Heroes Episode Review: Season 2 Episode 10 (2.10) Truth and Consequences
By Sam | November 26, 2007 (11:00 am) | More: Heroes Episode Reviews, Heroes Season 2 Spoilers/News
Previously on Heroes: Hiro has discovered the face of his father’s killer, and it’s none other than Takezo Kensei, the childhood hero who Hiro helped turn into a warrior, only to betray and be betrayed by. In California, the Bennet clan is now one short, with HRG, aka Noah Bennet, believed killed while trying to save Claire from the Company. As we continue in “Truth and Consequences”, Peter and Adam Monroe, the present alias of the immortal Takezo Kensei, prepares to “save the world” from the Shanti virus, but what will their salvation cost us?

The penultimate episode of Heroes Season 2 picks up with Peter, still in the company of Adam Monroe, who relates the story of Victoria Pratt. Monroe claims that Pratt is the original founder of the Shanti virus, and it is through her that they will find a way to save the world. Or so he says. As we know by now, Monroe is not to be trusted. Fortunately for him, Peter is the gullible sort, and is determined to stop the Shanti virus from being unleashed in order to save poor Caitlin, who is still trapped somewhere in the future. Peter’s visit to Victoria Pratt’s house sours quickly, which invariably happens when shotguns come into the equation.

Back in California, Bob Bishop comes baring gifts for the Bennets — an urn containing the remains of HRG. Well, not really. As we already know, HRG is very much alive and in Company hands. As what remains of the Bennet clan prepares to flee once more, Claire is suffering from a serious bout of guilt, but West is there to offer a shoulder to cry on. But Claire shouldn’t be too sad, because the combination of her blood, mixed with Mohinder’s, has resulted in an antidote to the virus that is killing superheroes — and one Niki Sanders.

In New Orleans, said Niki Sanders returns to Micah with bad news. But the big question is: will the Monica storyline, which has been leeching precious Season 2 minutes for the longest time now, finally prove itself useful? Perhaps a missing bag full of comic books and D.L.’s fireman medal will be the impetus. Because, you know, watching Monica get in touch with her superhero self and rescue some stolen comic books and a piece of medal is, like, really important and stuff. Hey, nevermind saving the world from a virus that’ll kill 93% of the population. There are comic books that needs a’-rescuin’! Sigh. Most pointless Heroes storyline … EVER.

But back to something slightly more interesting. Stuck in Virginia, and nearly at their New York destination, Sylar and the Wonder Twins are making themselves comfortable. Or, to be exact, Sylar and Maya are getting comfortable, much to Alejandro’s chagrin. Big Brother has discovered some of Sylar’s dark secrets thanks to the World Wide Web, but will it be too late to convince Maya of Sylar’s bad ways? Unfortunately for Alejandro, a woman’s heart is as deep and mysterious as the ocean — wait, what was I saying? Oh right, Maya finally makes a choice between Sylar and Alejandro, and it’s gonna really hurt for one of them.

In Japan, Hiro is determined to locate the trail left behind by Adam Monroe as he progressed through 400 years of history. He finds his answers in the past, Hiro learns that 30 years ago, Monroe tried to unleash a mutated strain of the Shanti virus on the population, but was stopped by Kaito and the Company. Off to Primatech Paper in Odessa, Texas, where the virus is currently being kept for safekeeping. There, Hiro has a reunion with an old friend, but as my father always reminds me, no reunion is a happy one when swords are involved. They’re very sharp, you know.
“Truth and Consequences” is a set-up episode, existing purely to ratchet up the stakes and provide a strong lead into next week’s shortened Season 2 finale, “Powerless”. As just that, it’s a moderate success.
MIA for this episode: Matt Parkman and Nathan Petrelli. Molly has a cameo. A very unpleasant one, at that.
Notables:
Oh, young and really weird love…

Young Kaito and forever young Adam Monroe…

The mysterious Victoria Pratt. We hardly knew ye…

Monica finally makes herself useful…

Or maybe not…

Claire versus Elle — WHO YA GOT???

Hiro versus Peter — WHO YA GOT???

