Emerson Sues “Heroes” for Claire Garbage Disposal Scene

In what can only be called one of the more idiotic bit of news regarding “Heroes”, appliance maker Emerson has sued the producers of “Heroes” and NBC for a scene in the show’s pilot where Claire sticks her hand in Emerson’s In-Sink-Erator garbage disposal in yet another attempt to test her near-invulnerability. What does Emerson want? Apparently to keep NBC from rebroadcasting the pilot, along with that scene.
From Zap2It:
Emerson’s suit claims the scene “casts the disposer in an unsavory light, irreparably tarnishing the product” by suggesting that serious injuries will result “in the event consumers were to accidentally insert their hand into one.”
The suit, however, is more about NBC’s use of the In-Sink-Erator name than the content of the scene, the company says. “It’s a trademark thing,” spokesman Dan Callahan tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
NBC hasn’t commented on the suit.
This would be silly if it wasn’t so, well, stupid.
