We’ve been told for a while now that it was coming, and that it would lead to Heroes Season 3’s mega two-parter episode — “The Eclipse”. Part one begins tomorrow night, with the heroes and villains seemingly having chosen their respective sides (or did they?) for the upcoming battle, as the impending eclipse dawns on the planet to strip the heroes of their powers. The Petrelli boys find themselves in Haiti in search of the only man who can stop the nearly unstoppable Arthur, and we learn if Claire is, indeed, the catalyst that everyone has been searching for. She’s special, but just how special? Here is your open discussion thread for “The Eclipse: Part One”.
A POWERFUL ECLIPSE CASTS A SHADOW OVER ALL OF THE HEROES THAT IMPACTS THEIR ABILITIES
After reuniting Sylar (Zachary Quinto) and Elle (guest star Kristen Bell), Arthur (guest star Robert Forster) orders them to find Claire (Hayden Panettiere) and bring her to him. Matt (Greg Grunberg), Hiro (Masi Oka) and Ando (James Kyson Lee) team up together and follow Daphne (guest star Brea Grant) to her hometown of Athens, Georgia to discover what she’s been hiding. Meanwhile, Nathan and Peter Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar and Milo Ventimiglia) travel together to Haiti in search of the the only man that can stop their father from destroying the world, the Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis).

HA! U must be fooling yourself, the villains are totally gonna win this war no doubt about it. Heroes is finished for good the show will now be called Villains!! The eclipse will be kill the heroes for good.

yeah! it would be nice if “Heroes” would finish, and an new show, called “Villains” would be based on the same universe, same main actors/chars but different show title, and start over as season 1 again.

i disagree with xericho. heroes sounds better than villains. even the idea isnt original. its probably copied from episode villains. isnt it? did you heard about theory of papa Petrelli power? ‘It begins with reading minds, and then becomes so much more’ maybe it ends with power absorbtion. ep. villains (again) first he had only mind reading ability, ad it went to putting a thought. after many years it become what it is now. agree or not?
yah that makes sense about the mind reading ability because back in season 2 Maury said that \”it becomes so much more\”
Well, I hope these 2 episodes go well. I’m about ready to give up on the show. I say this because I’ve recorded and rewatched each episode from this season at least twice now and most of what has happened really doesn’t seem to fit together. I know that Peter came back in time to stop this horrible future where the formula got out, but I’m not sure how Peter’s time traveling trip managed to cause the current time line (as alluded to by Peter’s mom). Most of what has happened so far this season seems almost random. One episode, Peter is here from the future trying to save the his future, the next episode Sylar, Noah, Claire are capturing level 5 escapees, and the next episode Hiro is trying to infiltrate a criminal organization. If they can make all this make sense somehow then I’m willing to continue watching.
Side Note: I’m kinda annoyed at the episode where Hiro goes on his spirit journey. I was expecting to be filled in on the hidden events that lead up to the present time, but it only caught us up to the beginning of the 1st season.

Weak argument. I hate when people say to stop watching a show because a person has minor problems with the show. do you think they never thought to stop watching. Duh!
Heroes is awesome, I’ve been watching the whole series over again, and finished it in like two weeks. I can’t WAIT to see what is gonna happen tonight. 2 more hours!!!WooHoo!!!!
First off I don’t understand how people can not like this season. If you dont like it you are too simple, have no imagination, and arent intelligent enough for the show. I dont think any episode has been bad. I loved #s 2, 3, 5, and 6. I thought the worst were #1(probably because I read all the spoilers), #4(the one where Peter went to the future) and then last week’s (#9) didnt have much to it. But none of them were boring or bad. I love where they went with this season. They focused on the best characters (Sylar, Petrellis, HRG, etc.)and got rid of the boring ones like Maya, Niki Sanders (i hated that storyline), West, and Micah’s cousin. They also realeased all the level 5 villians which created many new characters and brought in Arthur which was what i’ve been hoping they’d do. Season 2 you could complain about with the New Orleans story garbage, Peter was off in Ireland, and Hiro in Old Japan was the only part in this show i’ll fast forward. All that stuff was insignificant but this season all the characters are involved in the overall story. The only thing I miss is the company and hope it doesnt end.
plus Daphne is a cool new character, they gave us some Linderman, we got some real deaths which this show needs (they were the right people to die too -Adam, Maury, Niki, new characters) and its awesome where they are going with Sylar. Some stuff i don’t like is Mohinder now (i used to like him but now if they have to kill a main character i’d pick him as long as he still narrates) and Hiro always manages to have parts they are too corny. Now they gotta bring back Claude and show us the other 4 company founders. I’d give the season an A-.
Although we disagree on many things I completely agree here.