Spikey on 26 November 2007:
i was so bored in this episode x.x
Chance on 26 November 2007:
LOL !! That a-rescuin part with Monica, realllllllllll funny !! I dont see the connection of that arc with anything else that’s going on with the rest of the show? What is the point of it really ?
Zero on 26 November 2007:
I think Sylar should kill Adam Monroe, get his power, then become indestructible like Peter… Hehe.
Maybe thats the reason why the Company wanted to keep him alive in the first place, I keep wondering who was talking to Candice at that time on that cell phone. They never said who
DNaraku on 27 November 2007:
Yay, more Sylar!
serena92 on 27 November 2007:
adam is can’t die… how sylar kill him..?
Duff on 27 November 2007:
all Sylar has to do is cut off the top of his head quickly and get the brain before it heals. he did it to Claire in season 1 -5 Years Gone- Last nights preview for next week was intense. 2 heroes will fall. I cant wait to see who it is I personally think it will be West, and either Monica, Maya, or Nathan
Somebody on 27 November 2007:
็ำHe can eat brain, and absorbs power.
Rosy on 27 November 2007:
Okay my episode review:
1. VIctoria so shouldhave blown Adam’s head straight off.
2. Mohinder no longer needs to be kicked
3. Who’s good? I think everything’s grey.
4. Maya is a word i cannot say on here but add dip to the front.
5. Claire made a good stand, but with a REALLY bad plan.
6. West is something more than to makeout with…. but that’s still good too.
7. Peter is G-U-L-L-I-B-L-E. And Adam has earned the same name as Maya.
8. Hiro saying “Peter Petrelli” made my day.
9. I woke up my parents yelling “NO” at the end of the episode.
10. Where is Matt Parkman? Not watching his child?
11. Molly get you kung fu ready. And it is child abuse to submit to messed up Mylar PDA.
12. OH! Alejandro had the odds in the Sylar/Alejandro battle. It’s not even feasible he lost. COME ON, Sylar was a pampered New Yorker, and you’re a tough Mexican. WHY THE HECK DID YOU POSSIBLY LOSE????
Any others?
Goode on 27 November 2007:
“A Villian will Rise”
HEY! Did NEone else realize that Mohinder had to shots of the antidote?
Why cant Sylar use his powers? Oh hey, he has the Shanti Virus that the company gave him. Once cured of his illness, the Sylar we all love to hate will begin killing again starting with Maya.
“Two Heroes Will Fall”
By this time, we all know that Niki will die trying to save Monica(Dont care, story line means nothing).
Who else is going to fall?
My money is on Elle and here is why.
As we saw in last episode, Elle let her daddy down and now will be trying to get back on his good graces. What better way to do that than go after and kill Sylar. Unfortunatly she doesn’t get to him in time to stop him from killing Maya. Elle will try her best, but zapping someone with a power like Maya’s is only going to result in you meeting a horrible fate.
BTW had Peter never let Adam out, he never would have seen that future. That future happened like that because of him, but I’m sure you already know that.
Last nights Episode rocked
BonnieB on 27 November 2007:
Not fairrrrrrr, i cant wait till next week, i need to know what happens nooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Any spoilers?????!!!!
I think West is the secret helper, i mean noooo boyfriend can be that perfect….. right???!!!!
Dexconocida on 27 November 2007:
Somethings looked ok to me on this episode, like the Hiro plot I also liked Micah and Monica night out playing Heroes (at least they have a clear head unlike I don’t know everyone else in the show)I just have a few technical questions:
Did Sylar or the twins have any money with them? they did find a motel of some kind to be in and Mylar even had a picnic.
Was there even a logic reason to waste time by killing Alejandro?
How can Peter be so stupid? I am really hoping he gets an ability that includes using the brain, to think you know
What’s up with the online news paper that Alejandro found? It looked sooo fake like someone cut the images and glued them to some random newspaper.
Maya has become like the personification of a bad Mexican Soap Opera, and she is not even Mexican. The dialog into the kissing scene was forced, the writers used a terrible excuse to get them to make out(got to admit the actors looked hot at it)
Mohinder carrying two shots? yes I noticed that too I am sure he is not planning to save Molly by giving Sylar his abilities back, then again he can be that bright sometimes.
Now I have a question for someone to help me with,is Mohinder living in a place that Sylar already knows or is him that easy to track?
Amy on 27 November 2007:
mohinder is living in the same apartment, the one were sylar previously met his father and then met mohinder numerous amounts of times then was tortured by sylar there and wacked him up against some wall for a while…how can you not have realised that ?
Casey on 27 November 2007:
Does Hiro have a third power that we don’t know about? The ability to paralyze people by running and yelling at them with a sword.
He paralyzed Sylar in the Season One Finale [that was the kill point for me, Sylar had just stopped bullets in mid air, but he couldn't stop Hiro from running at him with a sword? Lame]. And apparently he has paralyzed Peter in the same way.
Even if Peter was hesitating because he knows Hiro, there are ways to knock someone out without killing them. Especially with Peter’s wide array of powers at the moment.
Whitney on 27 November 2007:
duude!!! sylar hooking up with maya ow-ow!!!!! but alejandro…..something called SELF-DEFENSE, buddy….ever heard of it?
Goode on 27 November 2007:
Who do you think the first person Mohinder is going to call after that creepy phone call with Sylar. If you guessed Bob then you are most likly right. Mohinder will want an explenation as to why slyar is still alive and maybe then will we learn what happened to Sylar after that infamous night at kirbby plaza
Goode on 27 November 2007:
Why do I always forget to post stuff.
2 Paintings have yet to come to life!!!
The one with the blone chick in a burning building
The white hand holding the vile(most likly Adam holding the virus)
Ectar on 27 November 2007:
we allready know what happened to sylar, he was saved by candice who can alter peoples perceptions of reality
and sylar killed candice and now has the same power we saw him use in five years gone
the storyline is still the same apart from the bomb
Benjamin on 27 November 2007:
i really hate this wordpress commenting thing..
Sam on 27 November 2007:
Why?
Benjamin on 27 November 2007:
because I wrote this huge long post, then submitted it and it doesn’t show up..then I try to repost it and it says I’ve posted that message already….even though it didnt actually post..
Sam on 27 November 2007:
Most likely you were trying to do it during a high traffic period. The site tends to get swamped at certain times of the day on Mondays and Tuesdays and the server has trouble dealing with the overload.
Try the forum. You can make a thread/post as big as you want and people will knock it around with you.
Jordan on 27 November 2007:
So, i’m confused about how many more heroes episodes are finished, but i can tell u now, unless there is an amazing finish, there should b more. also, if hiro or peter dies, i will b the angriest person ever.
Kris on 28 November 2007:
Does anyone know, the writers strike is supposed t end very soon, will this be in time to get new Heroes eps after the holiday break? I hope so, I dont want to have to wait until September for more Heroes…
Gioia on 28 November 2007:
Maya and Alejandro are from Guatemala. I hate them both. I wish I could kill Mylar myself, they are sooooo annoying!!
To everyone who says that DL´s death was pointless and that he should have died at Kirbby Plaza: the way he died is what convinced Nikki to go to The Company.
I still want to know what´s Angela Petrelli´s power
a on 28 November 2007:

