Discussion Thread: Heroes Season 3 Episode 9 (3.09) It’s Coming

Written by Sam | November 17th, 2008 | 116 Comments |

What happens when Nathan finds out that dear old Dad is very much alive, as Peter had told him in a previous episode? Especially in light of what happened to Nathan vis-a-vis Linderman and wife Heidi? Has Hiro’s trip back into the past taught him anything, or will Arthur silence him before he can act? Plus, Sylar and Elle meet once again, and sparks are sure to fly. Quite literally, as Elle still can’t quite control her powers. This is your official discussion thread for Heroes Season 3, Episode 9, “It’s Coming”, our prelude to the third season’s 2-parter, “The Eclipse”, coming in two weeks…

HEROES FALL AS ARTHUR PETRELLI (GUEST STAR ROBERT FORSTER) DECLARES WAR ON WIFE ANGELA (CRISTINE ROSE), SON PETER (MILO VENTIMIGLIA) AND ALL THAT STAND WITH THEM

After a preemptive strike against Hiro (Masi Oka) and Ando (James Kyson Lee) in Africa, Arthur Petrelli (guest star Robert Forster) orders Knox (guest star Jamie Hector) and Flint (Blake Shields) to hunt down his son Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) and granddaughter Claire. Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) is stunned to learn his father is alive — and leading a villainous charge to worldwide destruction. Meanwhile, back at Pinehearst, Sylar (Zachary Quinto) has a charged confrontation with Elle (guest star Kristen Bell). Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) begins testing his new, combined superpower formula. Later, with the others dead, injured or on the run, Matt (Greg Grunberg) attempts to wake Angela (Cristine Rose).

Robert Forster, Brea Grant and Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine guest star.

I agree, Adam’s father.

Man, thsi episode is going to be one the best of the series, in my oppinion. I think that episode eight will be the turning point of the series. From here on in, my hope is that the ratings will go back up, plus things are jsut getting so exciting! Although the show has always been incredible, it’s just never taken this much critical abuse before.

I really do not want Tracy joining the villains. I think she and Nathan would make a great couple. Too bad. That picture seems to set her future in stone. Nathan should make her come to her senses. If she is scared of her own abilities, why the hell would she join Arthur? Doesn’t make any sense. Please be another mole.

I have a feeling this episode will be awesome. I don’t know why. I just do. Villains was amazing! It can only get better from here on out. I can’t wait for this Eclipse to get under way. I love the still photos for the upcoming episodes. The new setting is a breath of fresh air. I’m so excited for these next few episodes. Anybody else think this is the best season thus far for Heroes? Love it. :)

Hiro doesn’t lose his powers arthur takes his memory away if you read the seaso previews for the eclipse p2. it gives it away that ando and someone else are trying to help him get his memory back, because he already has hiros ability from peter so I am thinkng arthur cant take powers he already has.

Just 30 more minutes! The anticipation is killing me. UGH! :D

Hey, I think I just figured something out. Remember in the last episode how Gabriel already had the map and locations of all the potentials on his wall. That would place the events between Papa Suresh and Brian Davis’ murders and going rogue trying to find Molly Walker’s father. That would mean Elle and Sylar’s meeting took place just before HRG infiltrated Chandra’s place in India. So would it be safe to say The Company were only able to discover who Chandra was through Sylar when observing him. I don’t know where I’m going with this yet, but just nice to know.

One more thing. Anybody notice how Sylar likes to test the abilities he attains shortly after acquiring them? Perhaps, Molly’s father is the one we’ve been looking for. The one that gave Sylar his ability to freeze objects. Now, of course, this is nothing official and I could be completely wrong, but it makes sense doesn’t it?

Oh, who knows. I just need to do something with all this excitement while I’m waiting for the episode. Can’t wait!

Holy s–t that was cool with elle blasting sylar like that. And sylar being able to possibly take powers like peter can, that would make me think that all three of them have the same power.

xerox on November 17, 2008 Subscribed to comments via email | Reply

WHHHHHAAAAAA!!!!!