Here’s what i call will happen.
Nothing major this episode. But episode 12 titled “Our Father” Peter will shoot his dad with the haitian with him. Peter will not get his powers back from his dad or from the eclipse. He will learn what Sylar learned last week and gets powers one by one again. That is the whole reason he went to the future and got Sylars ability.
We all know Elle shoots Claire. She dies and HRG goes on the rampage after Elle, Sylar and all of them. She comes back to life after the eclipse and thinks she owes it all to grandpa Arthur who messes her views up with what he tells her. And the shocker is she ends up killing her dad (HRG) to stop him from doing something she thinks she cant let him do so we lose one of the best characters but hopefully not forever. It is real poetic that his whole life was all about protecting her and then she kills him. She “turns to the dark side” after finding out she was wrong.
interesting, But from what ive been told HRG is in season 4 so Claire couldnt kill him in 3,
here is what i see happening.. HRG shoots Syler and Syler and Claire are both shown dieing only to come back at the end of the Eclipse..
Aurthur goies to the hospital where Claire is and takes a blood sample the hospital took and now has the key to the formula causing claire to have to travel to the past to stop Aurthur..
Now the Hatians brothers power, the inpentratable skin, thats a power that peter needs to get when he gets his mimiking power back. He would be like superman in terms of damage resistance.
why is daphne’s legs broken originally…so without her power, she can’t even walk straight…weird.
Shes like Forrest Gump.
It is more likely that the leg braces are from muscular dystrophy or something, which means they are not strong enough to support her without her powers (maybe because everything she does is so easy when she does have her powers?)
Wow, Sylar Petrelli, way to try to look like you call things! I like how you say “Here is what I call will happen” when everything you said has already been verified through spoilers. You don’t call anything.
After Parkman lost his power during the eclipse, he understood something Hiro said in Japanese (that he should go in and save Daphne), so can he still read minds? And if he can, maybe he is the catalyst rather than Claire?
Nah he can’t. He just took a guess on what Hiro said.

I have no problem with the eclipse taking away everyone’s powers! Yes it may just be a plot pusher, but it works. The only problem! Is when Nathan and Peter are talkin after the crash landing… Peter and nathan talk as if nathan got his flight ability when the eclipse happened in episode one. But if you look back, Nathan had his power when he was in the car accident! that was before the eclipse according to season one… Seriously it is like the writers don’t understand that we pay attention to the details. It is almost insulting for them to just ignore the hardcore fans…
These are thngs that piss off most of us. And fine, tell me to stop watching, tell me to stop bitching, it doesn’t change the fact the writing did get sloppy.
I still love this show, I just think it could be better. I think the epsiodes we have seen lately are still the left over problems from the strike, or lack of Tim Krings attention. I do think it will get better, and more clear.

So??? Guessing the powers comback when the eclipse is over since it didn’t finish during the show, and wondering if HRG takes the shot… That would be crazy!
When they are in the hospital, look in the reflection with peter in window, the eclipse is present.
I noticed it when they shot season three’s flash back, or spirtit walk. but I don’t remember them having the eclipse when Season one came out. I’ll watch my DVD’s. Pretty sure Season one had a lot of powers before the eclipse. Which would be understandable. When they wrote season one, they didn’t have a version of this season three in mind.
I want HRG to get powers…
OK, I’m lost about a couple of things…
#1. Who is publishing the comic book? In season 1, I thought it was Isaac Mendez, but he’s dead now. #2. The original group of super-powered people who formed “the organization” had their powers before the eclipse - the organization has been pairing “one of us” and “one of them” since its founding - the first eclipse didn’t give them their powers and didn’t take away their powers or they would have known what to expect this time. I’m totally confused by this.
The comic books were made by Isaac, in season 1 he gave to a guy all that he had done so that he keep on publishing it.
And about the powers before the eclipse… I dont know, but maybe there were other eclipses before the one we know about, and those gave powers to Arthur, Angela, Linderman and the rest. But we also have Adam 400 years ago with powers; and we Claire survived a fire when she was a baby, so she had powers. Anyway, Claire doesn´t count since she is Special
Maybe there was a previous eclipse in which they al got thir powers, or the catalyse megates the need for an eclipse.