I have a bad feeling about “2 heroes will fall”.
Heroes implying that it will be good guys, I’m worried Peter might lose his head.
avoidz on 1 December 2007:
Note to writers (when they get back from the strike…): Unless Monica Dawson’s story fits in with the arc or is going somewhere interesting besides rescuing comic books, dump her character and give West Rosen more screen time.
Also, kill off Kristen Bell’s “Elle” character; her little girl voice and squinty features annoy the heck outta me
Otherwise, an okay episode. Even an average Heroes is entertaining
Nikki on 1 December 2007:
Honestly, I’m considering not coming on to read comments any more…so many people seem to watch Heroes for the sole purpose of finding something wrong with it! I watch Heroes because it’s an amazing, original show, that always keeps me guessing and waiting for Monday to come. The episodes some people are calling “lame” and “boring” are still better than most shows on television! If you don’t like Heroes anymore, don’t watch it. *steps off soapbox*
Sorry guys, don’t mean to be a complete downer…I loved the episode, and I’m with you guys - I will be severely disappointed if Peter or Hiro dies!! And I really, really, REALLY want to know what BOTH Petrelli parents could do!! And where was Matt? You don’t think “I convinced the babysitter to take the night off” means something more important than we’re giving it credit for, do you? Eeek.
Tarot on 2 December 2007:
Claude needs to return and smack some sense into Peter. (And not just because I miss him either). I’d love to see an Adam vs Claude fight. Adam may be able to heal but he can’t see Claude if he goes invisible. After he “pwns” Adam I can see Claude turning to Peter and saying, “Blimey! I can’t leave you alone can I? You save us from the Haitian and my ex-working partner but then you link up with the first bloke who says he’s gonna help you. Were you not listening when I said ‘everyone is like the rest?’ C’mon, Poodle, back to the roof with you.”
and Peter “But I can control my powers.”
Claude replies, “But you still don’t get it, pup.” And another knockout punch by Claude.
Hopefully Sylar’s arrival will serve as a wakeup call to Mohinder. If the Company is as good as Mohinder thinks it is, why did they save Sylar and why didn’t they keep him and Molly safe?
All this is a long shot but a gal can dream, right?
Nikki on 2 December 2007:
Tarot - I love your Claude idea!
Tarot on 3 December 2007:
Thanks Nikki

I really dont want hiro or peter to die
and why didnt molly wake up lol

Hiro’s 3rd ability is stunning an opponent whil he’s running with his sword crying his battle cry out!