So the hunger is about gaining power, and sylar has the exact same power as peter… So when Pete went to the future, and took sylar’s ability…(his own?) how did he get the hunger? Why did he try cutting open nathans head in the future??? why Cut his mom’s??? I wish they would explain it!

sean kc on November 18, 2008 | Reply

when he takes sylars power which is actually being able to understand the powers the hunger comes with it because sylar understands the full potential of the powers and wants to become the most powerful which means taking the power. he didn’t understand that he also had empathic mimicry which meant that his first victim with the telekenisis, if you remember sylar bashed him on the head and cut his head open. it isn’t actually sylars power to cut their heads open that is just another way of using telekenisis. so when peter obtains the understanding the hunger comes with it not actually cutting peoples heads off.
Also Peter, Sylar and Arthurs powers are all slightly different, i mean sylar can understand the power straight away but has to learn how it is that he actually takes the power without cutting their heads off (unless he studies the brain lol), Arthur has to touch the victim to take the power but learns automatically how to use it and Peter can obtain them from further away but has to practice until he learns how to use the power. They all have differences to their powers but potentially all have the mimicry part of the ability.

So Arthur is sorta like Freddy Krueger? he can haunt your dreams and chill you? interesting

also by looking at TEAM ARTHUR - Sylar, Flint, Knox, Tracy, Elle, Arthur and looking at TEAM ANGELA - Peter, Nathan, Claire, Matt, Daphne
Arthur’s team clearly has the advatnage seeing how their powers can hurt everyone

Also, next weeks episode looks terrible… what is Heroes without Heroes with powers?

z0mbiesp0ut on November 17, 2008 | Reply

Ermm however in the next few episodes we will find out that nathan and matt go to haiti to find the hatian and fight his brother, if the hatian joins forces with Team Angela all of Team Arthur’s powers will be rendered useless thus allowing H.R.G to taser them all.

cncgamefan on November 18, 2008 | Reply

I think Tracy is immune to the Haitian’s AOE power, since she wasn’t born with it.

(Comments wont nest below this level)
Pavan on November 18, 2008 | Reply

Yeah i think so too…, haitians power cannot suppers other heroes powers if they are genitically induced. as when in season 1 HRG and the Haitian tried to kidnap Nathan he flew, though the Haitian was present there….hmmmm

I know, it’s probably gonna be all emotional and crap. Looks like Sylar has a hissy fit about it too. I guess it will be the second time his powers get ripped. I guess Peter will be less bummed out about having now powers when everybody has to join him.

Rightprice on November 17, 2008 | Reply

Xerox, in a way both of there original powers were based around understanding things. Sylar understod things in a very technical, and mechanical way. Peter understood things emotionally, empathically. We could see this in the jobs they had, peter being a nurse and sylar being a watch maker. Sylar learned to understand things using his brain and peter learned to understand people with his heart.

When peter went to sylar in the future to learn how to use sylars power what he was really learning was how to think like sylar. And what arthur was doing by putting sylar in that room with elle was forcing him to think like peter.

Think Fast on November 17, 2008 | Reply

that is probably why he did not just pick up the power with a good understanding of it like he usually does and instead has to learn how to properly use it like Peter usually has to.

Things are certainly getting interesting. I suspect they may kill Tracy at some point and make way for the final Larter-complex character (Barbara). They might kill Meredith and Flint and/or Knox too at some point soon.

Thank you Rightprice. I never thought of it like that… I suppose the emotionally cold technical thinking is where the hunger for power really takes hold.

This is what is great about the discussion thread. Great minds helping me out..

Oh and Hawdcoor, and those who think heroes with out powers are no heroes, well. Peter proved that having no power isn’t a major problem… HRG has been doing that all the time… It is the power of critical thinking. Perhaps having no power will give peter an advantage of thinking things through, instead of being lazy and relying on powers to always save him.

Now for next week… I wonder how they will get all the powers back.