The shows writers have never actually watched Season 1 of this show. All of season 3 has been full of things said, and done, that didn’t, and couldn’t have happened during season 1. Go back to season 1 and watch the episode called “6 Months Earlier” in which Nathan flies out of a car wreck, Sylar kills and takes his first power, and all sorts of other powers being used. What the heck man, in the first episode Sylar had already killed and taken 3 or 4 powers… remember Molly? Claire had jumped and broke arms, jumped in front of cars, all kinds of things, before Season 1 Episode 1.
I just.. i don’t get it… this show needs to end. Everyone needs to be fired, and this season needs to be burned.

Okay Hobo, let’s look at the powers being injected… Right now they can’t do it, because the catalyst is hidden is claire. So when they had it back in nathan and sander’s day, they still need the eclipse.
you have a stupid argument. I am guessing you are saying because Nathan had his powers injected that he didn’t need the eclipse for them to manifest. But if you use those things sticking out on the side of that thing you call a face. then you could have heard Peter and Nathan talking about the eclipse happening when nathan got his powers.
Also, anyone notice a the begining of the episode, during the recap, they added in a conversation between arthur and mohinder talking about the eclipse being a global event when most people got thier powers. It seems to me that the writters and producers are trying to fix this so that the average viewer can follow along. Now If they could only give the hard-core fans a little attention…
Like I said before, I love the show, but it does need help. It grew too fast, without a common direction. From the online content, to the huge list of characters. The story has gotten so big that it is bound to have contradictions. I can accept that. Just wish I didn’t have to.

Mendez had already written a full books worth of forward issues to the comic. The delivery guy doesn’t need to be a precog, he just needs to be a delivery guy.
I like this show a lot too but, it really is making no sense putting everything together. I hope they explain something or this show will FAIL!!!!!
I’m worried about /all/ our Heroes, though I am forced to especially worry about those who aren’t currently onscreen.

You know what I don’t get? Apparentely, Daphne losing her powers resulted on her leg problem thing. But in previous episodes, when she met the Hatian in the movies to steal the formula, her powers also went away but nothing happened with her legs, she only got slow. What’s up with that?

Good poin, but I think that she just responded differently. That time the Haitian blovked the powers and this time it is the eclipse. This could happen when only an eclipse is present. Also, she said it happened again to her dad. This could mean it happens only sometimes and not just when her powers are gone.But who knows the real answer.
perhaps she was healed by lindermen, and given powers at the same time… Not sure how her healing would regress but, at least nathan’s healing didn’t regress.
I just thought of another thing.. Adam couldn’t have died by loosing his powers. Old age wouldn have caught up with him… If it did, then so should have all the wounds he had healed from… I think arthur must have done something else to him. or else he would just be powerless and age normal from then on.
Maybe the answer to the comic book issue is that isaac wasnt publishing the comic books as he wrote them i.e. he wrote them more or less in one go, and then the chinese guy has been publishing them over time.
I’m not so sure that Claire is even the catalyst. For all we know it could be Nathan. I mean after he got shot, we thought Linderman had healed him but that was just Maury’s illusion. He also survived getting blown up. (Of course Adam’s blood healed him, but he was still alive from the explosion)
Those people at the comic book store in Laurence, Kansas will probably try to give Hiro his memories back by showing him past issues of 9th wonder.
Maybe the eclipse will give Peter his powers back. Either way, he has to save Nathan.
I’m not sure whether or not the eclipse takes away their powers permanently or temporarily though, and I don’t know what’s going on with Sylar. Any ideas?
Dudeman- Future peter healed Nathan after shooting him… But I don’t think nathan is anything special. It seems that claire is the catalyst, even angela petrelli thinks so.
Seth Green does give Hiro the old 9th wonders to regain memory. Or at least most of it. It should be interesting to see Hiro’s reaction to finding out he is the true kensei.

also in season 1 nathan flew away from bennett and the Haitian. if the Haitian was there he shouldn’t have been able 2 fly, but you could be right. maybe the haitian let him fly away. I’m not sure
I’m starting to think maybe Nathan IS the catalyst… honestly, it makes a lot of sense, although Kaito doesn’t really know who Nathan is… he KNOWS him, but probably doesn’t know him enough to put the catalyst in him, more likely to be Claire…
But why would Arthur want his son back? Lock him up? To keep him safe? So the catalyst won’t die with him? Maybe Arthur thinks Nathan might be the catalyst… who knows :S
i am still confused, how the hell did nathen survive from the shot wounds in ythe premiere. And also when daphne was in the movies, the haitien was there so wouldn’t she just collapse. the catalyst has to be claire because IT IS, idiots.her power had already manifested when she was a baby, HELLO.
and also where the hell is meredith, wasn’t she supposded to be partners with noah or at least protecting claire. sylar kissed elle like an animal.
i cannot put it in any simpler words, this volume absolutley makkes no sense and has a bunch of contiunity errors.

