAT was when he went to the past, and then he started executing his “get even” plan.
shaheem on 10 November 2007:
how many episodes are there in season 2
