Claire’s New Boyfriend (aka Nick D’Agosto) Speaks

By Sam | June 18, 2007 (9:19 pm)

It has been barely a day since Nick D’Agosto was announced as a new cast addition to Heroes, where he’ll play Claire’s boyfriend, a superpowered teen name West. In an interview with TV Guide, D’Agosto claims not to know what West’s superpower is, and seems to not know a whole lot about the show, or even what network it’s on. When asked if he had seen the show before, Nick replied: “I’d watched it before, but I hadn’t watched it a lot. I just moved and I haven’t gotten cable television yet.” Um, Nick, Heroes is on NBC — which is FREE TV.

More from the interview:

TVGuide.com: Were you nervous when you auditioned, knowing that Heroes is one of the more popular shows on TV?
Nick D’Agosto: I guess there’s a little bit of that. I don’t want to portray it like I’m different from every other actor and I don’t feel nerves when I walk in the room, but at the same time, I felt confident that I knew who this guy was and I knew what I needed to do. So I didn’t let the fact that I was auditioning for a high-profile show consume me.

TVGuide.com: Were you already a fan of the show?
D’Agosto: I’d watched it before, but I hadn’t watched it a lot. I just moved and I haven’t gotten cable television yet. But I watched it a couple of times, and I love the concept. It’s also extremely exciting that I get to have a superpower.

TVGuide.com: Reports say your character will have a “very cool” superpower.
D’Agosto: [Laughs] Well, I honestly don’t know what that is yet. I only have the few [audition] scenes I was given, about four pages. From what I can tell, you know this kid is confident and mysterious. He’s seems to be very comfortable in his own skin. The scenes seem to revolve around a blossoming of [Hayden’s] character in certain ways. I think West will be a facilitator of that. But that’s mostly speculation from the little information that I’ve been given.

To be honest with you, I’m not entirely enthusiastic about this new addition. Granted, Hayden Panettiere brings the teen crowd to the show, but her character, in my opinion, doesn’t need anymore teen drama. Now they’re giving her a boyfriend and, from what we’ve heard, putting her back in high school, where they’ll introduce a slew of new high school characters.

I just hope Tim Kring knows what he’s doing, and that Heroes doesn’t end up like a CW teen show. Heroes should be sophisticated and mature, not wallow in teen angst.

But hey, maybe that’s just me…

This guy looks like an idiot, Claire doesn’t need a boyfriend on the show. If this guy is half as bad as her future boyfriend I’m gonna need to dong kick everyone who makes the show.