claire’s ability did save her life when she was a baby. BUT claire did not have her ability when she was in elementary school or anything. she officially got it when she was in high school. thats y she was shocked from when she healed after being pushed into the glass by jackie. her being a second generation “hero” might have had something 2 do with getting her ability when she was young 2. that might be y micah got his ability when he was young. (where did he go?) 2nd generation heroes could b born with an ability. molly was 2nd generation also and got her ability young. if sylar said that he noticed something different about claire, it doesn’t make her the catalyst but maybe there IS more to claire’s ability (not necessarily a catalyst)

Forgive my first (and probably only) time post but I guess this is the best place to air my concerns about this show. I’ve been an avid watcher and fan of “Heroes” from day one and Season 1 is probably the best season of any TV fantasy I’ve seen since Season 3 of “Babylon 5″ back in the 1990s.
“Babylon 5″ was a show where you came to care a lot about the characters: Sheridan and Delenn’s cautious friendship evolving into love; Londo & G’Kar’s eventual friendship in spite of all that had
happened between them; Ivanova as the fierce, beating heart of the series - and that the resolution of the Shadow/Vorlon conflict was through reason and not just an all-lasers-blazing battle.
Straczynski’s writing was excellent and consistent: actions had repercussions that were life-long or life-changing. Continuity was maintained almost religiously. “Heroes”, for me, is a show where I care equally much about the characters and where they are headed - it’s just a pity that the people who are writing this show now seem not to give a damn about characterisation or continuity. They really
do seem to be making it up as they go along.
So many good characters with so much potential to go places - to take just a few examples: Hiro - his character could (and maybe should, in the hands of a better writer) have a whole show to himself - he could be the long-needed modern take on “Doctor Who” that TV fantasy has been missing for at least two decades. Peter - while much derided at the moment - who among us doesn’t seriously want him to fulfill the potential that Charles Deveaux and his own mother foresaw for him - as “the most powerful of us all”?
And Sylar/Gabriel - the best actor in this show and his turn to the (slightly more) Good side (for however long) continues to be fasincating. However, many of us watching will still be wishing - deep
down - to see the confrontation between Peter and Sylar that the end of Season 1 only really hinted at.
Mr. Kring, if you are reading this - if you even care or have any shred of pretension to serving the characters - please change course. I’m not asking for Season 1 all over again - just for what follows
to make sense. For what follows to be something I can enjoy without the “what are you doing to these characters???” feelings I have had since half-way through Season 2. For what follows to be something I can’t wait to see each Wednesday on BBC2 here in the UK - not something I now watch with increasing trepidation. Many thanks for allowing me to comment.
HRG isnt going anywhere because he has already been confirmed for the fourth volume. Does anyone know when peter will get his powers back? I lkie him without powers. When he started to get to many of them it became no fun and he was arrogant and stupid. He actually uses his brain now like with that gas pipe stunt with flint. And why does hiro go time traveling with claire
Remember when Noah tried to kill sylar with the black hole guy.. he was whispering to him and sylar acted like he was trying to hear something from distance? He killed that female garagiste that could hear rain drops from miles…
In the car he just guessed noah tried to kill him, instead of perfectly knowing what noah said to the black hole guy.
FAIL here I believe.. like nathan flying with the haitian. But its ok since it’s kinda hard to not miss any details. Love the show anyway. it only has few mistakes in it.
In the case of super-hearing, Sylar lost that power in season two when he contracted the Shanti Virus. If I remember correctly, he had a sort of ‘power reset’ like Peter is having now and he restarted with only telekinesis.
the cure for the shanti virus gives the person his/her ability back so, theoretically, sylar still had his super hearing at that time. (I think) BUT mayb the eclipse gives them their original ability back when its over so peter, arthur, and sylar might have a power restart (if the eclipse gives peter his ability back)and that could b interesting.
Does anyone think about the fact that the eclipse happens all over the world, when really an eclipse can only happen in a very small portion of the planet? Also, a full solar eclipse only lasts 450 seconds!

oh and i think there were other eclipses that caused the original founders to get the powers. even adam monroe only got his healing abilities after the eclipse hiro sees when he crash lands in ancient japan.