And I hope that the federal government has a clue about people with powers… Perhaps like a S.H.E.I.L.D. from the marvel universe. maybe that will be next season.

unbreakable on November 17, 2008 | Reply

I love this show, however, I am becoming a little disappointed in the way it is going. I am hoping that this entire season is just a “flashforward” that one of the characters is having because TOO many people are dying or losing and it just doesn’t seem like the way the story originally started. I hope that Sylar changes from the V side and that Peter’s powers are restored because his are natural and not synthetic. This season better get good soon or I am going to be disappointed :)

Gabriel doesn’t know how to prevent the hunger, just simply how ot satisfie it without killing. He still has the hunger to know more, just now he doesn’t have to kill to gain new powers

I was wondering how the “Hiro thinks he’s 10″ would pan out and so far it’s amusing without being ridiculous. It makes sense. Looks like Arthur was Haitian-ing Hiro. I was very pleased with this episode and loved Peter fighting back without powers. The Sylar & Elle scene was nice too.

smitastrophe on November 18, 2008 | Reply

“Hiro!! What are you thinking about??”
“Waffles”

Gold! I was a little worried about it being silly, and it is but not over the top. I am a little dissapointed with Sylar’s new found ability. DOes that mean he has to relate to people on an emotional level and have a cry before he can take their powers? I guess now that I think about it its not that bad, I wish that Gabriel and Elle would leave Pinehearst now and join Angela’s team. But I dont think that will happen since Angela gave Elle the boot, and if Elle doesn’t want to go back, I don’t think Gabriel will… Oh the power of a woman!!!!!

All in all this was the best episode by far of the season. Hands down, flat out the best!

i feel theres gonna be a girl fight between tracy and meredith. ice v.s fire. and you know how int he alt.fut.season 1 people with powers are growing so kring still has to go with that same concept because i think ando will get his power during this eclipse and peter will get time/space power and give a formula which will give him the body snatcher ability. o yeah there is cont.error. issac never made that comic because his last was hiro in the future.

smitastrophe on November 18, 2008 | Reply

Thats a good point sylarpetrelli, I was wondering how Ando will get that power. I think that the eclipse will give Peter his mimicry power back, cause they seem to be moving away from the formula and focusing on the eclipse. But who knows? THe eclipse will come take away everybodies power, and then maybe the formula will give back to original power or a different power all together??

pops on November 18, 2008 | Reply

in the promo is clearly says the eclipse this time will take away their abilities so how is it that Peter will regain his? is your logic that if you do not currently have an ability than you will gain one during the eclipse and if you do currently have one you will lose it? if so there are some holes within it. one being that Hiro has already encountered two eclipses. one while at work in Japan and the other in 1671 when he met Adam Manrow/Kensei. Obvisouly Peter will regain his abilities, but i think it will have more to do with Sylar and how he is able to transfers an ability from pone vassel to another.

I loved this weeks episode!! Can’t wait t c sylar and elle in the nxt one thou they are brilliant together. Hope they keep elle in it an don’t get rid of her cos she’s a much more interesting character than they’d let her be in season 2.
If kato hid the calalyst in Claire does that mean her powers were given to her and not naturally inherited or did he make her the catalyst because she cud take it without dying???
I thought hiro was a gud bit of comic relief from all the seriousness

I liked this one, much better than the last episode. Sylar and Elle was easily foreseen. Without any spoilers in my mind, I have to wonder why they’re all so afraid of the eclipse. My guess is that It will do something like take away everyone’s abilities. That’s why the formula is so important. Just a guess.

311 on November 18, 2008 | Reply

Just wanted to add I still think Tracy is stupid. She wants Nathan to work with his dad why? So that she will be spared? She would be the wife of Nathan anyway. Guess her feelings for him are false, figures. Also, I just don’t find her intimidating.

Peter needs his powers back quick, I liked the part where he stood up to Knox and Flint in the sewer. I can’t wait to finally see Knox get beat down by somebody, he is overpowered.

4.5 rating on the episode, was very interesting.

Daphne is just not believable to me anymore, about her feelings for Matt. No matter what she still sounds like she’s lying. Either bad acting or ruined by her deception, can’t tell. Plus you never see them kiss, what couple loves each other but doesn’t kiss? Fail.
